Description:
This is my entry in Feter's WoodstockMJ Festival - and I'm proud to be a part of it. I'm sorry to say that although I was at Woodstock (at the tender age of 15) with my brother Will - I remember less about the music than I do about the Hog Farm commune that set up a kitchen in the woods (see picture) complete with tree swings and naked children - and fed me when the concessions ran out of food - or the lines were too long.
This song is less in the style of the times and more in the spirit - while reflecting a bit of today as well I hope.
Thanks to Feter for putting this idea together.
Woodstock MJ
Peace
Lyrics:
Everyone’s looking
For someone with the answers
Who can lighten our hearts
And turn the world around
People are waiting
People are wiating
People are waiting
for a change to come
The pain and the srtruggle
Just seems too much to bear
Peace is so fragile
On this cold cold ground
It’s time to stop waiting
Let’s start believing
That a new day is dawning
Wipe the clouds from the sun
There’s peace if you want it
Just imagine a future
Where our children are brothers
In a world that is one
People are waiting
People are wiating
People are waiting
for a change to come
Just ask your neighbor
If you can do something
To lighten his load
Cause we’ve just begun
It’s time to stop waiting
Let’s start believing
That a new day is dawning
Wipe the clouds from the sun

You have .... &mdash 03/15/08 - 11:53:08 PM
... definitely captured the Woodstock feeling here .... wonder whatever happened to my tye dyed jeans with the peace signs on them, my peasant skirt and those leather thongs (they call them flip flops now) with the strap that went "around" your big toe instead of between it and the next toe .... oh .... maybe there is more of the Woodstockness rubbing off on me here ... I feel dizzy [ Reply to This ]
If you feel dizzy &mdash 03/16/08 - 04:39:06 PM
just sit down - if that helps - lie down - it's even better - just look up at the stars and let the sound wash over you...

I love... &mdash 03/16/08 - 12:08:09 AM
...hearing the crowd behind this track, Bud. Your expert guitar is the perfect accompaniment and you have written a mantra-like chorus that is easy to keep in my head, something definitely very much of the '60's style of writing. Your production quality is, as usual, top notch. You just seem to spin these off with great ease.
Peace.

you're a very generous man. These songs come with Terrier tenacity - not ease. Once I get started I refuse to give up until I have something that's not too embarrassing. [ Reply to This ]

People Are Waiting &mdash 03/16/08 - 08:59:09 AM
This is GREAT! I was about 15 at the time too, living in Connecticut, and headed up to Woodstock a little late in the game in a car full of people (actually, a VW bus naturally). We never got there because once you got even kind of close (like in the same county), the roads were so clogged you couldn't go forward. So I spent Woodstock trying to get to Woodstock, and trying to get back from the area of Woodstock! That's adolescence for you. Anyway, this song so takes me back to the times, I agree you've captured it wonderfully and this is a real winner! [ Reply to This ]
We left early and got there without too much hassle &mdash 03/16/08 - 04:50:39 PM
but by the time we did they weren't even taking tickets and the whole scene was already crazy. We left before Sunday - wet, muddy, and hungry. [ Reply to This ]

Great song man ! And the people are waiting for the change but then we realize that there is a reason for everything and its just not because they were old but someday we'll face the same demons that we shunned ..then the moment of truth when we choose our path .... [ Reply to This ]
The moment of truth &mdash 03/16/08 - 04:58:46 PM
will come when people stop waiting and start believing. As simple as the message of this song is - I kinda got into it as I was singing it. It started as an homage to a simpler time and became something I could relate to today. [ Reply to This ]
nice one Kevin &mdash 03/16/08 - 12:12:19 PM
this totally has the woodstock vibe, even the lyrics; is it a refreshing world view, or is it drug addled optimism? love the guitar sound and your vox are perfect. i need to jump in on this challenge when i get a few hours. great job. [ Reply to This ]
I know you'll do something cool &mdash 03/16/08 - 05:00:39 PM
this is not drug addled but is definitely optimistic. When I look at my kids who are now 13 and 17 I gotta find some hope in the present. [ Reply to This ]

You called it - the friday bill
that's what I remember best. As I recall the day was Richie Havens - John Sebastion - Maharishi - Joan Baez - Canned Heat etc and then at night it was CCN and a bunch of other bands that became a blur to me I'm afraid. This was my Youngbloods contribution to the Festival. [ Reply to This ]
Yes! &mdash 03/16/08 - 09:13:22 PM

Had a Feeling &mdash 03/17/08 - 08:04:33 AM
...you'd come up with something that feels this natural and real. When I saw Feter's challenge, I thought, 'this is Bud's backyard, boy!' Your music has already taken me to several outdoor concerts with a hot sun beating down over a crowd as guitars wash over us, and I'm back there again now. Mud on my bare feet and a breeze blowing thru my hair, and it feels like I never want it to end. [ Reply to This ]
I figured that my bookends would be &mdash 03/17/08 - 09:43:50 PM
Woodstock and the first Lollapalooza tour - but I've just added Burning Man to the list of collective exposure to the elements and the weird ways of creative forces. Wish me luck - I think I might need it. I expect a lot less rain and mud in the Nevada desert at the end of August. Thanks for the kind support here. [ Reply to This ]

you can say that again. There's waiting - and then there's wondering what your waiting for - that can take some time too. Sad to say. I really appreciate the writing and production comments from someone as talented as yourself. [ Reply to This ]
Fine... &mdash 03/17/08 - 09:25:33 PM
...lyric and vocal. I hear a little bit of Wooden Ships in the guitar lead. I also thought of Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready, so, yeah, you're in the right groove. Glad we made it to the original together. [ Reply to This ]
Glad we made it there together too - &mdash 03/17/08 - 10:02:02 PM
it was nice thing you did - taking me along. I can hear the Wooden Ships thing too now that you mention it - though I was going for a basic Steven Stills tone. People Get Ready makes sense too - but honestly I was afraid it sounded a little like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I had to redo the vocal line after the first pass - cause I almost went into "take me to the place I lo-ove, take me all the way...". strange - but true.

Bud, this song has a great tone. All the tracks fit together nicely also. Your vocals are a bit hot, but the messages in them are pointed, so it's a good hot.
Though I didn't enter this challenge, I like the music it's produced.
