Swinging joyous bassist... &mdash 03/06/08 - 05:55:19 AM
Funny description... heheh

Fran- I love this version. As I told you there are a lot of pleasant things happening here... the subtle acoustic guitar that's adding warmth, those cool little harmonics I hear every once in a while, the pseudo slide (tell us again how you did that). As mentioned the Bishops sound very tight... there's a section where Fran is rolling up with the snare and a tom (at 4:45ish) that is extremely cool.

Looking for to seeing you guys play this tomorrow.

tone, phrasing. You guys play amazingly well together.Great solo-don't know if you improvised the whole thing but you've got some really nice licks in there.

pretty much &mdash 03/06/08 - 10:24:30 AM
a totally improvised solo...i have a "melody" that i repeat here and there, but this never is done the same way twice. Most of my stuff is that way, actually. my things have a melody line which is the theme for the improv...so that gives character and form to the improv which i can sorta duplicate from play to play...

improvisation is my biggest thrill playing. i love it!

McBoy-- &mdash 03/06/08 - 10:16:27 AM
the advice you gave regarding mic placement was really spot-on...the assigned tracks for snare and bass drum and rearrangement of the sm-57s really did the trick.

you are a treasured resource for inspiration/information!!

This has a Jeff Beck fusion kind of feel. Great guitar and tight band.

McBoy got there first... &mdash 03/07/08 - 06:59:03 AM
...about the drums... What I noticed first was that the bass drum and snare are more present than in previous recordings of yours... And nicely locked to the bass...

The recording is nicely tight and balanced.

I really love some of the trills that you play throughout this, starting right from the opening phrases... And that ghost of acoustic all through it...

Nice...

Ed

What a treat &mdash 03/07/08 - 03:27:10 PM
Sheer joy to enjoy!

Make-me-feel-real-good-music!

And it's growing better and better as it goes.
The last minutes is just so inventive, so living!
I don't hesitate to say world class. If I'd hear something like this on the radio I'd stop my doings and just listen, then I'd wait to hear; who was that!?!

Again! Lovely playing all round Fran #1, Fran #2 and Bryan. Everything sounds really well recorded also.
Fran B's rim work at the end is lovely. Amazing guitar Fran D!

You really &mdash 03/11/08 - 12:27:08 AM
are good. And this is a great example. The guys with you are right in sync. I think I would have had the snare a little chrisper, sharper in tone, but as is works. Great Santana like riffs, all so very Florida in the middle of a new england winter. Man your band is really cool.

How the heck did I miss this? I just got in the mood to be ziti-fied, so went to your page for some listens, and here was this song I hadn't heard yet. This is, as usual, spectacular. I just can't imagine how you're doing what you're doing. Your whole band is so exellent - thanks for your great music Fran!
