Hey man,
I just stared checkin out the woodstock list, and see u here as i would suspect.. I'm really hearing a Jim Morrison vox /doors drone.
this has a great live feel.
You always find the right sounds, I mean the crowd man, nice job.
This is very hip sounding stuff...
as is usual with the smokster
Imagine what Keith Moon could have done on top of your drum break.

great tune. you r a master.

peace

that JM vocal thing seems to slip out once in a while. wish i could claim it was entirely on purpose. i was mostly going after Iron Butterfly's take on the "LA sound" of the day.

thanks

MJ Woodstock. Oh so very well I might add. This has that special feel and sound of a Doors recording without a doubt. Love the overall feel of it and the way it wraps around your head and pulls you into te music.

Great piece of work here Bill that fits right in with the MJ Woodstock theme. Thanks man

Ed

thank you very much!

i guess my neurons got programmed by the music from those days, and it's just in there no matter what i do. so it's really fun to intentionally explore that realm once again...

oh man Smokey, this is wonderful! I love how you put this all together - love those low beat sounds - great keyboard work. (If that's even what it is - who can tell these days??) This might be one of my most faves of the Woodstock catalog. Thanks!

well, let's see. the keyboards are mostly loops out of GB, slightly modified. the drums are me banging on the keyboard. the guitar is a loop. the fuzz guitar is a loop, but modified for that big sweep at the end. the vocals are me sitting in my car listening to a mix on my iPod nano and singing into a m-audio micro-track. a little lime seltzer with vodka, and too much time on my hands. that wraps it up.

thanks! :-)

a rare performance from Iron Butterfly.

I was just watching a youtube of their video 'easy rider' today. I think you nailed it!

it was either this or Flowers and Beads...

ever notice how "we're livin la vida loca" is sorta like "in-a-gadda-da-vida" spelled sideways? no? hmmm... must be flashback or something

thank you sir

Nightfall &mdash 03/24/08 - 02:51:24 PM
Some of these songs have been hot summer day tunes, with a blazing sun painting sweat on my forehead as I listen to the music.

This one's night - darkness painted in vibrant floodlights hazed with sweet smoke and swaying bodies in the grass under the stars. Incredible ride, just incredible.

whoa - you're exactly right: this song and "Peace Will Prevail" are like night and day (pun and all). i had not consciously considered that. this mix has little high-end except at the end. that's probably the evening "heavy air" impression. and the moaning vocal, droning organ, and luded-out drums only contribute to that impression i suppose. hindsight is 20/20.

i fully intended to convey a sense of dusk and darkness in this song. yeah, that's the ticket. ;-)

thanks Rik

and pfffffft to Dr Lioli if he reads this.
