Keywords:
Hi (1)this is an Oasis rip-off if I've ever heard one (1)
Description:
Another Ex-Kings song that was balls out live, but just never worked on record. We never really were able to pin down why this didn't work on record, and we never tried to record it again. The one thing that I'm proud of is the vocals on the bridge.

This was a collaboration between the drummer, Keith, and I. I wrote the music for the bridge and half the lyrics while Keith wrote the other half of the lyrics and the original verse and chorus.

We wrote this song about our booking agent who was the slimiest chick ever. It was amazing to watch her steal money from us, lie, and justify it all. We eventually dropped her but there were a few shows we did that we opened with this song and would watch her do her fake "I'm so in to this song" dance. It's about you, retard. Stop dancing.

Lyrics:
Shine © 2007

I don't know what you've been told
All your life in search of gold
Let go let go
A hand that feeds is a hand that bleeds
Educated, selfless needs
Let go let go.

Turn some water in to wine.
Break from the fake and make yourself shine.

All this talking brings me down
People talk but just make sound
Let go. Let go.
Don't waste time with parasites
Push them back and break all ties
Let go let go

Turn some water in to wine.
Break from the fake and make yourself shine.

Shine, etc.

Turn some water in to wine.
Break from the fake and make yourself shine.

I guess we just always knew it needed tweaking. It's good to know it's not as bare as it sounds when we listen to it. Thanks for the listen!

song here man. I love the guitar sound and the main riff has some edge. It's a well written song and sounds good to me on record but I can also see how it would sound better live.
Good work

It was always the opener. It's weird how some songs just work better live no matter what you do in the studio.

Every now and then it's good to just go for a simple but effective rocker. Glad you liked it.

i love this. this is a really incredible riff rock song. it's like the stooges in a way, not at all oasis for me. i could really see this done in a spacemen 3 setting (super fuzz, tremolo on the chorus...). like it a lot.

That's wild... it's been a while since I played them. I always felt like we should have been paying royalties to Oasis for that song, I never went a hipper route. Good call, though.

She was the most annoying lady ever. She was convinced she was part of "the industry". Come on lady, We're a nobody band playing for nobody for nothing... and you're still stealing from us.

She won't ever get it. It sucks that she's one of thousands of those types out there. That's probably why I love this site so much. It's none of that. No agents, managers, lawyers. Just musicians sharing songs. Finally. Glad you liked it and thanks for stopping by!

last two have been real nice rockers. So nice to hear a real drummer. Excellent tune.

Thanks. I played a show in December and some guy came up and said my songs were too sad and that I was depressing him. Awesome. So it's good to know that I have other material that isn't so glum!

Also, my friend Keith is the best drummer I've ever played with. He Irish and was the drummer for the band Power of Dreams in the early 90's. Great band. They did alright. Human metronome, all that. Knows how to feel a song out. I hate using MIDI drums now.

Raunchy &mdash 03/16/08 - 06:08:49 AM
Raunchy as hell. I could see that this would be a really good live song.

Great song.

much appreciated. I don't get why certain things get lost in translation from live to studio, but it's just the way of the gun sometimes, thanks.

man, another killer track. i think this one sounds great recorded, i would love to see it live. some songs are like that...i know i've had a few. oh, and your description was great...i know too many people like that, and thankfully i've stayed far far away from them!

killer killer tune!

I think anybody that has played even one show has run in to ten of those people. People who think they're part of the industry and look at music as a means to get rich. Snakes, the lot of them!

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the tune. thanks for stopping by!

Love the keyword: "Oasis rip-off" brilliant. I think you should add "slimiest chick ever". Well done angst. The bridge harmonies are awesome as you stated. I dunno I think it comes off recorded pretty damn well. Rawkin'.

I think the vocals on this one are buried more than anything we did. I have no idea why we decided to stick with them like that. i think it works, but there almost on the edge of being annoyingly low. Industry snakes are awful, but there's nothing worse than a small-time nobody in a bankrupt market thinking she's an industry snake. Yuck. Thanks for listening!
