Keywords:
davisamerica (1)fear (39)run (23)hide (6)fire (32)orch/rock (1)
Description:
Michael2 was kind enough to send me Jam Pack 4 so I set down to messing around with orchestral instruments. Meanwhile I had been listening to The National (Boxer - a great CD) and headed toward an orch/rock thing. When it came to vocals I hit a wall and asked Jack (davisamerica) if he'd give it a crack. Well he hit it out of the park in my opinion. I thought I might add some harmony - but his vocal was so perfect that all I did was tweak it a bit and rearrange some of my tracks to fit better. I'm really grateful to Jack for making something out of this experiment - and value his talent and friendship. His recent track I Though I Told You is just brilliant.

Lyrics:

can you run..........

something is lurking and following closely
her feet feel like lead and her vision is blurred
she wants to look over her shoulder but something says hurry
there's no time for words

page by page
minute by minute
seconds flow slowly
then your heart is in it
it hold you... caresses and colors your sight
it says
fear is the only thing that will keep you alive

he sits all alone in the twilight of his life
locks all secure the sun sets too soon
waiting and knowing there's some one who watches
he will not fall prey so he stays in his room

it hides in the dark and feeds if you let it
it comes when your heart has grown weary and tired
it blinds you with hatred and consumes you like fire

Fabulous &mdash 03/01/08 - 01:22:04 AM
I've been entranced by 'Boxer' since I got it last year, and this has the same dark vice. The music on this is wonderful - fabulous orchestration, especially the horns, a deep whirlpool of a track. The vocal works wonderfully with this

Very nice &mdash 03/02/08 - 04:41:12 PM
I love the instrumentation on this. The drums are perfect - great beat and sound. That guitar is nicely done, too, sparkling in the background. This is a great example of how orchestral instrumentation can really enhance a song, giving it great dynamic range and adding a whole new palette of colors. The vocal is great, Jack - great melancholy imagery and powerful dark expressiveness. This is a great collab. Outstanding. Nicely done to both of you. Peace.

holy macro &mdash 03/03/08 - 09:57:07 PM
ominous

this plays to our most ancient primitive area of the human brain - where emotion and patterns can take control of our higher faculties

the 2 against 3 works great here - like an unbalanced waltz -

it's like the Matrix - the sense of what is real vs. what is really real. whoa.

& the pic tells volumes as well

nicely done

thanks

Gee thanks Smokey &mdash 03/04/08 - 06:35:43 AM
the drum pattern was fun to work with - I replaced the original orchestral drums with a jazz 6/8 pattern and it made a big difference. Glad you dug it.

Horns On Fire &mdash 03/04/08 - 03:19:18 PM
This is great guys. The horns are big, the drums are big, Jack is big and the whole thing just gets bigger and bigger.

I truly believe that if I sent bud a brown crayon he could use it to make a song about rainbows.

You never stop bud!

I love the little change up in the middle of the track (it caught me off guard (not in a bad way though)). This was a great collaboration. It sounds sort of REMish in a subtle sort of way. Great sound bed. It looks like you are enjoying Jam Pack 4!

I'm pretty late to the party here, but I love this collab, and just about everything about how this song goes together. You're a wizard Mr. Bud (and I always get such a smile from your avatar!), and I've enjoyed everything of yours I've heard - this is no exception. Congrats to you both - thanks

Amazing doesn't cover it &mdash 03/13/08 - 10:26:20 AM
Huge, epic sound that washes broad sweeps of drama across the canvas. I shouldn't be surprised at all that you continue to surprise me, Bud - but it still feels exciting when you do!

That orchestra pack is a treasure trove of forbidden pleasures, isn't it? Those symphonic elements give this a feel that's both intimate and grand, frightening and alluring... it's like painting an image of being claustrophobic in a huge, beautiful room. There's so much here, but what it whispers of beyond is considerably more.

You and Jack cooked up a masterpiece here. Deep bow!

p.s. Five Extra Arms is right - give you a brown crayon, and there'd be a song about rainbows.
