Funky Bud &mdash 02/12/08 - 12:59:44 PM
Cool , groovy with greeat drums and percussion. You've gotta call yourself DJ Bud now.

this is such a change of pace, but you pull it off with aplomb. Dunno if its the reverb but this has a great live feel which really works for the track.

Nice horns man!

Thanks Steve &mdash 02/12/08 - 02:34:13 PM
I was just having some fun without pulling out the instruments. I can pick away at something like this - without taking over the house.

I can smell the fruit punch! &mdash 02/12/08 - 01:09:35 PM
OK, so this is loopy and and fun dance music (with cute subtle sax & keys improvs peeking in here and there)... but what stands out is the overall "atmosphere"... your use of ambient crowd sounds, and the large-room-reverb, really makes this sound EXACTLY like you recorded a real dance party in a dance hall. Very expertly done there!

I really appreciate your comments Drak &mdash 02/12/08 - 03:04:11 PM
I actually just checked to see if I could delete this song cause I was afraid it was too atmospheric. A lot of the details are hard to hear - but not to your ears obviously. I'm glad you got into the live vibe. I may strip this down to the rhythm track and do a live instrument version when I get a chance. Originally that's where I was headed but I got carried away with the loops.

Dunno how you get &mdash 02/12/08 - 03:15:24 PM
this sound.

I'm there in the hall, still not past first base but there's a quart of cider to go yet.

Cheers

fun track - sounds like it's all around me. Terrific atmosphere, love the sax loops (where did they come from?). Very unusual loops and extremely enjoyable listen bud.
Cheers

Thanks Len &mdash 02/12/08 - 07:02:42 PM
It's all in your head. The loops are a combo of DOD drums and Apple remix loops with a few regulars that I tweaked.

Bud- &mdash 02/12/08 - 07:46:43 PM
This is awesome man, I'm kind a loophead so I can recognize a handful of them in here but they are blown waaaay out there! super creative use of effects on those. Give Morris Day and the Time a call and see if they're looking for any new material. Very cool sir

Glad you like it and said so. Every so often I love a good loop session - it's kinda like coloring.

cool track &mdash 02/15/08 - 04:11:22 PM
been sick so i just found it. this is really great. i know you were having fun, but if you do the threatened re-mix, i can almost hear David Byrne singing over this and an Adrian Belew guitar solo where the sax is. Maybe a Bud/Hamlet Machines re-mix would be truly sick. great job. did that package arrive yet? just want to make sure the PO didn't screw the pooch.

Thanks for turning me on &mdash 02/16/08 - 07:07:36 AM
to Hamlet Machines. That's an interesting idea. Thanks for the package too.

Ibstrat...I hate dancing, too, but I am pretty certain I'd be making a darn fool of myself if I ever heard this song in a night club...Makes ya wanna MOVE, and that's exactly what music is supposed to do: get a reaction, and, in this case, a really good one. Very nice, Bud. Kinda woke me up at 10 p.m. Thanks.
Peace.

If you remix &mdash 02/16/08 - 07:18:41 AM
can you get it to sound like it's coming through the concrete walls.. you know, like it sounds when all us geeks are out waiting in line while the A-listers get right in.

Cool and fun jam, Bud!

Cool sound &mdash 02/16/08 - 08:02:39 AM
I've been thinking a lot lately about 'older' production sounds, and wondering how to go about getting them. This is reassuring, even if you didn't mean it to be.
Thanks,

The "older" production sound &mdash 02/16/08 - 06:30:14 PM
was definitely intentional. I worked doing the stage lighting at the first Danceteria back in 1980. The main dance floor was a floor below the the performance area and I loved the way the music sounded from different perspectives - and it was always about the beat. Glad you stopped by.

I also thought of...... &mdash 02/21/08 - 07:08:57 PM
Tom Waits meets disco. The crowd noise was what made it feel that way. There's an old Tom Waits song called "In Shades" recorded live at a club; must be what I was relating to. I love what you do with this. Very much a Bud-Fun mix, cool groove.

When You Got Beat &mdash 03/13/08 - 10:05:16 AM
everything's gonna fall right into place. It's always about the beat - I fell in love with KC & The Sunshine Band in my formative years, and in their early years (long before any booties were being shook) their stuff was loose, punchy and dynamite. I never forgot that - or Rick Finch's sinewy, liquid bass guitar playing. Pity all people remember about them now is 'disco' and a few overplayed singles... this stuff was all about beat, and crowded rooms, and that single god 'groove'.

You got it, Bud. You got it bad!
