Mary Queen of Scots (1)Ambient (465)Spoken word (45)Scotland (8)Tom Weir (1)History (16)
Description:
A bare three months after the murder of her second husband, Lord Darnley, Mary married the Earl of Bothwell, who was almost certainly one of the people responsible for the killing. The infatuated queen made him a duke.

A rising of prominent Scottish nobles led to her being confined in Loch (Scottish for lake) Leven Castle where she was made to abdicate, in favour of her son the infant James VI.

It was on June 16, 1567 she was imprisoned in the Castle. The Castle is still there today and you can take a boat to visit it.

This track is about Mary Queen of Scots life as a prisoner and attempted escape.

The people who are telling the story are Tom Weir and his friend Willy Thompson.

It was recorded from an old TV show called 'Weirs Way', where the legend that is Tom Weir would walk all around Scotland in his wooly hat making programs about the history, culture and people of Scotland.

The recording is quite poor and has a lot of hiss. I have added the reduce 's' thing but there is still a bit of hiss. The track is not that complex or skilled, there are some generic loops you will prob have heard a million times, but i have tried to alter them a bit. The story is of greater importance than the music. I have tried to make it quite repetitive and for most of it to melt into the background.

The Painting is of Mary escaping from Loch Leven Castle.

Anyway, I am rambling on again as i usually do in this section........End

great track &mdash 03/19/08 - 11:10:02 AM
sounds really nice. the hiss didn't bother me; but since you mentioned it, i cranked up the speakers and yes i can hear it now. not sure which frequency, but if you look at the articles on the side of the page, there is one on EQ. pretty sure it will tell you what frequencies to cut that will get rid of that hiss. that said, it didn't bother me at all.

this is very hypnotic and i'm loving it this morning.

I am a huge fan of anything having to do with Scottish history.
This is a very cool little story about a Queen of Scotland I never knew about before.
Thanks!
