Lyrics:
So So Sleepyhad this dream I would never awake
sleep comes down hard
give me time, I try to rise
give me more time please
ch:
try to wake me
I'm so so sleepy
try to shake me
I'm so so sleepy
the whole day i live in a haze
dreamed i was awake
it's to dark, I'm to old
I'm too far asleep
ch:
try to wake me
I'm so so sleepy
try to shake me
I'm so so sleepy
sun comes up to early for me
please drop the shades
I'm unwired, I'm to tired
I need more time please
ch:
try to wake me
I'm so so sleepy
try to shake me
I'm so so sleepy
the hands of time are reaching nine
I don't care
feed the rest, I'm a mess
what more can I say
ch:
try to wake me
I'm so so sleepy
try to shake me
I'm so so sleepy

I feel like I'm going to wear out the favorite button. I'm so glad is the whole song and not just the tease! :)
Vic, this is a terrific song... your guitar playing is always outstanding but your voice is completely right for this song. I have this exercise I try in my head while listening to a song... called- how would I sing this song... this one is all Vic Holman... I can't hear anyone else doing this justice.
Great song... I've snagged my free copy!
Vic Holman
no teasing on this one. I realized that I had not done just a acoustic piece in all the time I've been here. Once I did the demo, the thing kept gnawing at me to finish it. Now I can sleep better.
aclarke
you have the best song art!
Vic Holman
i create the art in freehand, unfortunately adobe bought it out and want to push illustrator instead, even though freehand has been the better graphic program
Feter
this is very much trippy my friend ...
your singin on this one just great .the acoutsic
set of Vic Holman here just as top as the fire
electric settin ...I loved it and its like a
mando feel at the end ..man you Rock ,KUDOS !!
Vic Holman
yes this is the unplugged part of the set. the simulated mando part is two guitars playing harmony lines.
bud
The chorus reminds me a bit of Roy Orbison - I could see you going there one day. Very stately playing and arranging - sweet.
Vic Holman
I could never get the high falsetto of Roy (maybe if i stand on a chair)
the acoustics i played with capos at the fifth fret. then i had to figure the transpositions for bass and the 3 synth tracks. definately had my work cut out for me.
love the acoustic guitar and the strings backing this are just perfect. (Is that the Ovation on the guitar solo?) Sounds real nice. Your lyrics are always interesting... this is no exception.
A dreamy dream of a song, Vic... great finish.
Vic Holman
the house is on fire!!
Yes, it's the ovation for the lead parts. I needed the different sound to cut through the mix. since it is a super shallow bowl, I backed up the solos with the ibanez playing a octave down for support.
I did 3 string tracks, an ensemble, violas and cellos in order to fill it out more.
You turned this into a nice tune! Man, I can relate to the lyrics- every day I'm in a haze.
The mix sounds excellent!
Vic Holman
.... and I've seen that huge coffee mug of your's!
it's a little tricky mixing guitars with 3 string synth tracks but I'm pretty how it came out. plus, I'm glad that I hadn't forgotten the chords by the time I came back to finishing thisszzzz..
Nick_Flash
This has progressed into a nice song. I like the backing synths. Your voice sounds good here also. Reminds me my eyes are getting heavy and I need to go sleep.
Vic Holman
I'll have to do a fast rocker next time to wake everyone up.
it does make for a good lullaby though.
Ibstrat
fantastic. If I had 1/10 the recording knowledge that you do I would be happy.Your voice sounds incredible here.I saw some people butchering Beatles songs on American Idol tonite-this makes me feel better.Excellent guitar work!
Vic Holman
well, it goes to show if I can learn something of the recording process then anyone can. I started out knowing not a thing when i first got garageband, and i have a ton of badly recorded songs to prove it. It just takes a lot of trail and error and time. for me it did at least. But the whole process is just as exciting as when i first started playing guitar back in my teens.
lengold
Yeah, me too.
Really like this beautifully written song Vic. The instrumentation, vocals and production do it the justice it deserves too.
Cheers

Vic Holman
I'm not one of types that can jump out of bed and my day cannot really kick in until I've downed a couple cups of coffee in the morning. I wish nap time was mandatory at work in the afternoon.
Kenta_and_Linda_Rocks_together
I just woke up and what a great woke up find this post from one of my fave artist vic this is for me a Wonderfully song the best wake up I ever had... I remember that demo bonus track you did and now you have taken it to another dimension... Very nice done I really dig it.
Vic Holman
It took me a while to get around to finish this. I think I was "To To Lazy". I can now sleep more peacefully knowing that it is finally done.
WeAreNotPerfekt
I don't need to set the clocks ahead for this to happen to me .. Thank you for being a mouthpiece of us who would need 26 hours days :-)
Nice melody, great vocals with lots of personality, good production.
Johannes
Vic Holman
26 hours. I only get around 6 and 1/2 hours of sleep and still find the day goes by in a hazy blur. I think a lot of people can identify, judging by how fast the coffee goes at work.
DWL
Lovely use of the strings and the acoustic works so well on this.
A hit without a doubt.
Cheers
Dick
Vic Holman
I did 3 tracks of synth strings ( violins, violas and cellos) to fill it out. The guitars alone would have left the song to trebly without them.
It just makes me sleepy just thinking about the mixing for this.
Thanks again Dick
that80sboy
...but beautiful!....thanks for the post vic!
Vic Holman
i thought it would be a nice contrast to what i normally do.
thanks for taking a listen!
Mcboy
song my man...u r one unique kat......few can claim a sound.....and u have yours...and i dig it......k..time to nap......hehhehe
Vic Holman
almost laid back enough to be a lullaby for nappy time. I definately learned something about mixing acoustics and strings from this.
SJB
A lovely vocal melody with an accompaniment that fits perfectly. Strings and bass make a great cushion for the acoustic guitar to sit on. Really fantastic production and playing (the tremolo plectrum picking near the end was a surprising treat for the ears!).
Thanks for posting.
All the best to you.
Vic Holman
I played the guitars with a capo at the fifth fret. so it became a neccessity to add the various string tracks and bass to fill it out. I found out quickly that acoustics and orchestra strings are not the easiest to mix.
Thanks again! appreciated
MarkHolbrook
Very rich and clear. Nice mix. Everything fits together well!
Vic Holman
I put down 6 acoustic tracks. Doubling the hybrid picking and strummed parts and panned opposite. it gives a better stereo image. then the other two were for the solo parts. I've found that helps to give it a big sound.
Thanks again for the listen.
davisamerica
a bit of the travelling wilburys ... but not ... just you vic ... how the heck do you keep the bar so high ... really enjoyed this
Vic Holman
heck, I'm trying to reach it the same as everyone else. hopefully when we all reach it, we can all sit down and have a beer together.
magnatone
Wow - what a perfect song. I can get Bud's Roy Orbison reference earlier - I also go a little bit to George Harrison, though you're singing circles around him. As has been already stated, the production here is just amazing. You SO know what you're doing - thanks for the wonderful post!
Vic Holman
I have gotten the George reference before, usually it's when i throw slide guitar work in. Then again I did learn to play guitar way back when to Georges Beatle guitar work. So I guess it rubbed off some.
michael2
one vic, everything sounds so good. glad that you fleshed this one out as it's too good to just be an outro. i'm falling asleep at my desk right now, so this is perfect for my state of mind. like how you do the descending thing with a little twist in the solo. just beautiful man. i can't believe how much you pack into one song without it sounding like an overproduced mess; always impressive.
Vic Holman
It haunted me in my dreams by not finishing it off.
I thought it was a way to show my working in process style, of course the vocals always come last.
Now that's at rest, I'm not so sleepy now.
Z293
You really carry this song along without a lot of instrumentation. That can be a tough thing to do but you seemed to have little trouble in the process.
Vic Holman
Sometime constraining myself is the hardest thing to do. I even cut some extra stuff out. But I wanted to do this some justice!
Peter Bauckham
song Vic - Love the arrangement - the strings really add. Another fav!
Peter
Vic Holman
Really glad you liked it. I've always have been hesitant to put something like this out. Not sure why.
Biggest problem for me was that I played the guitar with a capo and then had to figure out the keyboard parts to match.
Thanks again Peter.
Im glad you decided to elaborate on this fine song, its well crafted and finely tuned and I like that you kept it restrained. Neat guitar work as usual!
Vic Holman
I thought it would be good to go ahead and see this to completion. I figured I should have a unplugged tune so everyone could light candles. fire code or not.
song and you play your guitar so sweet too, Cheers nice lyrics also
this did not put me to sleep, just the opposite. Woke me up more for a listen. liked the way you sang the song lazily too so cool.
And at this time of the morning in the Uk I should be asleep but cannot.
Peace Dee.
Vic Holman
Normally I'm not this mellow. But it was worth giving it a shot. After I had the guitar part figured out it hit me where to go with the lyrics. I actually recorded the vocals after i woke up on a Saturday. Method singer i guess.
buckhorn
Consistently quality stuff. I dug this as the bonus tune. Cool to hear a little different production for you with more acoustic plus strings and such, beautiful overall sound. Sparse or fleshed out it's a great tune. Regards
Vic Holman
With the demo and then to this final piece, it kinda shows how i progress through a song when i build them. But I always add the vocals after everything else is done though.
Ed Hannifin
I really enjoy the stereo spread of the acoustic guitars, and I like the melody...
I also really like the acoustic lead breaks...
The song itself is really strong, and the vocal is great as well..
Ed
Vic Holman
I wasn't going to leave you hanging with this one.
I was just "To To Lazy" to get to it sooner. I learned some things in mixing when adding strings to acoustics. It did take some work to separate them out. Valuable lesson learned.
lavalamp
at the end of this month, but I took vacation the Monday after that weekend, so I'm good.
By the way great song Vic. Like hearing this side of you. Loved the guitar break.
Bud mentioned Orbison..........I see that.
Have a Great Easter
LL
Vic Holman
yeah I have a softer side. Roy's falsetto I'll never to be able to reach. But he did put strings in quite a few of his tunes. maybe that's part of it.
Over here they moved the time change up a few weeks from what it use to be. I'll get use to it, someday.
And have a happy Easter yourself, Dave
dajama
sound on this. It just rings out in the phones. And add to that your vocal - what a great song. You sing this with great style and feeling, and those string sounds work perfectly, complementing without overwhelming the sound and the song. Beautiful. Glad you decided to do the full-blown version of this. Nicely done. Peace.
Vic Holman
It was quite a balancing act to get the string tracks right. beyond the fade ins and outs. When converting to a mp3 file, the sample rate would either boost them or drop them to much. I had 7 or 8 bounced down files before I got to this one. For a simple sounding tune, this took some effort. Whew!
Thanks again David, appreciate to giving it a listen!
egobandit
Madeline kahn sang it so nice in blazing saddles but this is better. I dont know why this sounds so familar to me. Is this a previous post. Enjoyed this alot. This is exactly where Im at so tired I cant do nothing.. tonight Im giving my all to listen to some great tunage on MJs glad I caught this!
Vic Holman
scene, now that you metioned it. been some time since i've seen it.
yes a while back i added a bonus track to a song that was a start/demo. this is the finished version.... finally.
good to see ya back!
love this one!
plus i can relate, the time change messed me up for a week!
this is one nice and hypnotic track.
Vic Holman
.. is we get more day light in the eve.
right off the bat, when i started on this, it had sleepy written all over it.a good way to say bye to winter.
guitapick
...such fine songwriting and delivery...
Vic Holman
In a lot of ways I have to give Ed (EJH) credit, for some time he has been wanting to hear a acoustic tune from me. So, that was the starting point and finally had something that could work.
Thanks for the listen
Norman Goodman
What an awesome arrangement and recording......enjoyed this very very much.
Melody is very strong and acoustic playing is perfect....the strings sealed the deal.
Excellent!
Vic Holman
I was holding my breathe the whole time i would record the hybrid picking parts, string buz can drive ya nuts.
Getting the 3 string tracks and acoustic tracks mixed took some time. To close in the frequency range. The best thing is I learned something new.
Heightened
so sleep in peace.
Vic Holman
oh I sleep just fine. it's the waking up part. I should learn to go to bed earlier.
Thanks for the listen!
saymme
..your voice..reminds me of the Beatles...I'm not kiddin.
Awesome . Flowers to You -You could be at MJWoodstock w this ! tx lena
Vic Holman
the Beatles did 2 songs I'm Only Sleeping and I'm so Tired. maybe this can fill in as the trilogy ;)
I appreciate the listen!
jiguma
Lovely ballad - my niece has to write a piece on a "modern ballad" for a school assignment - I'll send her a copy of this (the alternative was going to be Lennon's "Imagine").
Lovely vocal and subtle use of the strings - I find that they are a bugger to mix. Really like the bass line you've chosen, again, subtle and perfect for the context. Like the "mando" at the end. Guitars as good as ever.
Beautiful Ozone-fuelled production too.
Really enjoyable post.
Neil
Vic Holman
hopefully your niece finds it interesting, the would be awesome.
true, 3 tracks of strings and acoustics ride the same range. lots of minor tweeking after 8 mp3 bounces. i found they want to jump up or down a bit in volume due to conversion.
And no Ozone, you'll find you won't need it in Logic 8.
jiguma
Vic, that's the best news I've heard in some time - about not needing Ozone I mean. I was getting concerned that I'd have to upgrade Ozone at yet another expense when I'll already be spending a whack on the iMac and Logic Studio.
Thanks,
Neil
Vic Holman
you get a whole lot of options and controls to work with. I pretty much have my master plug - ins set-up. I found the waveburner multi processors work the best.
rsorensen
as usual a damn great mix. very sonically pleasing all around. I absolutely LOVE the melody of the chorus too. well done! faved!
Vic Holman
well, I'm well rested now.
Sometimes the songs that seem to be an easy mix can tend to be the toughest. I'm glad this one is put to bed.
I really appreciate you taking the time to give it a listen.
I was quite content with the demo, but I'm glad you opted to take this to the next level. Beautiful melody. Nice clean guitar. Excellent production throughout. But what I like the best is the way your vox rests---nay, FLOATS---upon the sound bed. Bravo!
Be well!
Vic Holman
sweet dreams that it's off my back. it was nagging at me to take it to completion. I'm glad the vocals came across as kinda floaty. seems to fit.
Doug Somers
Beautful song here Vic, evokes the rest you describe. Well put together in all respects.
Keep well............zzzzzzzzzzz
Vic Holman
the birds are out early now a days making to much a racket in the mornings
Dj French Toast
your voice so much man . This is such a great song man . Simple and beautiful .
Vic Holman
truth is I wish I could sound like anyone else.lol.
thanks for the listen, man
I've been waiting for that acoustic tune from you. Great playing, great singing, pro. composing. It's really great, I loved that deep bass sound and the ending left me speechless.... Thanks for sharing this gem here!
Take Care

I figured it was about time to throw in a acoustic song. I'm real glad you liked it!
The sun is peekin' in on your windowsill. : )
Vic Holman
no, i don't want to go to work today. ;-)
Wow !! You are sooo talented. With a great voice as well. I love your singing. I love ths as well.
I will listen to some of your earlier ones soon. I like listening to first uploads too. :)
Peace Dee
