Description
Solo acoustic instrumental. The title refers to the fact hat it's palyed in an open tuning used by the English guitarist/song writer Nick Drake. Though not a Waltz really, it's in 3/4 time so Drakes's Waltz it is! Drake died tragically young in the early seventies having recored just 3 studio albums. If you've never heard him you should give him a listen (you'll either love it or hate it).

Hi Fetter
It is true that Drake wasn't to everyone's taste but I like his wierd tunnings even if they do cause you to spend a fortune replacing broken strings. Your opinion is highly regarded on Macjams so I'm realy pleased you found time to listen to this post and leave a nice comment. Thanks and all the best to you.

Always great to hear a nice
waltz on the acoustic guitar. Nice sound all around. Full of terrific celtic type melody. Done delicately, enjoyed those last descending chords up to then end.

Way to go!

Nick Drake
Hi Bill,
If you want to listen to Nick Drake for free go to http://www.brytermusic.com/ In the top right corner you can skip through a few of his recordings. Cello Song and Nothern Sky are perhaps the most representative of his. There's also a link to iTunes on this page if you want to listen/buy any more of his stuff.

Ahhh... yes...
Sad songs... I've heard_"Fly, Pink Moon, and Time of No Reply._ Nice memory waltz to the man who just couldn't seem to fit in. I'm glad your tribute song was very nostalgic, but nod sad, which is a good thing. :-)

Thanks Roxylee
Thanks for listening. The sad thing about Nick Drake was he was depressed at his lack of recognition. Ironically, his music is the backdrop for all sorts of TV and film work nowadays and his albums sell like never before. Maybe he was just before his time.

You play...
...beautifully. So much so that it's not noticed. The music speaks beyond the player. GREAT sound from that Gibson.

Thanks
Thanks for your very generous comments. Listening back to this now, I think there's a tunning problem. The 5th A string is down to an E and I think it's messing with the intonation. With hindsight I think I'll have another go at it.

Well - this is the first song of yours I've listened to and I was instantly drawn here by the title wondering if it was anything to do with Nick Drake, and I ain't been dissapointed - what clarity you find in the strings, lovely recording and inspiring on this sunny morning up a certain creek where I tend to have been residing just recently.

Dunno if you sing (will check out your other stuff) but I'd be quite interested in singing over any of your Drakish stuff - just a vague idea of course - regards Rich

Hi Rich, thanks for taking the time to listen here. Your comments are much appreciated (all the more so since I've listened to your material and you clearly know what you are doing!). I do try and do a bit of singing but most often I think it's best if I keep quiet. If you can add anything vocally (or instrumentally) to this I would be delighted.
All the best
Steve

Beautiful piece of music
The guitar sounds wonderful, great tone, and your playing is outstanding as ever. I love that tuning, and the sweet, almost melancholy vibe that comes off it. magic fingers, my friend. It took me a while, but I eventually got here! Nicely done. Peace.

It may be Nick's tuning...
...but you take it in a different direction than Drake country... Perfectly lovely, and a little more optimistic in tone than Nick Drake's stuff... Which I've loved since college, a long time ago... I also love 3/4 time, so there we are...

Love playing acoustic guitar especially in open tunings (CFCFCF being my favourite). Every so often I’ll have a go with my electric guitar and even more rarely try to sing. Collaborations: Glen Byre (Celtic) with Seathatch who really enhanced ... [see more]
