Description:
I wrote this for my wife when we was courtin'. She gave me a picture of her standing next to some of the tallest sunflower plants I have ever seen.
It's a little ruff right now, I'll probably keep tweekin it for awhile, maybe get some help with the vocals, do some variations in the solos. hope you like it so far.
Lyrics:
Daylight has folded her arms and tucked herself in
Starlight has found me wishin for your touch
the warmth of your skin
I close my eyes and dream of you
and it's almost as if I can touch you
Someday oh someday
Seems like lately that's all I've been thinking
And I'm waitin for my sunflower girl
Morning is callin and I awake to greet the day
as my mind wanders I think of you
I wonder what you'd say
If I showed up on your doorstep with some silly old excuse
Like- could I borrow some eggs or some sugar?
Some day oh someday
Seems like lately that's all I been thinkin
Hardware:
G5, firepod, beringer mic, chinese mic
Software:
logic express 7, apple loops

Love this! &mdash 02/29/08 - 04:03:16 AM
What a great recorded sound and mix - music and vocals spot on. If this is your rough version I can't wait to hear the final product. How did you record the guitar -did you use stereo mics? How was the mic(s) set up? Any advice on getting that guitar sound would be much appreciated (though I guess your playing technique and touch will have a lot to do with it!).
Many thanks [ Reply to This ]
thanks &mdash 02/29/08 - 10:18:59 PM
I use 2 large di condenser mics about a foot from the guitar, one at the bridge, one at around the 12th fret. I used a thinner pick than I usually play with- I think it was a yellow or green tortex. the rest was the logic acoustic guitar patch. Then try to relax. [ Reply to This ]
Drawn in &mdash 02/29/08 - 06:06:41 AM
by the title... it sounded warm and optimistic. So I listened to the song... and it, too, was warm and optimistic. Very nice song- and sweet the way it is.
However I'd be happy to try and help you out with some harmony vocals if you'd like... [ Reply to This ]
Sunny delight! &mdash 02/29/08 - 11:17:48 AM
This is just so wonderful. So many beautiful uplifting elements happening here that express those emotions when a guy is high on a particular woman.A cheerful, joyous sedimental piece.Man oh man your picking and melodies are fantastic. She must be some kinda' lady!I wouldn't change a lick.Very much enjoyed is an understatement.

El Bandito &mdash 03/01/08 - 11:13:46 PM
Glad you like the tune. Everything but the vocals and acoustic guitar is audio instruments. I loaded up a loop with the instrument I wanted and then wrote the parts with my mouse. Once you get goin it really gets easy, just try to think like you were playin that instrument. The banjo was a hoot. [ Reply to This ]

Really good &mdash 03/02/08 - 06:05:57 PM
singing and playing. The only nit I can find is that there's maybe too long an introduction, but having said that, I loved the introduction ;) Really like your harmonies - excellent post. Your lap steel playing takes the cake, although I like all the instruments. Could probably take a mandolin solo as well, which would make it just about perfect.

Great one sir Paul, amazing job with the accordion and the guitar recording. Loved this very much .. it needs just a little tweaking and re-mixing but I like it as it is now! Thanks a lot for sharing .. Heartfelt message ..

what I would do... &mdash 03/04/08 - 10:13:22 PM
For some odd reason, every once in a while I like to provide a comment that will contain a bit of criticism on how I think the song could be improved, and I hope you don't take it the wrong way. I like the song a lot, but despite the obvious care you took in putting some extra touches into this arrangement, I think that I would lose the accordian and the banjo. They're both too loud and though they're both pretty good synth versions of the real thing, they sound too much like synth versions of the real thing. The second accordian solo starts out with a weird vibrato for instance that just sounds weird. The dobro solos almost sound okay, but something seems overly midi in that too, but maybe they just need to be a bit simpler. The banjo is painful for a banjo player like me to hear, not because of the notes, but because of the sound. I prefer a more down-home sound to my banjo, but that's just me. It's all pretty well composed for a scratch track to indicate the solos but it would be so much better played by the real instruments, especially since the song is so down-home, heartfelt and sincere. I'm probably just being way too picky, but I really love country music like this a lot.
Let's face it the star of this song is the vocals, and I would prefer a version of this that left out all the instrumental geegaws and just focused on the vocals and guitar. This of course is me obviously being a contrarian since everybody else really likes it, but I really think you have a great song here that doesn't need to be dressed up with the midi stuff. It's like wearing a bow tie and top hat with overalls, y'know what I mean? Still I respect your right to wear whatever getup you want, and if it works for you, go for it, dude! [ Reply to This ]
no offence taken what so ever! &mdash 03/05/08 - 10:45:38 AM
In fact, I agree completely with your thoughts about the audio instruments. I'd much rather have real players playing real instruments.
I think a song, in order to have depth, needs many different hands contributing their unique approach to it. Even one guy playing different instruments keeps the tune pretty one dimensional.
Unfortunately, it's been nearly impossible for me to find folks willing and able to contribute, so I go for the least worst case.
Maybe that will change dramatically with this site. :-)
Thank you so much for the critical ear, and sorry about your Patriots, (kinda). [ Reply to This ]
very sweet &mdash 03/04/08 - 10:52:34 PM
I've always admired melodies that can draw a picture. This is clearly the product of one of those rushes you get when you still can't believe someone is yours.
Very nice. [ Reply to This ]
Nice arrangement &mdash 03/05/08 - 08:15:24 AM
I liked the interplay among the lead instruments. I hear what Jim B. is talking about concerning real vs. midi instruments, but I thought overall it achieved the effect. I would do less accordion and fewer notes in that lead. [ Reply to This ]
Rough? &mdash 03/05/08 - 10:25:33 AM
