Modern gritty pa... pa papageno &mdash 03/03/08 - 11:21:04 AM
We've enjoyed 2 live operatic performances of The Magic Flute recently, and this aria and the delight of Papageno/Papagena finally finding each other is a great part of the opera, and Mozart's tentative "pa... pa pa pa.." musical idea was perfect. Your modernization of the theme is fun. Perhaps you could have melted the original operatic part into the modern part more, but other than that, this gives a gritty industrial edge to the sound. A sort of pa.. pa pa post-apocalyptic piece.

Brilliant! &mdash 03/05/08 - 01:27:16 AM
Loved every note. And the fact you collabed with Wolfy is awesome. This even feels professional - are you playing a trick on us?

[ Reply to This ]
Haha, my man &mdash 03/05/08 - 03:01:29 AM
you know, I and Wolfy were having a drink in a pub the other day, and he went "hey, MIR, I'd like to hear that little aria of mine, the Papageno und Papagena one, you know, modernized by a very talented artist like yourself!".
What could I say? What could I do?
As to being professional... I can't but thank you for that big compliment (err... it is a compliment, isn't it?), but assure you it's all just good old Garageband, and I'm not playing tricks to my friends!

Is this "8-bit" or compressed? &mdash 03/05/08 - 04:37:01 PM
I believe the "low-fi" sound is intentional, but it's so rampant, that I'm not entirely sure. That said, I think the composition and production are great (previous comments not-with-standing). I love contemporary takes on classic music, and this is one to treasure. I keeps the timelessness of W.A. but certainly brings it into the present in an enjoyable way. And the ending was just inspired. Great stuff.

[ Reply to This ]
Yes, the "lo-fi" sound &mdash 03/06/08 - 02:44:38 AM
was intentional (I suppose you mean the leading synth on the chorus? Or maybe it was referred to my treatment of the samples...), even if it hadn't any special purpose to be like that... it just sounded right to my ear, but I understand it's a matter of taste, and I will definitely use your remark to go back and listen with a "different ear" (which is always a very good and useful thing to do, when wanting to improve, isn't it?).
Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment... uh, I feel I must say (even though I'm sure everybody already easily figured out) both the intro and outro are samples of the opera as performed by a "real" orchestra (the outro is in fact the starting of the ouverture)...

DEVO vs Kraftwerk &mdash 03/07/08 - 08:40:36 AM
This is really great. What a groove this has too. I can hear Kraftwerk performing this and the DEVO comes in with the lead synth part.

Very cool sounds and it does sound good LOUD!!

I've downloaded this one too.

Thanks MIR!

Florida's not so bad a place to have fans in! Haha, I'm glad to hear that, dude, and I suppose I too am starting to be a new fan of yours in Italy, even though I've heard only one song up to now... (I'm catching up, though...)

Don't Feel Bad If You Change Your Mind &mdash 03/07/08 - 03:10:34 PM
My songs are all over the place!! The good ones are the ones that have another person doing all the singing and dancing!

It's good that you like at least one of them. My fan base in Italy is twice as big as my fan base in Spain. I don't know anyone in Spain!

Ciao,

Roberto
