Description
The feel of this tune was inspired by watching T-Bone Burnett - Alison Krauss - and Robert Plant perform songs from their CD Raising Sand. The band was so subdued and in the pocket it was beautiful to watch. Well - This isn't nearly as wonderful - and I've been messing with it a few days hoping it might get better - but hell it's not budging and life's too short.
However - I do really like Will's poem The Bar at the Farmer's Hotel - that I turned to for lyrics here. Not sure I did him or this song justice - but it's late - and I'm tired.

Lyrics
Friday night at the bar
in the Farmer’s Hotel
Small pools of snow melt
on the floor beneath the rail
The sweet smell of boot leather
rich and strong like stew
in the bar’s damp warmth
Denimed shoulders
hunched over a shot and a stout
Rough red faces reflected
in the dim light
of the back bar mirror
Familiar bottles gleaming
amber and gold
like liquid beacons
From the corner jukebox
Crazy Mama shuffles softly
a gauzy musical massage
relaxing sore muscles
like the practiced hands
of a strong woman.
Then Sweet Melissa
kindles the weekend flame
as the first tired couple
weaves a soft two step
around the oaken tables.
When the door opens
cold wedges in
a cloud of steam
from another grateful pilgrim
just delivered from the hushed winter
new fallen snow darkness
Friday night at the bar
in the Farmer’s Hotel
as the earth breathes and rests
and the low voices murmur
Hymns of quiet release
