Description:
This is just a mix of themes that I am working on.

I'd love any feedback on the contents.

There are just piano, oboe, pizzicato strings and a shaker involved in this version. I like to keep themes simple when I'm working on them. It helps me remember them!!

There will be more of this uploaded, as time goes by.

This is a great start. I really like the voices you have in here so far, and I can kind of imagine the various ways it may develop. Love those staccato strings and your use of the piano. There's a repeated piano chord in there (Cm w/a D) that feels a bit "strident" in conjunction w/ the strings. But I'm sure that'll all get worked out in the mix later. Because YOU know how to mix! Thanks for the sneak peak, can't wait to hear the next version.

Thanks M..... &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:27:57 PM
I don't know when I'm going to get around to the next mix.

This mix just came out, with (to me) too many gaps in the music to be of any lasting use. It's just another experiment.

We'll see what happens if I can get around to rephrasing the piece and adding more variety.

Take care.

Paul

Hi SB.... &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:30:29 PM
Epic could be the best word for this piece. It's supposed to be in the style of Thomas Newman, so maybe I did OK with attempting his style of music.

Thanks for listening and leaving your kind words.

Take care.

excellent &mdash 03/15/08 - 12:24:19 PM
love the plucked strings and the oboe part is really a nice addition. what i really like is your choice to use a shaker; such an unusual choice for this type of piece. very clever. another excellent musical outing Paul.

Hi Michael,,,,, &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:35:10 PM
The mix of instruments is just what was there on the magazine DVD I had. The percussion was the shaker so I went with it.

The only problem is that to develop the piece I'll have to redo it with my own versions of the instruments (as there are very few loops from which to choose), from either Edirol or Miroslav, so I may be a while with any new variations.

Take care.

Looking forward... &mdash 03/15/08 - 12:57:39 PM
...to see where this goes, Paul. My initial thought is that if you had a longer motif/tune (4 bars at least), you'd have the basis for a really creative imitative piece. It is so short now that there's not much you can deal with. Your choice of instruments is really nice, though, and I think with just these you'd be able to develop a full composition. But think about lengthening that melody so you have more "text" to manipulate.
Peace.

Hi Paul.... &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:39:39 PM
I thought, in putting this fragment together, that the phrases, although short, fitted together in a pleasant-sounding way. You're right that the piece is too short to go anywhere. It's really just a snippit of an idea for a piece of music.

If I work any more with it I will have to redo it, as the phrases were made up from free loops, and there aren't that many to play with. Maybe once I can get Miroslav up and running successfully (as far as MIDI is concerned) I'll have another pop at the piece.

Take care.

Paul

I like this so far..lots of musical space. I felt the melody in the English Horn-ish instrument halfway through was very nice. Quirky.

Hi Soulima... &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:43:18 PM
The piece is a little bit of nothing really, as the music is derived from free loops on a magazine DVD. I play with some of the sounds, in this way, if there are any interesting kits on any new disk.

To develop this, and I may do this, I would have to rework it all and so one day I might just do that.

Thanks for listening and leaving your thoughts.

Take care.

Paul

Hi Feter... &mdash 03/17/08 - 01:45:31 PM
I'm glad you enjoyed this short piece. It is made from free loops, off of a magazine DVD.

I think I might be able to develop this, but it will take me a while to sort out and arrange the next variation.

Take care.

Paul
