i would add a little tape echo to the piano. there are three notes equally spaced (sounds like triplets?) have the echo delay match that interval. that way the three notes continue on and fade away on that pattern. why? i dunno - it would be more hypnotic that way perhaps?
as for length, that's about right for an ambient piece.
but i might either pace the transitions a little faster (just a bit) - or else stretch out the fade-ins and fade-outs so there are much broader swaths of gradually changing mixtures... but that's just me.
if you go for faster transitions you'll either need to develop some more material, or else reuse a part, which might actually hold the song together more tightly (the listener will recognize when it comes back, which is good, but it also means you may need to switch it up a little so it's not exactly the same thing the second time).
the flute-like during 6:00 is nice, but i would make it louder, and possibly add a hint of some sort of simple rhythm - maybe a distant closed high hat or something.
i would also end it by bringing back the original piano setting, again by gradually fading it in. but again, that's just me. i like to tie up a song with a signal that it's the end. recapitulating the beginning is a nice way to do it. but there's a million ways.
don't get me wrong, this is very nice as is. just some ideas...
thanks!
