Description:
A poem I wrote and put to music.

Lyrics:
THE YEARS I WAS A COWBOY

there’s a river
I didn’t throw myself into;
there’s a pistol
that I didn’t use,

but as it moved past my eyes
to kiss my forehead
its barrel was
the colour of a bruise.

there are pills
that rattle in my pocket
like a ghostly drummer
with drumsticks of bone;

a dozen
and I’m sure I’d dance forever —
two or three
just seem to keep me stoned.

there’s a bottle
that is shaped just like a woman;
there’s a woman
that I need just like a drink;

at noon the sun
rips over my horizon,
and I’m reaching
before there’s even time to think.

and that’s all I can remember
of the years I was a cowboy;
that’s all I can remember
of those years

nice one &mdash 02/23/08 - 10:34:09 AM
there's a hidden rhythm behind these words - it's really cool how that keeps you moving through the concepts

once it was over, it finally became clear how the backing music and that hidden rhythm are like someone riding, perhaps through an endless prairie

very cool!

thanks
