Soft and powerful... &mdash 02/12/08 - 07:16:15 PM
This song and the one played in your Youtube video both give me great sunsetty feelings. Can't say much else, besides I really enjoyed sitting back and relaxing to this music. I usually use music as a back-drop for some other activity like writing or drawing, but your songs become the foreground. I don't seem to need anything else to keep my mind occupied.

You certainly have the rhythm at your finger tips. This is wonderful and conjures up all kinds of pictures in ones mind.. I could paint to this and probably will. Fantastic playing and a true master of the instrument, regards M

Mr Tiler! &mdash 02/13/08 - 01:49:05 PM
What a great version. Your playing and technique are superb! To me there's nothing better than a great sounding nylon guitar, and I know how hard it is to get that great sound. You have it down with those 451's and
it must be a great sounding guitar also.

Thanks Tiler

I get a lot of &mdash 02/15/08 - 02:08:31 PM
satisfaction recording. I do like to change the mics alot before recording. Trying to find the sweet spot, then maybe the toughest part is getting the volume to go up as much as possible in the meter readouts. But then the real bear can be trying to make the parts that go into the red subdued as much as possible. That isn't always easy.

When you to some hard strumming, plus do a lot of fingerpicking, it really is a great transition in volume. If the mics are too close to the guitar which I love doing, that can easily be a bear when you do the bar chord strong movements.

So it really is a give and take, trying to find something you can live with. I do try to keep away from the 12 fret with a mic. Though many books love to add that technique.

i just watched your video, bill.

to hear the absolutely brilliant music and see it reflected in your body was a gift. got my first set of chills somewhere between 1:25 and 1:35. 4:12-wow! i had a smile plastered across my face like i coulda been at a priceless world class concert - and lo, so i was. and the entire experience was topped off by that SF cap - yo a doodle, bill!

impressed to pieces,

Glad I didn't scare you off, attracting females sure isn't an easy thing to do when you get older. Especially how so much of music on radio today is geared towards youth. Some of us older guys have got a have some place to hang our musical hats. I know I have to be much more generous in donating my time to all the great musicians here. Especially the ones that visited my site through the years here.

Thanks

Not much to say... &mdash 02/14/08 - 07:52:13 AM
...except that this is outstanding, Bill...outrageously great...reminds me a bit of Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez"...but with your signature all over it...wonderful...

I love &mdash 02/14/08 - 10:09:16 AM
that piece guitarpick, I think that piece is the greatest guitar composition of time, bar none. To compare it with that is quite a complement indeed.

Thanks so much. And to think Rodrigo the composer of it was blind most of his life. .

Bill, this is what I enjoy most about what you do - straight playing in your own inimmitable style. You pick so cleanly and get such rich tones from the guitar.

I've learnt an awful lot about recording acoustic guitar from you in the past, and this is a perfect example of your recording technique. I can even hear your body movements between the mics, a subtle, personal touch which helps me imagine you playing this in my mind.

A really good piece of writing also.

Congratulations!
Neil

The Gospel according to Pall... &mdash 02/15/08 - 09:38:43 AM
Lovely, Bill.

I believe I told you how impressed I was by the video version, but this is equally sweet... and much warmer. This version has some very beautiful *touches* of its own.

It effectively communicates the pall... and the sorrow... associated with the loss of our sons and daughters in wars throughout our history.

Well done. ;)

The two type of guitar are sure different in there sound for sure. I guess the classical guitar has really been tested through time. So many guitarist have spent their lives playing it. That has to mean something for sure. I know both have their special sounds. I guess the secret to know were to go to tap into their secrets, only going on a long journey through deep and shallow paths can one find acoustical nirvana.

Gad maybe that makes sense to me:)

I Love all &mdash 02/15/08 - 08:24:33 PM
of your recordings, but my favorites are the solo guitar pieces. You really are getting an amazing sound. What kind of guitar is that? I miss playing nylon string terribly-unfortunately this bizarre pain syndrome in my left hand won't allow it.
Great performance!

Lovely piece Bill &mdash 02/19/08 - 11:31:04 AM
full of insistent drive and quiet contemplation, tender phrasing and masterful control throughout. You just pick off a few harmonics here and there as seemingly easily as just changing your mind. Gorgeous tone and so well recorded as well - just the right amount of space.

Thank you for sharing this with us!

I noticed after downloading from the description you wrote for the song itself that it's (Supposed to be at America's Got Talent) ... WHAT HAPPENED? WHY NOT SIR?

This is amazing new version from one of my most favorite of yours, great to have you back here sir.

Thanks a lot for sharing ...

Bill, Your mix of styles as you weave your way around the instrument just keeps the listener riveted to your piece. Someday you'll have to come to Long Island and give a concert. We have many fine venues.
Thanks again,
Stephen

Bill, this is the best thing I've come across on MJs. You are a master of the guitar (playing and recording it). I'm sure this is a solo guitar piece as it's so together but the stereo seperation makes it sound like two guitars at times. Have you got a little delay on one side to widen the sound? Whatever you've done, whether one guitar or two, it's magical. Any tips on getting this wide sound would be much appreciated!

[ Reply to This ]
The wide &mdash 03/22/08 - 01:53:51 PM
sound is because of having stereo mics I think.

I use 2 AKG 451 b's
