Tracks &mdash 03/04/08 - 07:46:50 AM
Firstly only three tracks - one for each voice.
I actually worked with six tracks because I use a de-esser which seperates vowels and consonants, so I have the vowels on one track and the consonants on the other track.
The choir-effect is due to spacedesigner-reverb and some stereo-spreading ... [ Reply to This ]
Terrific &mdash 03/04/08 - 08:08:53 AM
great addition to mj. The singing is stands out in a very nice way. Great slant in the more modern percussion and bass as well.

Wonderful singing Andreas. That bass shouldn't work, but it does! It's a kind of choiral groove thing (if that exists?) Very enjoyable listen, thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]
Vocal Setting &mdash 03/04/08 - 03:28:36 PM
I like the vocal setting a lot. And the bass and percussion work well to "modernize" the sound. I would like to hear a version without the organ and xylophone leads... maybe addition by subtraction.
Thanks

Very clear mix! I like when you focus on the foil between the sacred and profane; art music and populist elements. It's a rare talent that can mesh the two seemingly disparate elements together succesfully. Yet, you do it--time and again! [ Reply to This ]

Having grown up... &mdash 03/04/08 - 10:43:09 PM
...on the "original" from the Liber Usualis, I found your rendition to be arresting, but not unappealing. I am fascinated by your recording perspective, dividing the vowels and consonants. I have no idea how one would actually DO that, but the result is haunting. I am personally not drawn to the bass in this recording as I think it overpowers the vocal lines and is so uncharacteristic of the rest of the music here. But I am nevertheless really "taken" by the solemnity of this arrangement and find it to be absolutely compelling. It is just wonderful to be hearing some serious vocal music here.
Peace.

this is a wonderful song. love choral music and you used it to great effect with all of the more modern touches. i really like this very much. have you heard the Brian Eno stuff from Bath? He played with a legitimate choir and used a laptop to manipulate and add to what they were doing (live). i think this is one of the more interesting things I have heard lately. great job. 1460's that is...
This is really crazy inventive. I'm surprised and impressed that someone with your obvious talent is daring enough to explore beyond the safety and comfort of a conventional treatment.
This is really brilliant stuff. Please continue to explore because this is where it's at man. You're really creating some notable work and I applaud your efforts.

Your ear must be tuned perfectly to 440.... Maaan..
I guess knowing how to hook notes Harmonically makes a difference.
The instruments put an edge on it, that pulls it out of the doldrums,
of Yesterday into Today.... Tomorrows.. another story.

beautiful painting and beautiful music. I like the mixture of classic and contemporary nice bass line. Sounds almost improvised. The very low drum synth? in the background ties it together nicely. Enjoyed thanks [ Reply to This ]
