Description:
It's always the way and always worse when everyone makes it their business.

CREATED IN EQUAL PART BY:
Miss Annie
Neil "Drinvin' Wheel" Porter
and rtcooper

Lyrics:
EVERYBODY KNOWS

When the birds of prey stop to listen
Wheeling on the wailing winds
A broken heart cries out breathlessly
And you wait for it all to begin again
It comes. You know
Once friend now foe
Once high now low
And everybody knows
Everybody knows

When the blush of the evening
Falls upon the avenue
And the swell-dressed crowd is leaving now
Oh, things to do and talking ‘bout you
It comes. They go
Once friend, now foe
Once high now low
And everybody knows
Everybody knows

The vagrant calls of midnight
Echo in the vaulted halls
Where once burned a fiery love
Now too distant to recall
It comes. You know.
Once friend, now foe
Once high, now low
And everybody knows
Everybody knows
Once high now low
Everybody knows
Once friend now foe
Everybody knows

Great fun was had by all! &mdash 02/17/08 - 08:45:35 PM
As a member of this little band, I am a little biassed, but this is certainly one of the most satisfying collabs I've done at MJ.

Coop sent the original Strats and kit track with his unmistakeable vocal - I tried to turn it into an RnB song but was quickly redirected. Then Anne's vocal arrived and it all seemed so obvious where this needed to go.

I love the cool, rolling feel on this, the story is great (make sure you read the words!), and Coop and Anne perform really well. It all just fell together so easily, as Coop said in an email this morning (see below). This one goes into my iPod (as soon as I get it to talk to my mac) - but then again, I don't have to put it there - it's indelibly burned into my brain :)

Good song Coop!

I don't think Coop will mind if I quote the email I just mentioned:

"THE Complexity of true Collaboration is pretty astounding, especially when it covers thousands of miles and a dozen time zones.
Starting out, the Song had no Harmony, no Bass, a B3 wasn%u2019t even thought of, never mind several versions of each.
Most Collabs are more like being a %u201Csession man%u201D, you play your part, send it off and that%u2019s a Collab.
This Song has been entirely different.
This one just kept on evolving like we were all in the same Studio.
The Master Take is the %u201CFinal%u201D, Mixed on the beaches of Australia, with its incredible Soundstage and Detail."

Coop also said:
"if i knew this would turn out so good, i woulda made it better."

Thanks Coop, got another?

Neil

Dylan and The Band. Freakin' fantastic and amazing. Purely poetic. Other words escape me now.

I saw Emmylou a in 2003 when she was the opening act for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. I'll agree with you here- 100%

Coop, if you haven't already seen it, see NY and Emmylou in "Heart Of Gold", NY's 2005 (?) DVD.

Great writing! This has a great hook because the sentiment is so succinctly stated. Unique stated, universally recognizable feeling. Great jobs all around; great song Coop.

Great .. &mdash 02/18/08 - 05:55:15 AM
..straight up song, neat arrangement. It's like a lovely blend of Tom Petty, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen and Lindsey Buckingham on lead guitar :o)

Fine lyrics, playing and singing all round.

Mix sounds good too on these HD445s I've got on at the mo.

A few 'woah woah' 'yeh-ah' 'uh huh' 'oo': kinda gruffly sung off the cuff bits I expected in the background of the outro chorus...lent itself to that kinda thang if you ask me... but .. er... you didn't. lol. ;o)

the spark &mdash 02/18/08 - 09:28:54 PM
this has that certain undefinable spark that gives a song legs long after it rotates through... or in the real word would keep it in the classic rotation...

Beautiful collab! &mdash 04/08/08 - 04:29:24 PM
I like everything about this piece. The music is classic. The real treat, after the excellent guitar soloing, is the vocals. Nice to hear Anne's lovely harmony vox behind the Coops lead vox. And the bass is exactly what it needs to be. No more. No less. BRAVO all!

Be well!

Everybody Knows &mdash 05/05/08 - 03:14:54 PM
That this is a well-constructed song and arrangement. I love the vocals and the organ sound is great.

I would suggest a cleaner lead guitar sound. The notes are good, but the distortion runs contrary to the overall feel of the song.

Excellent song.
