Description:
This song has been around for a while, but I could never get it to mix well. I think I am pretty much there with my new Logic skills, its sounding pretty nice. As always feedback is appreciated, especially on the mix.

Lyrics:
Ascent of Memory

Why now this feeling?
Visions of loving
Breathing your jasmine
Memories recovering
Your perfume is with me
It rests in my hand
A gift from a stranger
That makes its demands

I’ve never looked back
Over my shoulder
Dreams I must follow
Can’t leave them to molder
Planes I have boarded
And borders I’ve crossed
Searching for something
Without knowing I’m lost

Can I turn around?
Can I hold my ground?
Can I face the dangers of the past?
Can the present hold me fast?
Bonds may stretch but never break
As time pulls them along
Memory is so seductive
Calls out like a siren’s song

Details and fragments
A puzzle unfinished
Every last spark
Glows undiminished
What do last words mean?
They’re poems left playing
On an answering machine
Talking without saying
Anything

Depeche Mode &mdash 03/10/08 - 08:02:39 PM
Reminds me of DP not so much the singing but the song in general, but the chorus changes that quickly, cool song!

I often think the songs Chris and I do sound a bit like Depeche Mode, I'm not sure why, but they seem to have a similar melancholy to them.

great tune, nicely and spaciously mixed. guitars and vocals come through nice and clear.

the only thing that strikes me, is that the drums are a bit hidden, maybe that's how you prefered them. But since you are using Logic, I have found using the adaptive limiter really useful on drums without having to boost the compression which can flatten them.

all in all a great track!!

Adaptive Limiter &mdash 03/13/08 - 01:46:43 PM
I've messed around with the adaptive limiter quite a bit, at first I thought it was the miracle tool but what I started to notice is that is really made the recordings kinda flat, overall just dull. I've since started cutting back on my use of it. Right now I'm experimenting with chaining it, but with this track I still think its a little flat, and you are right, the drums could come up a bit.
