Song Description

one rainy day

Lyrics:
This Old Cup

the handle on this cup is old
it looks old

the plating is worn off
there's small dents and scrapes
not just on the handle
but all over the surface of the cup

it looks old and worn out

but there are no holes in this cup
it still holds water just fine

so why should it be replaced?
it's still functional...
still in service.

this old cup

OK, Bill... &mdash 03/05/08 - 09:18:14 PM
I looked at the cup all during the dialog. First, I felt better about all the mismatched cups and plates in my kitchen cupboard. Then I began to wonder if this was really an analogy about old people and how society sees them as worthless. The rain made my thoughts wander to..to... WHA? OK, the ending shocked me. So much for looking forward to being old. lol

didn't mean to shock or dismay.
sometimes a cup is just a cup! :)

You sound like David Cronenberg on this! Feels like I've been flushed away in the flood ...

Another level &mdash 03/06/08 - 08:43:06 AM
what was weird is that I had a weird scratchy noise running all the way through that I thought was part of the track and it wasn't until it finished I realised it was a fault on my mixing desk....

Strangely compelling nonetheless

Cheers

Dick

Amazing Imagery. &mdash 03/10/08 - 11:02:06 PM

Hi Bill.
For one thing it looks like an aluminum mug that is rusting away to my eyes However what I got out of this great poem of yours.--- was the following
from the dilect was the great imagery and your voice mesmerised me. I loved hearing it. lol
the water sounds.
the kitchen sink,
the rain outside,
the draining of the water down the sink,
the filling up of water in the mug,

It would have been nice also to hear the tinkling droplets of rain
splashing into the cup. if it was outside. if you know what I mean.
At least you did not say to drink tea in. ha ha

Well done it was really great. loved it
Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic poem of yours.

thanks for your comment.

yes, water played a big part in this, i'm not quite sure how it all ties together with the words myself. i like the idea of adding the sound of actually adding water to the cup, either by the rainfall, or by pouring it into the cup. interesting.
