I'm a bigger fan than ever since you've been singing. I just love your voice... and then to be able to play piano like that is wonderful. Added to that, is that you can write lyrics and melodies like these as well. What a great song and yes.... we have been there. Did I say this was beautifully sung???, regards M

Thank you my friend. You are always too kind to me. Thank you for always being supportive and making me feel on top of the world. I have no clue why I wanted to write a sad song for a change.... I guess I just felt that I was supposed to?? Who knows. Thanks again.

Nice song &mdash 03/03/08 - 05:54:26 PM
I would love to hear the cellos bigger and bolder and maybe a different more flattering reverb on your lovely voice

Thanks to Drakonis for plugging it in the chat room...

I am still learning how to work this recorded that I have and I just can't seem to get it right alot of the time. I especially mess up on the reverb....Geez, I am trying! LOL Every day I try something else. This also sounds different now that I took my headphones off. Oh well....thanks for listening. Appreciate the comments.

Yikes! &mdash 03/03/08 - 06:02:17 PM
Talk about a HeartSong of a different kind... gorgeous song and playing as usual (what is it you always say to Paul Page... "I'm waiting for you to write a BAD one")... lyrics are poignant and with this slow pacing, really draws out the sorrow, and the heaviness of trying to pick up and move on. Glad to hear this is not a recent memory to draw from! Excellent singing, though the recording of voice is ever-so-slightly muffled, but not too bad, I can still hear your words clearly. Boy, now I have to go huddle in the corner and cry for a minute.
ttfn,
Drakonis

No crying allowed. No it was not about me...but it is life, right? You are such a great fan and terrific friend. You always come through for me like a knight in shining armor! Or a dragon with scaly skin? Whichever way, the point is you are awesome. Glad you liked this Eduard. Thank you for listening and for being you!

Beautiful! Thanks for the mood! No really! While we've all been there I'd rather not go back but in this song you make it pleasurable.

As posted above please keep singing! You have a beautiful voice! Piano is great too! No not great but wonderful!

Sad song... &mdash 03/03/08 - 06:43:19 PM
...nicely folded into d minor. Great piano playing, Gail. It supports you perfectly. I echo the comment above about the reverb on your voice, wishing YOU were a little more FORWARD in the mix. I had trouble understanding the lyrics (maybe because I am losing my hearing!) and wished that I could read them. But the composition itself and your particular styling of the performance are a real pleasure to hear. ... And now you are compelling me to post a sad number myself. Maybe this is the aftermath of the Valentine's love songs.
Peace.
Paul

Hello Paul &mdash 03/03/08 - 08:31:30 PM
My favorite pianist of all! Thanks my friend for coming by and sorry about the muffling...I am still working on getting things right. I sure don't want to start a trend of sadness.....yuck. I would much rather focus on the final of the song where there is hope for the person to survive on their own. We each should feel that way, whether we "want" to or not. Right? Right. Okay enough about me...Looking forward to your next Happy song!! Thanks Paul!

Sad, but not :-) &mdash 03/03/08 - 10:20:25 PM
Gail, this is such a good song! The piano and your voice sound great together, and it has hope in it, even though the lady has had her heart broken. She's a survivor and will triumph again. So pretty...:-)

Nice one Gail! &mdash 03/04/08 - 02:01:56 AM
Now that you're out of the vocal closet it's time to turn up the volume on your voice, and maybe cut the reverb so that your voice is up front and clear, where it should be. Your voice is sounding really good, so why hide behind the piano player - well, figuratively speaking of course :)

Good song, reminiscent of Carole King - and she did OK.

Cheers,
Neil

Yes I finally came out of the closet....Has not been as bad as I imagined. :) Everyone here is so nice and supportive. It made my transition a lot easier. I am no pro at recording...actually very, very far from it...but I am trying to get better at it. I ask for patience and hope no one gives up on me. :) That includes you. Thanks for coming by, glad you like the song.

Hello Bob &mdash 03/04/08 - 04:07:50 PM
Yes this was quite the day for depressing songs was it not?? LOL I had no idea I would cause a firestorm of sadness. I am blessed and not sad. This was just a song. Nothing more. No hidden meanings here. But the important part to me was that no matter what the situation is...there is always hope. Always. At least in my mind there is. :)Thanks for listening and glad you liked this one.

the depth of the writing and performance is great. Your vocal range really handles this like a power ballad - it perhaps could be a little more clear and upfront, though the vocal effect could be what you intended as well.

This is a wonderful song and you sing it beautifully, but the part I like best is you superb piano playing. You add dynamics and accents in just the right places and smoothly play through all moving lines.

Thanks

I am happy you liked it. I appreciate the kind comments and find it interesting about the piano comment. I wish I really "could" play. I make stuff up, but I cannot play worth a flip with a sheet of music in front of me. I have a lot to learn. If only I had paid better attention when I was 4! :)
Thanks for the visit Bill!

I really like this song. But I do wish your voice was more forward in the mix. I would really like to hear less reverb as well. You have a very nice voice and I kind of loose it in all the verb.

I think the piano supports your voice really well, and I really like the changes.

Sometimes... &mdash 04/05/08 - 01:45:49 PM
When you least expect it inexperience can add to the over all feel of a piece. This is beautiful and should be left as is. It has a feel and color (production wise) that actually adds to the over all appeal of the piece. I love this song and the way it sounds and makes me feel when I hear it. It has a Cowboy Junkies feel to it. I am referring to their second album recorded with one mic in the Holy Trinity church in Toronto. Gail this is an outstanding piece of art. Having no preconceived ideas about how to record is sometimes a blessing and this song proves that.
