Mozart (7)
Description:
This is like the two did earlier. But I added a bunch of instrumentation and tried to obtain a bit more lower end in the acoustical guitar through Logic 8. Plus much more.

It always amazes me &mdash 03/02/08 - 08:14:33 PM
how you can manage to get such a pristine sound quality on everything you do Bill. And it's not like you're picking out simple things to do. Oh no, not out tiler, he picks out the good stuff like Mozart and Beethoven, and the likes.

Well this is just fantastic Bill, Kudos to you my friend. Thank you for layin' this one on us.

Hey - That's my ringtone &mdash 03/02/08 - 08:47:06 PM
I've used symphony 40 as my ringtone for the last couple of years. This sounds a lot better than that.
This is a really novel setting of the symphony. There are a couple of places that the strings overshadow the guitar while the guitar is playing the melody, but otherwise, a really fine job of envisioning (enhearing?) a new way to play a 200 year old piece of music, and then realizing it so that the rest of us can hear it, too.

Another good one Bill &mdash 03/03/08 - 01:16:15 AM
The guitar playing is as good as ever Bill, but I'm finding the strings to be a little out of place - mainly rhythmically, but also as far as volume and swell movement goes. It sounds like you have the strings quantised too much so that there are slightly off-beat guitar notes (I mean that in a good way) which jar against quantised string notes. I'd love to hear someone like alfalpha or dirigent or one of the other great arrangers have a crack at the string arrangement for this guitar piece.

Your guitar playing is one of the seven wonders of the MJ world (not sure what the other 6 are yet), and this track does nothing to change that.
Cheers,
Neil

Exquisite arrangement &mdash 03/03/08 - 11:37:40 AM
Bill, super re-arrangement of this wonderful bit of Mozart... You've written your own "Guitar Suite", an impressive accomplishment by itself... but then you are also an awesome guitar player, and pull this off brilliantly. I agree with Neil about the strings sometimes lagging slightly, there are tricks to fix that (just nudge the strings forward a bit, sometimes works.) But the rewrite works, a nice "new" piece from you!

Drakonis

To be honest &mdash 03/03/08 - 12:46:51 PM
i've went over this tons of times. And there is only one spot that I debated it in my mind whether to make it an echoey feel or a right on with the cello and guitar. That is at 13 seconds, not a lucky number I guess:) I covered it with a cello sound but then I debated to make it an echoey feel. I knew that section very well, but I originally recorded it and lost all my original .band files. I went all over my computer to find it and couldn't. I scoured my computer. But when I went to Comp USA which is going out of business in our area. I think they lost my original .band file for the tune,. It would of made it much easier to change. And Indeed I covered that section with cello sounds. But somehow it didn't in some of the later files I saved. I think when working in .mp3 and aif you can really get weaker sounds. But anyway, I could easily go and do it again. But then I don't want to offend those that commented and upload another active tune just for one note.

I am only aware of that one section at 13, but not another. I only had an .mp3 to work with. It would be great to have the original ,.band file that the original cello is located on. But now it is only mp3 and I have to over lay the high 1st string sound with the cello. Which I took great pains to do, but just was a struggle.

I am considering doing a classical guitar version, and orchestrating with the same style. I love working with mozarts 40 cause it is so melodic-al.

In this case it wouldn't be pushing the cello forward, it would be pushing it back about a fraction of a second. Again being on an .mp3 file mixed with the other original instrumentation would be impossible to do.

Thanks for the input

Seriously, this is really amazing. It's a beautiful reworking of the original. Your playing never ceases to amaze me. It always sounds so effortless. The strings were a nice touch and really added to the sound.

I enjoyed it throughly.

...What they said. My wife and I listened to this last night and both of us had the same reaction: what great guitar playing; what an interesting concept. You really outdid yourself with this arrangement. I was poised to not like it because, well, how do you improve on Mozart. But then your creative take on the theme just burrowed in and I was completely taken with your cleverness and the beauty of your arrangement. Superb work in every way. What a joy to hear such creativity and such masterful use of all the digital and live instruments so harmoniously interwoven. Just beautiful work.
Peace.
