Note from dragon spawn XNovemberX (Daughter of Drakonis):
A dedication to national Singles Awareness day for those who have terrible boyfriends or lack thereof... Ahem. I was inspired by Garner_Smake for posting a song! I am an unemployed vocalist and have been thinking of trying to put together a vocal demo for a while now. Thank you very much, Garner_Smake for motivating me (something that my friends can't seem to do)!

These are GarageBand loops, and I wrote the lyrics and sang an original melody over them. I also drew the cat picture.

Singles Awareness Day??
Gee, and I had to cook and clean today, instead of being waited on. Darn. Next year...:-) This song reminds me of my first boyfriend, who told me to get all dressed up and that he'd be over to take me out to dinner. Well, he finally called to say he was in Atlanta.I was in NY. At least it wasn't raining... Sara did a great job singing this. Yaaaaayyyy Sara!!! Looking forward to hearing more vocals from you. I like...
...every aspect of this number from the lyrics to the vocal line and quality to the driving rhythm track that holds it all together. For me, though, it was one verse too short and with a very abrupt ending. But there is so much to like here. Great collab. Can you give it a bit more? (Valentine, go for the demo. You've got the chops.)

Now Drak, being the very young looking dragon that he is, couldn't be more than 784 years old, so that makes you really young :)

Really good stuff in the writing department. I liked the abrupt ending - it worked really well with the words. Musical bed works very well too. I know nit picking may not be appropriate, but I'd love to hear the voice a little better integrated in the mix - maybe it's a mic problem. Just a small point though - congratulations!

Next step IMHO: try to find the higher region in your voice now and then, and don't be afraid to spread some controlled angriness as well. I agree with everyone who said that this shows tremendous promise for you as a songwriter. You have a grasp of song structure that evades many people years older than you and this is a catchy tune with one heck (okay, I want to say hell, but your dad will kill me) of a hook. Very nice arrangement of the loops and you have a terrific voice and sing with tons of expression to boot.

I'd cut back on the reverb and try to get your vocals mixed into the bed a little better, but other than that, I'd say you get an A, young lady. :-)

SmokeyVW: Embarrassingly enough, actually... the guitar and background music were just some loops... But my voice was a live recording over the loops. I'm quite surprised at the number of positive comments I received! THANK YOU FOR PUTTING A FORUM POST ABOUT MY SONG!!!!!!!!! That made my week, as my father must have told you.

Roxylee: Thank you so much for listening! I actually put the loops together and sang over it, my dad helped me with the reverb and figuring out harmonies and the like... But I do owe my existance to him anywase... I guess that equates to owning my soul.

guitapick: Your daughter is awesome. Seriously, when I heard her song, I had to run to my room and start recording right then. I had the coolest idea for this song and I think that's probably what gave so much emotion to it, was that I didn't wait for the inspiration to settle down. I just exploded.

garner_smake: Where did you get that name anyway? You are amazing, truly, thank you for posting your songs. I look forward to more of them! Thank you so much for listening! I just did a band interview with a local band (that I'm good friends with) for a high school video/film project, and got some hope from them about a possible future, ha ha.

thetiler: Ha this one's pretty old, I just got memories because one of my friends is going through a similar (but more devastating) situation, so i brought both my memories and the sympathy for my friend to the song, apparently it made a good combination.

eanbardsley: The intro? Wow I remember that. It was embarrassing. Let's pretend it never happened. But this one I'm actually pretty proud of, and that's an understatement.

sschedra: I'm actually 5"4, thankyouverymuch. No, haha, Thank you very much for that.

jiguma: My magical musburger (nickname for the iMac) has a built in mic, so that may be a small problem. I blame all vocal editing problems on my dad. that was his department. (sticks tongue out at Drak).

I love the lyrics
and especially love the way you deliver them... I'm hearing a lot of emotion. To me, that is everything in a vocal song... it should be personal. You do that extremely well!

I would love to hear this remixed... this song is strong as it is but I think it could be so much more with a little tweaking of the levels (says the guy who has no patience for working on his own music). In any case, this is far better than most first efforts I've heard... including my own. Keep at it!

Absolutely love this...wow. You sound a lot like Amy Lee of Evanescence, which, in my opinion, is a compliment. I love the rich alto tone of your voice. This song actually also has a little bit of a Bjork feel to it. I love the part at the end where you say "I've stopped trying to hide" with silence behind. I'd like to drag you to my house and record you singing this on a better mic or just mess with your vocals. Your voice is beautiful. I'd easily trade my breathy soprano for your sultry alto. Bravo! Wanna hear more!
