Description:
A simple sketchpad for a song Idea I've had for a while now but I wanted to get it written and structured before I move everything to another computer. Nothing fancy here just a simple pad and vocals.

Lyrics:
There's no better day than today, to look at all of my mistakes
Deep down in my heart I'm so ashamed, and I'm gonna have to take the blame
But if I could find a way to go back in time, I'd try to find a way not to be so blind
And if God gave me the power for a day or two
I think I know exactly what I would do

I'd clean up all the poison I've spilled
Breathe life back into all the things I've killed
I'd put the blue back in the ocean and sky again
Make the air where kids could play outside again
Now you may think there's just no way
But I'm gonna start to try
And there's no better day than today

There's no better time than right now, I've got to make a change somehow
There's not better reason to try, when I look into my children's eyes

Love your voice Droop and this song and your treatment of it are just wonderful. I love the pad, the synth and everything about this, especially the harmonies Love it, love it, love it, so refreshing and of course that's what the lyrics are saying, regards M

Hey M &mdash 02/11/08 - 07:37:33 AM
Thanks I always value your opinion on my stuff.
I figure the only way to work on my vocals is to write something
and go at it. Ha yeah refreshing would be another way of putting it.

thanks again M

Thanks

Oh this is so lovely the lyrics are really good but so very
sad and I really love your voice.
I love it just the way it is. But as you are aware I am no expert.
Your lyrics fit with your vocals just the right mood.
It nearly made me cry. I agree with with everything Moviz said
I also Love It. thanks again.

I'm certainly glad you liked it......I worked pretty hard on it, even though
there's not much to it. Hey, I'm no expert either but I value your opinion
of the song as much or more than any expert.

thanks again

wow &mdash 02/10/08 - 04:18:12 PM
this is really something. The harmony is indeed done with a terrific touch. But actually this whole tune is real music to my ears from the words to the beats to the melody.

Impressed!

Thanks for sharing this pop gem!

Well Tiler &mdash 02/11/08 - 08:22:20 AM
I'm well aware of your talent and it means a lot that you like it.
I just started back singing and writing recently and it's been
a long time since I have tried. It means I have to work harder
at it......its not exactly like riding a bicycle. I'm pretty new here
and I like to take each person's music that I like and give it a serious
listen rather that just jump to a lot of different ones. So, I'm gonna be
at your doorstep shortly.

thanks tiler

ooooh &mdash 02/10/08 - 08:30:59 PM
excellent sketch idea (rolls eyes... wish my final songs sounded this good!) Crisp mix, gorgeous singing and harmonies... and a great message and fun mix between light-pop style music and 80's synthy music. Catchy, even with the rather unexpected chord changes in there. So, that means this is going to get even better? Cool!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Now don't be &mdash 02/11/08 - 08:58:52 AM
rollin those dragon eyes....yes I said sketch. Actually Eduard I do a lot of my
stuff in that manner. I feel it helps me to concentrate on the song itself
which is always the most important factor for me. I can sort of stand back
and look at the songs structure and overall strength, without getting distracted
by production. Yeah I know....you thought I didn't know any fancy chords and you are right, I have no idea what they are. It was hard though to make myself sing some of the BG notes going into the chords.

glad you approve drak and thanks

I like this as it is &mdash 02/10/08 - 08:46:43 PM
I find the simplicity of this arrangement, whether intended or not, a great piece of its appeal. The lyrical content is very effectively contrasted with the track.

The vocals are just spectacular.

I'm very pleased I ran into your music today. You are a very talented musician. I'm glad you found this site.

Hey Patrick &mdash 02/11/08 - 10:12:07 AM
you may very well be right. Although I know how I am.....I'll probably
get some new sound or something one day and think...I've got to try and put
a track around that thing. I won't be doing anything to it for a while cause I'm
suppose to get a new computer today and I have to move everything over.
Just hope there's not any huge nightmares with third party plugs ya know.
I'm gonna start recording everything at 96 rather than 48. There are still some things about digital on the top end that really bother me. I also think its worse
in logic than protools but, I wanna do a little experimenting.
It was also nice meeting you yesterday and nice finding your music again.
thanks a lot Patrick

Amazing! &mdash 02/10/08 - 09:11:39 PM
Outstanding vocals... perfect harmonies and support your excellent main vocal.

This is about perfect the way it is. The only thing keeping it perfect is if it were on my ipod... think I'll take care of that right now!

Fantastic song, Droop. Be proud of this one!

I'm really glad you like this one so much. So you wanna buy a copy, lets see..........have to give you a discount cause It doesn't have a track really.
I did call it a sketch so that's a little more off............ok how bout 23 cents
or a burger king coupon which ever you prefer. Ha! AC you send me a note
with your email address and I'll gladly send it to ya, and thanks so much
for your kind comments.

Love the vocals, and the pad's not too shabby either. Top harmonies and a top song. This has raised the MJ vocal bar for sure.

What plans do you have for taking this further?

Stunning vox.

Aww now Neil &mdash 02/11/08 - 10:47:50 AM
I've heard you sing, I love your voice and there are plenty of good singers
here. You know it used to be that I couldn't wait to do the vocals on a new song.....and now I more or less kinda dread it, I know thats sad but its the truth.
The only plans I have for this song now is just to stay away from it for a
while.......I tend to get burned out on them especially after doing that many
background tracks.

Thanks for listening and I love your new one

Well thats &mdash 02/11/08 - 10:35:23 PM
what I call it when I just put down a pad or something simple to help
me write the song. I do try to get the backgrounds fairly tight, plus its easier
for me to hear doing harmonies with less going on.
I'm glad you liked it, thanks

Thanks Mcboy &mdash 02/11/08 - 11:05:41 PM
Yeah its pretty simple. I almost didn't finish it because these kind of songs can be hokey plus, I'm not really a fan of them either. Then it dawned on me one day to make it personal with no we, us, you.....just strictly me, and I liked it that way. Sometimes I think I'm more apt to be drawn into a song, as a listener, if it's not pointing a finger at me.

hey thanks again

I Believe You and I... &mdash 02/11/08 - 11:44:39 AM
have this *affliction* in common... getting overwhelmed by ongoing inspiration. I have dozens of tunes "in-process," waiting for production. But I'd much rather go with the flow of inspiration than take the time to finish and produce each one. It can be a real dilemma, but I always reckon it's better to draw water while the stream is still running. ;)

This is a very solid base to build from. You've done very well here and I look forward to hearing the finished product. A truly fine concept and song. ;)

Please don't... &mdash 02/11/08 - 08:47:02 PM
... well I hope you don't mind, but I hear a strong "Toto" influence here. This has such great writing, production, vocal, instrumental performance quality.

Great lyrics, hook, chorus, harmonies, etc. Very refreshing.

Minimalist in musical bed, but just enough... although I would have loved to hear it "rip" into something "fast" after the staccato synth sequence!

love it &mdash 02/12/08 - 07:47:35 AM

A well crafted song. I love the bridge. Thats a million dollar voice and your ear for harmonies is outstanding. The end is perfect for performing live. I'd play this song in my band in a second.

Surprise changes are nice, we call them "songs within a song" - something extra for musicians.

This is one of the most satisfying examples of vocal harmonies that I've heard on this site. You achieve a very warm sound with the close harmonies, and the synth accompaniment fits it perfectly.

Great pop song! It's got all the right elements.

It just sits really nice in all your stuff. I really just love it. And your harmonies rock. You remind me a little bit of Fee Waybil's stuff, both with the Tubes and Solo work.

Very cool. It really works will with just your voice and keys. What mic are you using on vocals? This is a great song. Thanks.

Hello KC &mdash 03/19/08 - 10:27:29 PM
Thought I'd answer this question for you. It's a Audio-technica 3035. I have to be honest though....I'm not crazy about it for me. It's a little strong in the S range and the de-esser in logic I'm not crazy about either. The bottom is a little big for me singing in the lower keys and close to the mic. I used the roll off switch on the mic and rolled some off with EQ. This is just my opinion though and on my voice. I haven't done any of this for a long time so I guess I'll have to get a couple of mic's out of storage. I think singers should always find a mic that's good for their voice.
Like the demo of In Your Arms Again was a sm57. And at that time I had tons of great mics to choose from.

thanks for such nice compliments KC
paul
