Song Description

The recent lunar eclipse made me do it.

Lyrics:
Lunar Eclipse

when the night begins to fold its arms
and the chill in the air has its way
i'm getting anxious to know
if you're ready to go
but i'm hoping you will stay

when the moon hides its face
it's dark maroon in outer space
if you think it's begun
in just a wink it's all undone

alley cat you follow me
so where you at? why can't i see?
every night you're on your feet
the same old sight a different street

when the night unfolds its hidden charms
and the chill in the air melts way
when the warm breezes blow
and we're getting to know
the lights across the bay

and the starlight shimmers in your eyes
with the milky way lighting the way
i suspect all this time
you've been reading my mind
there's nothing left to say

Really lovely &mdash 02/27/08 - 07:20:43 AM
song Bill and very well performed in the style of the masers. The backing 'vocals' sound real and I like your vocal on it.
Cheers
Len

This is one of those timeless pieces that could have been written 100 years ago, or 100 years the future, providing we haven't blown up the world. I really like the little PFish interlude after v 2. It's always good to hear you sing, Bill, and the oohs are real nice, too. I'm glad the eclipse got you to write this. :-)

i guess that little bridge is sort of floydish in a way... it needed something like that to make the pacing feel right.

thanks

Very cool Bill - &mdash 02/27/08 - 06:58:53 PM
there's something very Chet Baker about your delivery (different key of course) - and the chord changes are nicely unpredictable. Beautiful lyrics and feeling. Excellent.

your mention of Chet Baker led me to mention this to my wife who then gave me a "best of" as a birthday gift. he did sing very plainly, didn't he? i guess that's where you're coming from. i agree, i don't feel vocals need coloratura all over the place, as is the current style, so i'm going to the other extreme. besides, it's either that or no singing for me at all! :-)

maybe someone out there who can actually sing would like to give this a shot? (hint)

thanks

Very nice song &mdash 02/27/08 - 09:18:53 PM
and beautifully performed. Your vocal sounds great on this, and the music is terrific. Some very nice images in the lyrics, and a great ambience to the whole piece. Love those backing vocals! Very nicely done. Peace.

P.S. I was actually inspired by the eclipse to write something as well, but it's still in utero. Hopefully, it'll see the light of day some day!

somehow that evening made me think in terms of jazz chords - and it all unfolded from there.

thank you

i love extending poetry rhyming schemes -- compare the opening stanza with the one that starts "when the night unfolds its hidden charms" -- they rhyme line for line - yet they are opposite sides of feeling uncertain and feeling at ease...

anyway, thanks for listening and glad you enjoyed

Hi Bill
Your lyrics are really good I am not sure if you are aware but I am not a professional musician as you clearly are. I have only been making music well trying too. lol
Self taught for just over six months, I know what my two ears like to hear though ,and your 'sensational' music they absolutely love.
Your singing at first made me instantly think of 'Frank Sinartra'
cheers.

hi

thanks, but Sinatra would have done a thousand times better than my little attempt at singing here. he also would probably have insisted on more elaborate backup instruments as well.

thanks for listening and commenting!

Ohhh I think my voice might go nicely with this one. Very laid back...no belting but i would still be able to make it emotional. I'm interested!
