Description:
i've always enjoyed bruce springsteen, john mellencamp, bon jovi......they always had that americana sound/feel to their music.....singing about small towns , hope, fun, love...etc....always wanted to try to do music like that...here is my chance...and who better to capture that sound than macjammer aclarke......he does a great job bringing that springsteen/mellencamp sound to the vocals......in his own personal style of course....i also asked macjammer Vicholman if he would add that inimitable holman sound via a lead solo..he does not disappoint......he did a professional job of keeping the lead in context and in mood....he just nails it.....also following vic's lead is macjammert Z293 taking his trademark melodic lead playing to the essence of the track..again he plays perfectly in context and with passion.....i follow next with my les paul and that leads back to aclarke.....
adam(aclarke) adds his notes:
In academic circles it is fairly common for university professors to give a hypothetical "Last Lecture"- with the premise that if they knew they were dying what would they speak about. In the case of a Carnegie Mellon University Professor, Dr. Randy Pausch, it was not hypothetical. He has been diagnosed with terminal Pancreatic Cancer and given months to live. Dr. Pausch's "Last Lecture" at Carnegie Mellon has received an enormous amount of attention and in September of 2007 he reprised his speech on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.

Rather than be saddened by the story on the surface I instead found myself inspired by the message within and used this inspiration as a catalyst to re-examine those things in my life that are truly important…. Laugh Some. Live Some. Dream Some. Love Some. Believe.
Lyrics:
Believe: lyrics by Adam Clarke:
He stands alone a fated man
with no hidden cause or purpose
just carryin' out his plan
childhood dreams have all come true
but before he leaves this world
there's more things he'd like to do
(Laugh some)
Laugh a little every day
(Live Some)
don't worry bout tomorrow
or the crazy things you say
(Dream some)
Let hope be the answer
and you conscience be your guide
(love some)
Don't be afraid to apologize
then make it right
(Laugh some)
and any wall that stands in your way
(Live Some)
will only make you stronger
help you on your way
(Dream some)
believe in that dream
and help your fellow man
(love some)
be true to the ones you love
and be the best you can
These days it's not easy
to see and recognize
the answer to a good life
is right before our eyes
we can learn it from our children
they know no other way
play and fun and having a good time
are needed every day
we need more than money wealth and fame
like being good to others
and the payback that it brings
if our eyes are open
to see things differently
and trust what we can't see and feel
believe in a dream
(Laugh some)
Laugh a little every day
(Live Some)
don't worry bout the small things
or the crazy things you say
(Dream some)
Let hope be the answer
and you conscience be your guide
(love some)
Don't be afraid to apologize
then make it right
(Laugh some)
and those walls that stand in your way
(Live Some)
will only make you stronger
help you on your way
(Dream some)
believe in that dream
and help your fellow man
(love some)
be true to the ones who love you
and be the best you can
Keep hoping and trying
believe in your drea

Sweet and deep! &mdash 03/14/08 - 09:39:10 AM
I could use a slightly faster pace but then the vocal might seem rushed. All in all this is a sweet piece. Thanks for sharing! [ Reply to This ]

monster collab. Props to all involved. Adam, your voice is stellar sounding. Vic & Z colored it in nicely. Lyrically outstanding..who wrote them? McBoy nice job tying it all together [ Reply to This ]
Hey man &mdash 03/14/08 - 10:11:52 AM
Thanks! I wrote the lyrics with some guidance on the second and third verses from McBoy and some additional counsel from Droop. As simple a sentiment it is I had a hard time with those particular lines not making it sound self-righteous. Hopefully...... [ Reply to This ]

Strong Performance &mdash 03/14/08 - 02:28:41 PM
Interesting production, Mcboy.
Adam... nice to hear you cut loose on this... with very powerful results.
Significant emotional events in our lives are usually what compel us to take a closer look at what we really value in life --- and how much we have ignored and/or overlooked.
Dr. Pausch's reflections *should* serve as an inspiration, as it has here. We all come... and we all go. It's a fact of life. Duration is incidental. Passion for life is everything.
I believe there's lots of passion evident from everyone in this production. ;)

Americana From Maine &mdash 03/14/08 - 05:24:02 PM
And beyond. Adam you definitely bring that to this song. Thanks to Mcboy once again for letting me be a part of something different that I would never get to be a part of and getting to work with two MacJammers Adam and Vic that have such unique styles of their own and of course Mcboy has all the styles covered. Z- you rock! &mdash 03/15/08 - 10:43:15 PM
The solos you and Vic laid down were killer and more than I could have hoped for.
You really captured the feeling and emotion of the song. So glad we were finally able to work on a song together. May this not be the last! ~Adam [ Reply to This ]

Very cool collab - great vocals Adam. Nice playing by the rhythm section - some very cool leads - now which one was Vic again ;)
Well produced in the Springsteen style Mr Boy.

What a strong song! &mdash 03/14/08 - 06:46:26 PM
And I love the story of the inspiration behind it. Adam I'm glad you put the extra effort in to get the most out of the lyrics....was well worth it.
Great performance by all! I really like the different solo's and each is great in their on way, but still within the context of the overall production.
Excellent job of putting this all together Mcboy, and I really like that ambient reverb in the mix.
Great job by all [ Reply to This ]
Thank you! &mdash 03/16/08 - 08:25:43 AM
You and McBoy both said the same thing in completely different ways- and it really made a difference in the way I approached those verses and all the difference in the way the song was delivered.. so thanks again! [ Reply to This ]
Cool song, great lyrics &mdash 03/14/08 - 07:17:01 PM
And the singing is excellent.
The only thing I noticed that might need to be changed to make it even better, is that the music sound kind of hollow. I guess what I mean is it's all well played, but it doesn't seem to have the bottom end it needs to drive the song. My suggestion is to bring up the Bass and Bass drum a couple db to thicken it up and give it more energy.
It's a very good song all around, and with a little more drive and energy it will be a great song.
Please don't take offense for my comments, I really do like it a lot.
Be well my friend

Sweetness &mdash 03/14/08 - 08:17:03 PM
Let me first say that Adam's vocals are so good, he really comes across very sincerely and gives us just the right amount of ooomph...I also am a Springsteen fan and its great to see something in that vein here at MJ
The solos are fantastic and compliment eachother well
The final singing segment is great and the break down at the end is perfect
Kudos to all involved! [ Reply to This ]

It's in my PS3! &mdash 03/15/08 - 01:15:34 PM
I just recently installed a huge widescreen surround-sound PS3 in the living room, and to test the game console's multimedia capabilities, I downloaded this song directly from the internet. WOW! That was quite a start with my new set up, listening to some of Macjams' greats in an awesome collab! Topnotch vocals and a very tight production altogether. You guys really give inspiration with a great message and with your musical gifts! [ Reply to This ]
great! &mdash 03/15/08 - 07:18:59 PM
Great powerful vocals from Adam are the standout on this track and the groove is a close second, but everything is super. I love this song! I might have mixed it a tad different myself, as I am not crazy about the small room reverb on the lead vocal, and there are some guitar leads that seem to detour off the main track of the song, but most of the time I can't write a comment without some crack about how it could have been better no matter how great a song is. I believe .. &mdash 03/16/08 - 03:49:53 PM
.. this is a great song! ;o)
Stellar vocals and lyrics Adam .. and a good choon to boot ..plus a melodic guitarists ensemble .. how could I resist.
My only nits happen to be the same as Jim's .. not keen on the reverb on the vocals and some rather unusual off the wall scales in the 3rd solo that jarred a little to be perfectly honest: shouldn't C# work better than C on that slidy down scale?? (pfft what do I know .. that might have been too obvious)
Excellent overall all the same- grand job mcboy, Adam, Vic and Z293. [ Reply to This ]

Very moving. &mdash 03/18/08 - 12:15:47 PM
We had an earthquake very recently in the uk it was
really scary to everyone that heard and felt this horror. And suffered damage.
I and my family were ok. We never felt or heard a thing. And we were awake at the time. Yet some people
living local suffered damage and heard and felt the full impact. !!
The earth moved again in a really beautiful way this time
to this earth shattering song that has been put together perfect in every way. To my two ears.
Adam your have a really good voice and the music was also excellent.Well done guys. I liked it just as it was. The lyrics were wonderful too.
Peace Dee.

Back &mdash 03/19/08 - 03:00:28 PM
I've been here a few times to leave a comment, but I kept wanting to type, "gosh," and couldn't get past that, so I kept leaving.
So far I've managed to type more than "gosh."
This is a really well-written song guys, all the parts, the instrumentation and the lyrics and the message couldn't be more important. I love the vocal melody on the chorus (backing vox are cool, too).
Gosh. [ Reply to This ]

Brilliant &mdash 03/20/08 - 03:05:44 PM
song. The lyrics are inspirational without a doubt, the same feeling I got from watching the video. Everybody is in great form , and I bet Springsteen and those other guys could not have done better [ Reply to This ]
Thanks again &mdash 03/20/08 - 05:15:49 PM
Mcboy, for giving me another opportunity to work on a song with you. I had a pretty good rough idea where I wanted to take this after hearing just a few measures... your message came within days of me seeing the video Professor Pausch's inspiring lecture... I guess the timing was right.
I know we've had some conversation about the mix... after listening to the alternate mix you sent it became clear to me that this posted version is the right one... including the playful interplay of guitar and vocals on the third verse. It's much more "alive" and exciting sounding... which is how I hear it in my head. [ Reply to This ]
American Dream &mdash 04/05/08 - 08:49:20 PM
It fit my mood, tastes, like a glove, from the first strikes of the pick. fine vox supported by a killer harmony arrangement. Your stated affinity for the ol' American rock idiom and your lyrics - and the story behind them - combine to make this song an "American Dream" we can all share. [ Reply to This ]
Cool song! &mdash 04/29/08 - 10:07:11 AM
Robert Plant &mdash 05/06/08 - 05:38:57 AM
Reminds me quite a bit of Robert Plant with Led Zeppelin. I like the background vocals, in addition to the very strong lead vocal.
Lyrics are thoughtful and well-constructed.
Your vocal also reminds me of the guy on the commercial "Free Credit Report Dot Com." And I do mean that as a compliment.
Love the guitar solo. Reminds me of Phil Keaggy. [ Reply to This ]
