Description:
After noticing I haven't posted a song in over a year despite spending a lot of free time making music I had to bang out a quick one here. Seems like being any kind of a perfectionist has stifled my output so this tune is an effort to ignore the visions of what could be and to enjoy what is.

Hope you enjoy.

this one would benefit from drums and bass but it's great just the way is.

Sorry &mdash 02/25/08 - 11:10:00 PM
Sorry about deleting that last tune, I've heard it from a couple of people that they were not happy with me removing it. I'll make a point of putting it back on here in the very near future

Thanks for the listen though!

Old school lead &mdash 02/23/08 - 05:36:38 AM
It's all gonna be in the mix. There's a little warble in some of your high-note attack that reminds me of how Jeff Beck used to bend it back in the early days (late 60s). Nice an old-school vibe. The energy and overall success of whatever larger piece this might become will lie in the rhythm section.

Old- School &mdash 02/25/08 - 11:13:59 PM
Thanks for the feedback and the Beck comparison! I think just about any guitar lead has an old-school vibe to it considering the guitar solo seems to have gone out of style right along with the cassette tape.

I'll fight that trend until they pry my pick from my cold, dead hands!

Nice to see you post again.... It sure have a good go like your guitar playing..And like Bad Smells says "this one would benefit from drums and bass but it's great just the way is." I have to agree.

Take care

Good to be back &mdash 02/25/08 - 11:16:19 PM
It's been too long. I'm happy you made it back to give this one a listen my friend. You'll be hearing more from me again, I forgot how fun this is!

You can call it blues... &mdash 02/23/08 - 10:37:01 AM
...but I hear a lot of Lou Reed/Velvets in the progrression, the raucous guitar tones, and the straight-ahead rhythm...

This reminds of wonderful times when I first bought a Big Muff Pi in about 1977...

I'm really glad you posted something, rough or not. I'm another guy that struggles with releasing things as 'done' or 'good enough', so I totally get it about making one as "a quick one" to prime the pump....

Thanks Ed &mdash 02/25/08 - 11:22:28 PM
"Prime the pump" is a great way to put it. I've been away from posting tunes that I forgot how good it feels to get something out there again.

With no other outlet besides some acoustic guitar in the living room to my family, and one evening a week teaching, I really need Macjams to get that feeling of satisfaction that only comes from having your music heard.

Speaking of hiatuses, when can we expect your next donation to the collective?

cool &mdash 02/25/08 - 09:30:39 AM
Nice vibe on this one - I like the way the lead just hangs behind the riff. A nice chunky bass would fit this. Good to hear some more - don't be such a perfectionist, there is such a thing as good enough!!!

True Enough &mdash 02/25/08 - 11:26:49 PM
I'll be less judgemental of my creations in the future. Better to have them heard than to have them fester in the dark corners of my hard drive.

Most of them anyway!

And I'm picking up a theme in the comments here regarding the lack of rhythm section.

Hmmm... my neighbour does have a bass for sale...

Yep &mdash 02/27/08 - 11:08:52 AM
I did keep waiting for the rhythm section to come in, but the playing SMOKES, so I'm very glad you posted it anyway and remembered your macjams jones. Your avatar has always made me smile, so I'm very happy to see it again.

Go and get that bass, this is really good!

Or... &mdash 02/27/08 - 11:09:50 AM
..go out and get yourself a macjams bassist and someone who does drums to collab with you. This one could get huge.

The Missing Piece &mdash 02/27/08 - 11:09:35 PM
Thanks for the kind words and the welcome back. And I've taken your words, and the rest of your fellow commenters to heart.

Even though I didn't buy that bass, tonight I experimented with a rhtym section. It's a brand new bag for me and I play keyboard with the profiecency of a kid at a xylophone, but it let me get some cool ideas out.

Check it out here...Rhythm by Request

Of course, if anyone would like to provide a real backing track, or anything for that matter, I`d love to collab.
