Description:
Another partial repost of sorts. The first 3 minutes, SP-117 is a segue/extended intro to a song I posted a while back called This Unknown. I also remixed This Unknown and gave the choruses a little more punch as well as tweaked a few other things.

These songs are demos for a concept album I'm currently recording in the studio with my band 'Satellite Tragedy'.

By the way the 'SP' in 'SP-117' stands for SpacePort. The piece is meant to give off a vibe of a busy spaceport while our protagonist waits for his flight into the unknown.....

I know it's long, but If you have exactly 8 mins to spare, please check this out ;)

Lyrics:
I'm floating high inside my mind
Waiting for the call
That tells me she'll be here in time
To catch me when I fall
But as I climb into the clouds
My fears begin to fade
Her gravity gives up on me
As it pushes me away

Suddenly I don't mind
Being alone
I look around and I feel like
I'm right at home
In this unknown

The burning stars illuminate
The pitchest dark I've ever seen
And she looks so small from up here
But it's good to be lonely
The satellites reflect the sun
And compromise my sight
The constellations laugh at me
As I fade into the night

Suddenly I don't mind
Being alone
I look around and I feel like
I'm right at home
In this unknown

I can't recall the frequency
All transmissions have stopped
A deafening silence surrounds me
But I don't care at all

You're spot on with the Floyd reference. i didnt realize it when i wrote it but when I heard the playback of that progression at the start, 'Hey You' definitely came to mind. sounds like you really listened closely to this and I appreciate that, so thanks feter!

totally P. Floyd inspired.& a bit of earlier Smashing Pumkins at there best, BUT, this still comes across as original. Totally enjoyed it! a fast 8 minutes at that.

I grew up on Floyd... my dad always cranked it every Saturday morning while I was "sleeping in". It's funny how all those early influences can creep in on your work unexpectedly. Anyway, thanks a lot for listening and commenting.

quite an epic song in a very enjoyable way. Your recording/mastering skills are extremely professional sounding. Love the slightly discordant chord changes. A very original sounding track.
Cheers

one of my favs &mdash 02/13/08 - 10:39:39 AM
Starts off as a Pink Floyd-type thing. Then breaks into a great modern hit-rock song. Long, but great. That's not a problem at all.
Once again, great stuff!

Thanks Dave. I'm hoping ppl won't get too bored when they listen to the finished record because there's 3 segues like this that go on for a bit. I think when listened as a whole though people will 'get it' and enjoy it... or not! Anyway thanks for commenting.

I really like the way the sounds blend in the solo. Very cool.

thanks nick &mdash 02/13/08 - 11:23:32 AM
i totally stumbled onto that solo. it was meant to be played with just one guitar but I left a previous take of it on while tracking another and discovered it sounded pretty cool as a dueling type thing. Thanks for listening and commenting. I'm loving 'Burnt'!
