World Above (Blue Leaf Waltz)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I had to do the drums myself on this one, you know cutting and splicing. I don't have any 3/4 beats so I have to make them. Just something basic.

Anyway, I have had this song sitting around for a while and I tinkered with it today. Hope it sounds good.

The song: Written on an airplane somewhere over the Atlantic, just daydreaming really.
I just wanted the instruments to set the mood and not be too busy. I want the vocals to be atmospheric and a bit trippy.
Hope you enjoy and comment if you wish.
Thanks for stopping by.

Lyrics
World Above

From this world above it seems surreal
Shutting the door, I feel the chill

Cobwebs and dust cover my shoes
What can I do?

It used to be so weird and I often feared
The things that I saw in the rain

Like the stormy sea
It's just a part of me

Carpets and buckets, a fist full of diamonds
The tears of a romance, let's leave it behind us
The things that I think of are considered insane

Asphalt and peaches and bunches of blue leaves
And sirens and aspirin, there's nothing up my sleeve
But when you look close, they come out of the rain

Cobwebs and dust cover my shoes
What can I do?

This is
Dave, my favourite lavalamp song. I really love it - especially your insane high singing. Definite less is more. Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers

Really Len?
A friend of mine always says more is less regarding my tunes. I shy to sing that's why I'll tend to over-produce, if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the support, Len.
Have a nice Sunday friend.

Love it! Makes me think about how I feel sometimes in airports! Don't know why... Perhaps just your comment on the airplane ride.

great!
lots of attitude here. reminds me of the last 3/4 Floyd's The Trial, one of my faves from The Wall. HOWEVER, enough of you in there to make it completely your own. One of my favorites of yours so far. Great job Dave. Gotta go press play again :)

No metronome
That's why I left the count-in in the song. Glad the drummer passed the audition.
Thank for always stopping by, Vic.

You have such a great
way with words, man. ("carpets and buckets, a fist full of diamonds" - great imagery) and the vibe you bring to your vocal is unique. A dark burlesque, indeed. This is very cool. I'm swaying from side to side, and nodding my head. What can I do? Nice one, my friend. Peace.

Special thanks to you
A special thanks for commenting on the lyrics. I think sometimes people don't listen to them, when it's very important to me. For the most part of song writing, the words come the easiest for me.

Thanks friend,
Dave

Really cool!
Dave, could it be, is that the voice of Mick Jagger doing backup vocal? It does have the hint of Stones about it. Very good. Extra marks for the 3/4 time signature. It creates a really unusual feel.
Keep on,
Stephen

Respect for 3/4
3/4 time is like playing a guitar left handed there always something offsetting about it but the results usually surprise, very creative song, reminds of the occasional aquatic themes of Jim Morrison and the doors and has a touch of Sgts Peppers, heh cool song

Sgt. Lamp
TW, thanks for the compliments. The only real hard thing for to was the drums, regarding a 3/4 song. I have quite a fey in 6/8 or 3/4 time. Just no loops. I'm sure there's some place I could download them, though.

Thanks Tom

this is a really great track. it's all been said: great use of waltz time, the backing vocals adding so much character, the great lyrics, and the slightly Floyd feel. but let me be the first to say it this way: I friggin love this song.

I wish I could have more drum loops in 3/4. I have quite a few I have written in that, and other, time signatures.

Love seeing a new face visiting one of my songs.
