collab w/rschletty. this started out with some moog & other synth loops by fumitaka anzai, a japanese composer. alimar taught schletty to work the pitchblend tool & "my asparagus" was born (see my list of faves). i guess my version is sort of an extended remix.. as always, comments & suggestions are welcome.

for my cousin jason

Hardware:
G5, TiBook

Software:
GB, buzzer2, iDrum demo, loops by fumitaka anzai.. thanks rich

What's with the asparagus theme? &mdash 09/30/04 - 01:55:09 PM
By way of further explanation, Fumitaka Anzai's song, which provided the inspiration for "My Asparagus", is called Asperges Me (Latin for "wash me"). Anzai's MJ name is ANZ -- http://www.macjams.com/song/song_profile.php?lid=1788. I just tried his Asperges Me song link and it doesn't work. Admin, what's up? You can listen to Asperges Me at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/anzai .

I have bathed myself in _nderscore's extended remix and I approve of it (as any good politician would). I will refrain from voting but I will say his mix is really well done. I'll have to take a look at Buzzer2. Never heard of it.

"Bend me, shape me, anyway you want to..." Who sang that, trivia buffs?

Space and Time &mdash 09/30/04 - 02:27:01 PM
Quite an aural experience you've created here! The swelling synths are quite lush. The percussion is very delicate, complex, extremely well-balanced, and pans around in a manner that adds motion and interest to the piece. The composition is a nice steady balance of slow progressions, fat bass interludes, and the aforementioned excellent percussive backing. Very impressive, very professional. (7-9-8-8) ...highest marks for the percussive details!

Thanks for your comments. I really wasn't sure about what I had started but
_underscore ran with it and made it a more complete experience.

Classic...timeless quality &mdash 09/30/04 - 10:11:52 PM
This piece sounds like a classic. It really evokes the
beginning of the genre...Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno,
Kraftwerk, and others...it feels timeless. This is the
only piece on MacJams that I have given all 10s so
far. (Of course, really liking this type of music
helps...) Not only is it technically put together well,
but it is memorable, affecting and creative.
_nderscore, you have given this work just what it
needed.

Go for it, Gudkarma! I wouldn't know what to sing for this. It's not often that
I'm voiceless. I come up with lyrics listening to lawn mowers, rubber tires on
the road, or even nightfall crickets.

whoa! &mdash 10/01/04 - 05:47:34 PM
thanks for all the positive comments folks. my tunes don't
usually get this sort of attention.. must be that schletty
guy!

i would like to say that this one was fun, but i spent twice
as long 'remastering' the song than actually making it.
first it sounded horrible on headphones.. then terrible on
speakers. well, i think i finally found a sweet spot-please
let me know if you think otherwise. this was
definitely something i needed to learn. seriously, i must
have gone thru at least 50 versions of tweaks &/or
rebuilds.. then the iDrum demo ran out, but that's another
story. guess, it's a good thing i loved schletty's song so
much, i've prolly heard it a couple hundred times! 8)

hey karma-if you're serious about vox, let me know & i'll
shoot you the GB file

whoa! &mdash 10/02/04 - 11:13:52 AM
Shucks, _score, don't give me too much credit. It was Fumitaka Anzai's loops
that were the genesis for the song. You all have to give him a listen. I bought
two of his CDs from cdbaby.com. That's how stunned I was by his analog
compositions which do a lot of genre blending (moog+The Latin Mass). His
Canto Cybernetico is overpowering and has some real surprises. Check out
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/anzai and http://www.anz123.com/English/
index.html (especially his studio photos which put all of us MacJammers to
shame). Gudkarma, listen to Offertorium <http://audio.cdbaby.com/rama/
anzai-09.ram> and Sanctus <http://audio.cdbaby.com/rama/anzai-06.ram>
and you'll have your daily inspiration!

D'oh! "It sounds ..."

I've enjoyed what I would call atmospheric music for years - eno, laswell, coil,
non, scorn, namlook, solaris, lull (esp. lull in this case) come to mind. This is
exellent.

Very good mix, tight fat sound, kind of brings me right
back to the times of "Radioactivity"...but with a new, fresh
approach.

From a dark corner I strike... &mdash 11/12/04 - 07:50:36 PM
Um, that was absolutely odd. ; )

It was like listening to a Leaether Strip bass line with
happy pitch bendy leads and a hypnotic percussion track.

I think I need more sleep. Yeay!

P.S. I want that bass sound. Gimme gimme...

P.P.S. Have you ever listened to Urceus Exit? This really
reminds me of some of their work.

Good pitchbending. Makes me want to work on
something of my own using pitch bend.

I can definitely hear the japanese style, which is cool, I
love it.

the pitchblend tool is pretty nifty. i got into it a little more on 'spiritMasheen'.
i think with enough time, you could 'play' it like an instrument-try it out when
you get GB

Yummy &mdash 02/23/05 - 10:41:08 AM
Crit: Title is clever, but silly, and in my opinion
doesn't fit.

Crit: Opening is weak in comparison to the rest. Once the
synth stuff starts it picks up, and comparing the drum
opening to the drums later....

Praise: Can think of a dozen artists this song wouldn't
seem out of place on the disc.

Praise: Sounded good on a range of listening devices.
iPod, iPod shuffle, G5 speaker, and car stereo.

comment-i am trying to mix up the percussion a little more on some of my
current batch of noises. thanks a bunch for the listen

Hey, I love this one--feels like some 80's movie theme (underscore?;).
Love that chunky Moog bass that starts the track off. Has a very
genuine 80's synth score vibe that really brought me back (in a nice
way). Definite DL.:)
