Description:
Forbidden ... original A Cappella Alannah
http://www.macjams.com/song/32540
Remember this tune /well here is a more simple mix.
Alannah and I, have together, reached the conclusion that, this is a better version. The last mix had more(too much) instrumentation.
This version is me, figuring out some chords for the tune.
Now I need help turning it into a standard.
Someone to lay down a bluesy guitar track…and then so on….
I’m having trouble finding a good rhythm track…to get started.
Any takers? Helpers/players please.
I want to create a new bed for Alannah.
hmmm
If my wife should hear about this.
Lyrics:
Forbidden…
How can I touch –
What isn’t mine
What do I feel –
When I’ve crossed the line
The warmth of your body
Next to mine –
Forbidden Forbidden
The hidden pleasures –
of your touch
I take so little –
I want so much
But the life I live – will be as such –
oooh forbidden – forbidden

Lovely! &mdash 02/12/08 - 01:50:30 AM
I'd be really interested in helping out on bass or drums or mixing or making the tea and coffee, but was wondering if there's any sort of click track been used. Doesn't sound like it - you might need a proper drummer who can weave into what's already there - unless you're planning to redo the whole thing.
It's a lovely song and I can understand why you want to go further with it.
Maybe I could help fluff up the pillow or something ;)

Hi Neil &mdash 02/12/08 - 08:45:59 AM
Do Bass and drums...and what ever moves you.
I think its very cool that you are interested.
I sent you a note about my ideas.
My visions of grander.
Let me know what you come up with.
You could mess with this version and then we could do a full scale production...too.

this is gorgeous... &mdash 02/12/08 - 08:46:08 AM
what a smoky, sultry mix - i can picture alannah standing at your piano in a slinky velvet number just oozing this out - i'm transported back in time to bars my mother wouldn't have wanted me hanging around in!! fabulous combination of talents - thank you [ Reply to This ]

This sounds pretty great. I can hear light support (brushed drums, spare bass) coming in around 1:01, but it works for me the way it is at this length. If you do expand it, it'll be a great vehicle for anything you want to throw at it.
Beautifully played, and a great, great vocal.

You know Alannah &mdash 02/12/08 - 09:32:32 AM
when you do that Julie London laid back lounge type sounds, it really seems that your main talent really comes through. You really seem to have a talent for that type of style.

this is great Tim... great vocal from Alannah. This is great as is, but would suit more development... you seem to have some takers! [ Reply to This ]

If ever &mdash 02/12/08 - 04:28:46 PM
there was such a thing as 'Mood Music' this is it. What a great voice this is... a real one off, and it suits this song to a 'T'. Lovely work and I do like the sparse accompaniment giving the song room to breath, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Forbidden w/Alannah &mdash 02/12/08 - 05:41:53 PM
ahhh what a cool colab my friends ..the piano
speaks so well to Alannah 's deep voice ..
Kudos !!! [ Reply to This ]
Very nice piece Tim &mdash 02/12/08 - 06:48:46 PM
It needs something to drive it along to make a standard out of it. Standup Bass, Jazz drums, maybe vibes and/or a sax. Kind of like a Jazz Quartet.
It's going to be great when you get it done because it already is in this form.

Nice work &mdash 02/13/08 - 09:55:10 AM
It's always very hard trying to harmonize a freely sung ballad and I think you've done a really fine job trying to structure this piece. [ Reply to This ]
Combination &mdash 02/13/08 - 01:44:02 PM
Sounds good as is. I like your choice of chords here. I can hear the occasional well placed percussion sound, but not a steady loop style rhythm. They're rare and in demand, but a real drummer responding in time to your piano and Alannah's voice would be best.
Thanks

I haven't ..... &mdash 02/14/08 - 12:23:55 AM
... been at my computer for a few days ... so I am a little late to the party here ... but I like where Tim has gone with this one ... I still couldn't even imagine how you guys put music to something that was originally sung as a ACA. I am ahways interested to hear where the Forbidden's will go and would truly enjoy hearing this one morph with the addition of other's ideas and enhancements ... hey who knows maybe we could give old Drak and "Ember" a run for their money with "Forbidden" mixes ... maybe one day even a Forbidden Ember ... Wow, the vocal on this &mdash 02/16/08 - 05:10:13 PM
is just amazing. Sultry, torchlike, expressive, and hypnotic. You have done a wonderful job with the piano. The true magic here lies in the fact that the piano and vocal mesh so well, as if it were a live performance. Very cool. I can see how you might want to turn this into something bigger (Are you imagining strings, or is that just me?) I wish I had the chops to offer something useful. I look forward to hearing what comes of this. Kudos to you both. Outstanding song. Peace. [ Reply to This ]
Good song &mdash 02/17/08 - 11:29:26 PM
This is a really good version... I like the sound of the vocal and piano... Thanks for sharing... [ Reply to This ]
versatile &mdash 03/01/08 - 03:45:04 PM
Impressive piano work. Picking up the chords from this a cappella melody is quite something. And you have managed to keep the mood very well. I tried to play along, but found it to be a bit out of my comfort zone.
If you're going to add stuff, I think it will be easier to go the other way around, with putting Allanah's vox on top afterwards. If you're not adding drums, it may be cooler to add to what you already have here though.
But I'm also very impressed with how Alannah has kept time and tune so well with no instruments to lean on. [ Reply to This ]
Great! &mdash 03/04/08 - 01:54:55 PM
Great work here Sir Timothy, Alannah vocals are just amazing, the piano work is very clever. I hope I can help you but I'm just busy with my school. So sorry but it's great!
Thanks a lot for sharing, looking forward to hear what Jiguma will do .. He fits here.
Take Care

I'm way late to the party here, and haven't yet heard the first version, but I think this sounds great as is. Yes, I guess you could throw in some low help, light percussion, but it doesn't NEED that to my ears. The piano showcases her incredible voice, the voice dramatizes the piano. What else does there really need to be? (And good luck with your wife!) Thanks [ Reply to This ]
