Description
This is a song for the Ladies. Its about the way we interact. I don't mean to read anyones mail, its just I have been surrounded by women all my life (sisters and daughters, even the cat's a girl). Its also one of my personal favorites. I even had some fun on this one playing slide guitar. I wrote the keyboard parts in Midi on this one as they were a bit to technical for me to play. MIDI Drums and Keyboard for Bass.

Lyrics
Sweet Step
(c) 2008 Stephen M. Schedra

There's a song we sing between a lie and the truth
And I don't know if I can even stay in tune
There's a dance we step between the living and the dead
And I can't even find my own left shoe
And I don't know the reasons why
You turn to hide then then let me see you
Reasons why you even dance at all

Sweet Step don't hide
Sweet Step don't hide
Don't you hide

There's a girl who's waltzing on the inside of her heart
She doesn't even know she's dancing in the rain
Waiting in the sun there is a warming that can start
To melt away the disappointment and the pain
Still she circles locked away
To music she can never play
If she would only answer to the call

Sweet Step don't hide
Sweet Step don't hide
Don't you hide

Somewhere in the dance we find no solace in the truth
We realize that we are dancing all alone
Those who knew the step have fled with youth and they are gone
And we can't even try to make a heart our home
Still we go on dancing by
Fleet of step, but fear to fly
And somehow never answer to the call

Sweet Step don't hide
Sweet Step don't hide
Don't you hide

Brilliant!!!!

Oh my God !!!!!!

This is the most romantic song that I have heard on the internet,
see I told you that you was the 'Angel Of The internet' lol
This Song is So very sentimental and extremely beautifully ,emotionally charged with electricity melting my heart and soul. Your voice sent shivers down my spine it sounded so sexy too
therefore its done the job my friend.

Well done' Excellent' stuff.

Peace
Dee.

Interesting 12 string sounds
maybe a 6 string but it has that early Yardbirds folk rock sounds.

Nice singing as well. Nice use of the tapping of the percussion. The instruments seem to really fit in and the music seems to really gather as this tune moves nicely along. Love the low sounds of the guitar when you it those low chords, brings out a nice flavorl Terrific almost Hawaiian slide lead. That sounds terrific and very festive indeed.

This was refreshing to hear and love how it really gathers steam!
Both vocally and and hand instrumentation.

Way to go. Your voice sounds nice!

Really nice
Rich a sweet. Very nice effort. The lyrics are very strong, along with the background instrumentation.
Very, very good job, Stephen.

Each post gets better
it seems to me. This is a great song. Lyrically, it's evocative and filled with perceptive and thoughtful ideas and images. Musically, it's well-performed and arranged. I love the guitar work on this - nice sound and nicely played. Your voice sounds great on this (are you using an effect on the vocal still, though?) and you sing with great expressiveness. Very impressive. I always look forward to your posts, and I'm never disappointed. Nice work, my friend. Peace.

I got great visuals from this
The lyrics are compelling immediately. They seem self referential/self effacing when they say "don't know if I can even stay in tune."

The first time I listened to it, I thought of a clumsy out-of-place cowboy singing to a line dancing audience inside the cage at at Bob's Country Bunker. It seemed he was more sensitive than his audience and trying to figure out how to find his grace.

The choral backing could come out more-- with the vocal timidity (which is great) it might be a nice contrast to give way to the backing singers in the changes. I'd like to hear that last chorus isolate on the lead, then on the chorus, then end the song on that instead of fade out.

Yup
I keep toying with a remix or a redo. I just get so lazy . . . I think I can't decide wether to do this as a ballad or . . .

woah
This is great!
Great playing and song crafting. However it's your singing that really makes this... The vocal melody is brilliant, you've got some super cathcy stuff going on there.
sweet!

This is my favorite
I love this song even though it is not my favorite to sing. I write stuff that should be performed by other people. Really, that's not false modesty, just that I am much more comfortable belting out the Rock and Roll or heavy Rock stuff and this is really meant for someone who can sweet talk you with their singing. If you were to ask me to sing this at the campfire with my acoustic I would be more comfortable doing John Barleycorn or something.
