Description:
As strange as this may seem I am not a supporter of capital punishment, though for two reasons only, -the first being on grounds of an unsafe conviction of which there have been several and the second because of feelings for the family of a convicted person who will also suffer. BUT- I wrote this song in anger after reading about the two unrelated cases of Michael Mullen and the Harte / Duncan case [where I would be tempted to make an exception]
The first concerns Kimberly Harte and Samual Duncan , two beauties who abused and tortured their own four year old daughter who was also handicapped, to quote BBC news24 -
“ The little girl had boiling water poured over her hands, had huge clumps of hair ripped from her head. She was also kicked so hard in the groin she suffered internal injuries, was locked naked in the toilet each night and forced to eat her own faeces.”
The second concerns the man in the picture- Michael Mullen who raped and then strangled a little two year old girl, Casey Leigh Mullen for which he got life.

Anyway, back to the music, - as I said it was written in anger and I suppose maybe some may think in bad taste as well , but I thought it was a good catchy song and despite all it’s pitfalls, it got to be played on American radio. I just want to make people aware.

Thank you for listening

Lyrics:
String ‘em up Mr.Judge [ key A ] written 2007

Kimberly and Duncan were two do badders,
Foolin’ the authorities they had their way.
Takin’ their crimes beyond the point of obscenity,
For people like this it’s just another day.

You read it in the papers and you hear it on the radio,
But most of us agree that sometning has to be done,
There’s a remedy for sure that’ll stop it in the long run,
We know that it’s the answer and the only one.

String ‘em up Mr.Judge, their a danger and a menace,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge even though they complain,
Hang ‘em high in the morning watch them wriggle watch them struggle,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge or they’ll do it again.

They bullied and abused their little innocent victim,
Four years of age she was given no choice,
Why did they do it? – ‘cos there’s nothing there to stop them,
Blame the politicians who have paved the way.

String ‘em up Mr.Judge, their a danger and a menace,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge even though they complain,
Hang ‘em high in the morning watch them wriggle watch them struggle,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge or they’ll do it again.

Casey Leigh Mullen is another in a long line,
Just like all the others she has paid the price,
Poiticians talk as the carnage breaks out again,
They wanna be the good guys and they wanna be nice.

String ‘em up Mr.Judge, their a danger and a menace,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge even though they complain,
Hang ‘em high in the morning watch them wriggle watch them struggle,
String ‘em up Mr.Judge or they’ll do it again.

I actually &mdash 02/17/08 - 08:19:00 AM
feel guilty about loving this song - like I shouldn't enjoy anything with this subject matter.
But I can't help it - it's a great, catchy song that's performed with great mastery. Played on the radio - congratulations John, it deserved to be.
Cheers
Len

I know a singing surgeon and now I feel like I know a singing journalist!
Ha! Okay he's obviously guilty so the little girl's parents shouldn't have to pay for his room & 3 for the rest of their lives. If I was a parent of the little girl I would have no problem giving this guy two in the chest and one in the head! Now I really like the feel you got on this, as I do with most your songs woofer. You have a great voice and you are an excellent songwriter. I'm still waiting for you to write and sing a boogie number.

thanks for posting this

Thank you all, that is,- Eagle, and Len, and Droop for your comments, wasn't too sure about posting this, - still I'm glad you like the song.

Maybe I do a boogie woogie song next. I have decided to go for one posting a week, two at the most, from now on.

John.

Forget the politics this is a great song, with a great chorus, fine harmony and great arrangement. Horns sound great.

Way to go!

Hi
Well , well, well, what can i say to this fantastic
work of art your music is fabulous my freind I love this raggae feel and its my favourite music. you sang it brilliantly really groovy. Well done
But having said that, I feel really guilty i read both cases and cried my eyes out. But I also studied Psycholgy for many years to find out why such badness exists in some people. Anyhow thats all I have to say
thanks.

Peace
Dee

thank you &mdash 02/21/08 - 10:33:47 AM
Dee and 80's boy, the first rough recording of this sounded more like a Bob Dylan song the way it was done but then I decided to change it to what it is now and it just seemed to come to life.

did you find out why? Why does it exist in people? I so would love to know (without having to study psychology for years ;)
But I mean it, why?

I think it's &mdash 02/24/08 - 02:40:40 AM
just a case of good old fashioned evil. I am more concerned with why they actually do it and am pretty sure in most cases it's due to the absence of a real deterrent. I am not comfortable with capital punishment because of the posibillity of an unsafe conviction, BUT - having said that there was a lot less of this type of crime around before it's abolition in the mid 1960's. I'm pretty sure myself that had there been a possibility of an appointment with the hangman for Michael Mullen then little Casey Leigh would still be alive.

great rhythm, I am hearing so much great music here at mj and this one is no exception. Your voice sound radio friendly.

Seems like every-time I listen to a woofer tune I hear terrific tunes.

This was fun to hear woofer!

The blood &mdash 02/22/08 - 11:14:38 AM
is freezing in my veins hearing the story John, but even more it is freezing while listening to your song. Because the utter horror captured in the lyrics contrasts so oddly so weirdly but at the same time hypnotizingly well with the melody and rhythm of the song.
Have you ever seen the movie Plunkett&Maclean? Do you remember that, is some way, strange modern music with electric guitars and drum set implanted into a movie from mid 18th century England? At the first moment you were thinking, it can not be, this can never work together, but at the end it was the most brilliant movie music I heard in years.
I feel exactly the same with your song. One would say the melody the rhythm can never work with the lyrics. Just a mad man would put together a story so horrifying and melody so happy and cheerful. But this is EXACTLY why it works so fantastic.
An extraordinary song John.

Hello Ceilidh, &mdash 02/22/08 - 03:32:40 PM
thank you for listening, I have written several pieces like this, and I find the contrast between the music and lyrics seems to draw attention to the song more. This particular one was written in anger, I'm not sure what the answer is with people who commit these crimes, but whatever, - I would see them in hell before I would defend them, maybe I'm not as far up the evolutionary scale as some, but that's the way I feel. I believe you fight fire with fire, I've said it before, - violence is a sort of currency, as history has taught us over and over. Why do you think that it is always the soft target that suffers the most? answer - because it often can't fight back. There must be millions of examples.

Thanks again, your comments are very much appreciated and valued.

John

this is a case &mdash 02/22/08 - 04:51:03 PM
for judge dredd himself.

I feel the style you've chosen, though it has often been use to comment on actuality and is often reffering to violence, filters the anger and gives some distance; and as it is slightly retro, gives it a more intemporal feel.

Maybe we &mdash 02/22/08 - 07:02:03 PM
need another Judge Dread, - possibly Rayner Goddard, certain it is, in his reign there was a lot less of this around then.

Thanks for listening.
