Description:
This was recorded in 1 take with a broken guitar (my first guitar ever). All done using Mac hardware and software.
To me, this song sounds like a culmination, an ending...I don't know.
I had a friend tease me for the obvious Radiohead influences. As a joke I added the stock applause until I get some of my own :D
Other than that, I think the song stands on its own.
Thanks for listening.
***Some of the lyrics are still under revision. ***
Lyrics:
Even though,
it feels as if I had lost a thousand wars.
I can't help, but think and retreat in the words that only I know.
I can hear the dawn as it sings for me.
If I could hear that laughter again, for me.
My bitterness and angst would disappear at the blink of an eye.
Everything would be just alright for a while.
Not a minute more, nor second less
Enlighten my afternoons.
Just a careful touch, an empty space
to subtly celebrate you.
just be careful I'm not wasting on my own.
Hardware:
macbook
Macbook mic
Gamboa acoustic guitar
Software:
Garageband

welcome... &mdash 03/04/08 - 11:11:04 PM
Hey, pretty darned good for a broken guitar... strums out some nice broken chords. :-) I like the song, good melody over the top... stretches your vocal range, but you seem to handle that really well, good singing. Now for you to start doing the guitar and vocal parts in different takes, and start editing with Garageband... the fun begins. Welcome to this fun place called Macjams!

Thank you so much. I don't know about you guys, I'm sure it happens to all of us. I get very anxious to hear the final product. This was the case with this song, that's why I kind of rushed in to it.

wow. Thank you. &mdash 03/05/08 - 03:57:44 PM
Thank you for your kind comment. I put a lot of heart in to the melody since the song structure was so simplistic. [ Reply to This ]

great song with a great vocal. definite radiohead influence there, but not at all blatent. Especially like the building bits in the breakdown. great, great song. what a voice! would love to hear a full band version. [ Reply to This ]
might as well borrow from the best &mdash 03/05/08 - 04:27:24 PM
I considered adding the full instrumentation to this song but I'm a terrible drummer (even on keyboard) so I decided to spare this song until I can get someone to help me out.
Thanks for the kind comments, I'm looking forward to hearing some more of your stuff. [ Reply to This ]
Fine Piece &mdash 03/05/08 - 01:38:32 PM
Broken guitar and minimal gear cannot hamper a well written song.Your unplugged rendition is mighty fine and I can only imagine the strength of a full band version.Well done on all fronts and very much enjoyed.

great song &mdash 03/05/08 - 10:36:12 PM
You have a great voice man! This is a very well written song. I guess I hear the radiohead influence but if you didn't mention it I wouldn't have even thought about it. As far as drums go I can't play for the life of me either but Drums on Demand has worked for my stuff. Check it out if you decide to do a full band sound.

Drums... &mdash 03/07/08 - 10:30:55 AM
Thanks for the comment. I really love playing this song.
Yeah drums are always the caveat. It's true what they say, 20% of the hob takes 80% of the effort. I usually just mix drum patterns and add a few minor details here and there.
I'll look into your suggestion though! [ Reply to This ]
Nice &mdash 04/24/08 - 01:51:39 PM
I really like the melody. I hear more Pearl Jam than Radiohead though. I saw your post about looking for a drummer. Check out my latest song "Change" and let me know if you like the drum sound. It's an acoustic set so there won't be much variation to the sound and the drums are not set up in a professional recording space but it gets the job done. I really like acoustic based songs and the chord progression and lyrics are really nice!

thanks &mdash 05/05/08 - 06:46:17 PM
Thanks for listening.
I'm really interested in starting a full-on project. It's kind of tough to find a drummer here in the city.
I would love to work with your beats some time. "change" sounds awesome.

I can dig it! &mdash 04/24/08 - 02:05:37 PM
I hear the Radiohead influence mainly in the chord progression, but not really anywhere else. This is a well written song, and the minmalist stylings suit it well. Great voice as well!

Thanks Pete &mdash 05/05/08 - 06:51:29 PM
To be honest, I wasn't quite sure what approach to give this song. I wrote this on my acoustic and it went very well. I'd like to try a full band version, but I'm afraid it might draw from the intimacy.
I really appreciate your compliments. Thank you. [ Reply to This ]
Beginnings &mdash 04/24/08 - 04:57:23 PM
I like the simplicity of this song a lot, but I think the vocals lose something when the guitar crescendos and washes out your voice. You should look into getting a small 2-4 track mixer and a decent microphone for your voice and guitar. Then I think you'd be set up.
Also, it's not the guitar that makes pretty sounds. I spent twelve years on a $100 guitar until it's nut finally fell off. It's all about how someone plays it, I think.
Nice work,

completely right &mdash 05/05/08 - 07:01:51 PM
technically, this is not the ideal recording scenario. I did this in one take and recorded it all through my mac's built-in mic. This, done out of being plain lazy since I could've tried and plug my mic and other stuff in properly.
I was considering getting a mic specifically for my guitar, but I went out and got an electroacoustic instead! I'm not sure how that will sound on tape, I might end up getting the mic anyway.
I really appreciate your input. Thanks for the kind comments and thanks for listening! [ Reply to This ]
This is a good song &mdash 04/27/08 - 02:52:53 PM
and that, my friend, is all you need. Once you have that, everything else can be worked on and improved and tweaked and all that. I would love to hear you expand this into something with a couple more tracks. But it also sounds very cool as it is. Nicely done. I look forward to hearing more from you soon. Peace. THank you so much, that means a lot to me.
There's a lot of emotion in this song and I really love playing it. I'm honestly flattered that you liked it as well.
I'll try to upload some more stuff. I just finished a new song this weekend.
