Keywords:
Piano (622)Ballad (148)Emotion (15)Sad (132)
Description:
Piano song that I had written awhile back. I was always trying to add something to it, but I'm not sure it needs it. The title is only temporary, I don't know that it even fits, but it does explain why I came up with it at the time I wrote it. To me this song is about going through hard times and coming out with a hopeful view that things are getting better. Let me know what you think and if I should add anything here.

I think it's a rather strong piece by itself but I need some more opinions. Thanks in advance for listening!

Well, this is lovely as is, AND I can so easily hear cellos, violins, maybe an english horn or bassoon, or any number of woodwind and/or horn instruments in JP4. But that's just me. Others will hear all kinds of synth sounds and lots of interesting percussion. (Actually, I could totally go for percussion in various spots to help carry it along.) BUT, piano is an instrument that is it's own orchestra in so many ways and having played solo piano basically my whole life, to my ear it also sounds complete all by itself. Did that confuse you enough? Do what feels right to YOU!

Re: Magna &mdash 03/16/08 - 08:09:26 PM
Haha, thanks for the input here Magna. I'm with you on the orchestral parts and I think it would do the piece a lot of good if I could add some cellos/horn/violins/etc to it; however, I don't think I have the expertise with those yet to do the piano justice. Percussion, I also agree with, but if I make a stab at it, I usually come up way short on that. I have a lot more practice with drums and percussion until i'm even decent at it. Synths are interesting, but I don't know that I can think of a melody. Ah well, I'll take the input into consideration and experiment around with some things.

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the song!

Good soundtrack. This could be slid right under a scene in a movie. It's not particularly interesting in and of itself, but it sends the feeling across. That's all a good soundtrack needs, in my opinion. Depends on what you want to use this for.

Thanks Zagar for the comments, I agree about the soundtrack. I always thought it was ok by itself by to be really gripping it needed something more. Glad you enjoyed this.

The some what different melodies and what seem to be key changes... Very nicely done.

This is very good &mdash 03/17/08 - 03:26:28 PM
Andrew, I agree with your thinking that you have a very strong track here. And whereas it does stand well on its own, I would have to go along with the assessment of Karen (Magnatone) - some orchestration might make this piece much more compelling.

I think orchestration would lend itself to bringing melodies to this formidable track, which, in my opinion, would elevate it significantly.

By the way, listening to Karen's music is like taking a class in orchestration. I would say the same of Soulima's, as well.

Thanks for the comments here Futz, I'll have to make time to browse their profiles for the music. I've heard a couple recents but not much overall. I agree with you on the orchestration and will definitely look into it. Glad you enjoyed this and thanks for commenting!

I agree .. &mdash 03/17/08 - 03:45:07 PM
..with you in that it is very strong sounding on it's own .. is that piano sound from your Yamaha DGX-203? Tis' lovely. I can also hear why it is 'happy foreboding' .. both light at times .. but some more sinister shifts ..
the only thing and can compare such a piano piece too is like B&W silent films .. where the mood switches from the blissfully unware comic hero to the villain up to no good.

Enjoyed that flavour very much.
