Classical (372)themes (2)simple (34)phrased (1)unfinished (16)
Description:
This is a second group of themes that need development. Again I've used just a few instruments, namely drum, bass, glockenspiel, guitar and harp.

It's some more work for a rainy day, sometime in the future.

As always, I appreciate your listening and leaving your comments. It means a great deal to me to know that someone has listened and then taken more of their time to leave some thoughts.

What a great start! I just love the glockenspiel, and have I'm sure, horribly overused it in previous pieces. YOU however, do things just right! This is lovely set of sounds, melodies, and I especially like how the guitar and glockenspiel are playing off of each other. Love that "talking" guitar too. Can't wait to hear the next installment.

Many thanks M..... &mdash 03/19/08 - 12:48:56 PM
I appreciate your listening and leaving your kind comments.

I too seem to use the glock. somewhat in my classical pieces. It has a nice sound (IMO) so I'll be using it again, and again.

The guitar parts are also some of my favourite in this mix too.

Take care.

Nice... &mdash 03/18/08 - 11:01:50 PM
...tinkly sounds in this one, Paul, with a slightly more "up" feeling than in some of your previous posts. Now, don't get nostaglic on us... I do hope you will start playing with melody one of these days. You've got the sub-scoring down to a science and it is always thoughtful and wisely chosen. This theme is no exception. ... Anyway, just a thought... I found the bass a little heavy on this. If you back off just a tad, it'll be so much easier to listen to. Let your bells shimmer...and then...a...flute? ...or... at least ... a ... little whistle?
Always enjoy your imaginative creations.
Peace.
Paul

You have some good suggestions for continuing this piece, Paul. I'll see what I can do over this coming long weekend break.

Thanks for stopping by and listening.

Take care.

Interesting how you flesh your work out first by writing themes. I would guess not a lot of people work that way. Seems a tad bass heavy too, but I like what you have so far!

Hi Soulima........ &mdash 03/20/08 - 04:32:26 PM
I had various musical phrases for this mix and I just built each part up from the percussion to the strings. If I work with loops this is the way I always go, even loops I've created myself.

I then meld tracks/instruments together until I finish with a stereo mix (mostly) and then I work on the quality of the final mix.

When I write my own stuff I use the piano to work things out and then orchestrate it for a finished product, to be later recorded using soft instruments where I don't have real musicians (or their instruments).

Take care.

Hello there! &mdash 03/22/08 - 07:20:45 PM
I agree with Paul that the bass is a little to loud, as is tsometimes the glockenspie. The piece itself is very enjoyable! keep up the good work.

This piece is an experiment in mixing instruments and your comments are valuable in helping me to work on version two. I don't know when it will be put together but this feedback from my music friends is invaluable.

Thanks for listening and taking more time to leave me your words.

Take care,

Paul

I hear a sustained kind of melody above this &mdash 03/25/08 - 08:00:50 AM
Really like the bed you've made here Paul. Interesting rhythms, textures and contrasts (bass and the sparkle of the glock) that are just waiting for long phrased strings or synths to round it out.

Another great work in the making!

Cheers,
Doug

I enjoy putting snippits of themes, etc. together and playing around with them.

There'll probably be more where these 3 or 4 came from.

Take care.

Paul

Very groovy! &mdash 04/17/08 - 11:49:56 PM
Love the dub bass churning - while the bells accentuate certain beats. Very original sound!
