Description:
Shades of Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky on this one and the thought only came to me after I'd done this. I think the Genre is OK... and I'd thought with the sound it was of the Woodstock era, but Norman never performed there.... yet.... who knows? If only I'd been in the States at the time.....maybe I..... LOL. Hope you enjoy this.
Lyrics:
Dream TrainI dreamed I was travelling on a slow slow train,
The train to Paradise.
All the people on board were singing and there was laughter in their eyes.
I looked up and down for the driver,
But he was nowhere to be found.
Someone said “You gotta’ learn to drive, if you wanna keep your feet on the ground.”
Chorus.
Everybody gotta travel this road,
You can travel it low or high.
If you wanna take the high road to the Pearly Gates,
All you do is spread your wings and fly.
I dreamed I was travelling on a slow slow train,
The train to Paradise.
All the people on board were singing and there was laughter in their eyes.
I looked up and down for the driver,
But he was nowhere to be found.
Someone said “You gotta’ learn to drive, if you wanna keep your feet on the ground.”
Chorus
Everybody gotta travel this road,
You can travel it low or high.
If you wanna take the high road to the Pearly Gates,
All you do is spread your wings and fly.
I pondered the meanin’ of this dream,
As it kept running through my mind.
Keep going forward, no more turnin’ back
It’s just a one-way line.
We gotta steer a path that is wide and straight,
And welcome other people on board.
Spread a little love and laughtewr if we can.
At the end we’ll have a higher score
Repeat all and Ad Lib.

Just see you rockin' in your leathers Karen as the song whizzes round in your brain LOL. Glad you enjoyed it.... it's been going round in my head for days now, cheers M

makes it on over to Woodstock. The rhythm and lyrics pepped me up. Nice harmony, too. :-)
Moviz
Yes many faceted, but I do tend to turn the other cheek LOL. Nice that you're feeling all pepped up and stomping around. Thanks very much for the listen, cheers M
..... Rhythmen and blues. Got the swing. Nice lyrics. Enjoyed the trip on the train.
Well done.
Best Regards Claus
Moviz
for calling in Claus. Glad you liked this song, regards M

...lyric, Maurice. Nice ride that just chugs along at an even pace. You sing this with a real ease that translates well to the comfort level of listeners. ... Only suggestion I'd make would be to move up the chorus with a bit more melodic tune and an augmented instrumentation, maybe a keychange or modulation to a related key: something to give your refrain some special zip. ... Really enjoyed this number.
Peace.
Paul
Moviz
Nice to see you again. I was going to take it up a key towards the end for variety, but I'd got too far into the recording and I would have had to go right back to the beginning and start over again. I thought I might not live long to go through it again though LOL. Glad you liked it though and the lyrics, regards M
Feter
WOW ...this song rockin hard ...total suprise
my friend ...your singin just fantastic ..!!!
Groovey I got the mood You rock !!
Moviz
do say that the element of surprise is an advantage Feter LOL. So glad you enjoyed this... and I thank you for the vocal comment as I'm breaking in a new mic and wondered if it's an improvement soundwise, regards M
digitalnirvana9
I've got my ticket! Uplifting Lyrics and polished production values really make the Dream Train FLY! Peace, Norman
Moviz
liked this Norman. Thanks for the nice production comment too.... it's a first for me LOL just shows what can happen with a little help from my friends doesn't it, regards M

You're so right about Spirit in the Sky. I'm so glad you brought it up or I might have been sitting here for a long time trying to figure out, "now what does Maurice's song remind me of?" It's one of my favorite songs, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to like yours, too. :-) Of course, your song is its own thing.
I'm wondering about how you wrote this, whether the music followed the lyrics or vice versa, because there's definitely a nice marriage between the two. The music is very evocative of a train chugging down the tracks and I really love the vibe of the way you're singing it. You sound really comfortable and I love any lyrics that say "spread a little love and laughter if we can."
Also, I have to say I enjoyed reading your new biography on your main page. I remember reading some of that before, but it seems as though there's more detail now.
Moviz
Thanks for calling in and listening and I'm really pleased you like it. I did the music first and then the lyrics on this one and strangely, it was only when I'd put the right hand wailing guitar in that I realized it sounded as though it could be a companion to 'Sprit in The Sky' with that same feel. Thank you also for the vocal compliment. I do appreciate that.
Regarding the Bio; no, I haven't added anything, so maybe you're reading more into it than there is LOLOL.
I just listened to your latest posting and it sounds wonderful, regards M
ledebutant
Maybe I just had more coffee this morning, then! :-)
Hi
I think you sang it really good and made it sound fun.
rock on thats what I say. I lked it all. Thanks for sharing.
Peace Dee.
Moviz
I appreciate you calling and leaving the nice comment, regards M

Can I get a ticket.. lol.. Nice ride here my friend love it... Cheers
Moviz
Glad you came along for the ride, but you already have a ticket.... we all have LOL. Nice to see you again, regards M
Peter Bauckham
very 'Spirit in the Sky' - and very nicely put together. Takes me back to 1970!
I thought when I saw the title it was going to be about Eurostar!
All the best
Peter
Moviz
The Avatar is about 'Eurostar', as it was taken in Monmarte last Sunday morn LOL. Thanks for listening. cheers M
Ibstrat
just great Moviz. Are you actually singing those harmony parts.or is it some kind of harmonizer?Either way it sounds wonderful!
Moviz
I used the GB transformer for the harmony, but... I can do it myself LOL. It's just that I'm sure of the timing with the program and I think this song needed that precision. I used to sing ONLY harmony as part of a duo years ago and in that case, it helps to to be able to keep your eye on the other persons lips, for the timing. On my own I can't. Glad you liked this and thanks for the comment, cheers M

One of those rare songs that has to be danced on the stairs. I hate dancing, but my legs are now burning! Definite keeper, Maurice. Loved every beat. Loved every word! Terry.
Moviz
You need to dance coming DOWN the stairs not UP. That's what I do LOL (I lie) thanks for listening and the nice remarks, Terry
davisamerica2
Bless you dude!
timothy devine
What a cool tune.
Is that a slide guitar in there?
We must stop and enjoy the ride on the train. The destination is secondary.
Most of us are too concerned about where they are headed, and miss the scenery.
I love you vocals & Harmonies
bravo
t
Moviz
yes there is a slide guitar in there too..... and you've got it spot on, we have to 'fly' and enjoy life and the people around us, that's what it's all about. This journey is what you make it, so aim/drive high. Thanks for dropping in, regards M
stratcat
the groove. Excellent performance. Well done. Catchy hook. Ride that train!
Moviz
Glad you called in and enjoyed it, regards M

Great beat - like the harmonies and the lo-fi type effect on your voice.'spread a little love and laughter - at the end we'll have a better story' - love that line.Cheered me up,Maurice;'Mozza'? - cheers - Rich!
Moviz
Nice to see you're back and with a great song too. Thanks for the positive comments and pleased you feel cheered, regards M ('Mozza' if you like LOL)

That train just keep on rolling along on the way through life. I really like this Maurice, thanks for sharing it with us. The spirit of MJ Woodstock is alive and well in Wigan I can see.
Be well my friend
Ed
Moviz
The only similarity between Wigan and Woodstock is the letter 'W', believe Me LOL, Thanks for calling in here, my friend, cheers M
peacepiano
Like the "train" beat. Your voice is popping to the beat. The leads give the song a modern sound, but come close enough to the idea of train whistles to keep the mood of the beat. Toe Tapping fun!
Thanks
Bill
Moviz
liked this Bill and thanks for taking the time to listen, regards M

Wonderful groovin' track, great sound and a good vibe! Cool track, Maurice!

Moviz
Ha, ha, keep 'em guessin' LOL. You never know what's coming next... but pleased as always that you called in, regards M
thetiler
your lyrics and the music is of course the topping of the cake.
Lots of fun ! Warm feelings you bring out in your music, accented so well with your truly wonderful words.
Moviz
I think it's the symbolism in the words that you like, but I'm just pleased that someone of your calibre listens to my music. Thanks again for calling in, regards M

rocked big time! Vox was silky smooth as usual but how you worked those guitars together - masterfully done!
Moviz
rockin' LOL. So flattering to have another great artist listen to my stuff and it's very much appreciated. Thanks for the 'silky vox' comment too.... that's nice, regards M
guitapick
..."Spirit in the Sky" vibes, here. If he'd played Woodstock, this could have easily been on his set list...nice, M
Moviz

the incense smoldering from here. Great vibe- very authentic... the bonus was that it also had a great beat and you could dance to it. Nice song!
Moviz
nice of you to take the time and listen.... and nice to know that you dance as well, but I hope it's on the stairs like Terry above LOL. The smell might be my aftershave, cheers M
dajama
Love songs that move along like this, and - as others have mentioned - there is a great marriage of lyric and music on this. It had my head bopping as I listened. Great sounds, good lyrics and nice arrangement. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.
Moviz
to see you here Dave and glad you like this enough to bob your head... with me it's my shoulders LOL. Thanks for the nice comments too, cheers M

Very nice Maurice. You always do an exceptional job. I know that when I see your name on a song that I am in for a treat and this is another great treat. You have a wonderful way of writing that is always so inspirational. I admire that very much. Thanks Maurice for sharing this with us. Best to you and yours!
Moviz
managed to jump on board for the ride Gail and thank you once again for your generous comment... very much appreciated, regards M
Remark80
Really like your voice with the harmonies. The song is very catchy. I look forward to going back and listening to your other songs. Thanks.
Moviz
Glad you could make it and take a listen. Thanks for the welcome comments and I hope you enjoy my other stuff too, but there's quite a variety of genres and styles in there, regards M
bonnieprincejohnny
This is your best yet Mo, way to go. Get on board boy let's catch that train n'get on. Whoo-hooooo.
Moviz
Thanks for the approval on this and glad you liked it so much. I do appreciate the call, regards M
maurice, i do believe your list of songs covers every conceivable genre. when i saw ROCK, i had to check it out. you chose a really good groove, and the train definitely comes thru. i think the musical engine loses a little steam after a good start. i'd keep the musical volume up to emphasize the driving rhythm - you KNOW you're ready to rock, m - i think your vocal would sit better too if the surrounding music came up - your mic picks you up in a close up way - if you were to re-sing this, i'd step back a bit when you let loose into that upped music. don't get me wrong - it's really cool for you style-wise AS IS.
i think you have it in you to take it up a notch.
i felt welcomed onboard by you!
anne
Moviz
you're always welcome aboard and I thank you for your welcome advice too; it does make sense. Thanking you for the listen and the time, much appreciated, cheers M
Macaudion
Hunky big bawlsy down and dirty rockn' blues! If there were such a genre, then man, you nailed it Maurice. i like the, "don't look back", raw steadily driving force of movement behind this. I did kinda feel a need to grab for a tambourine, though. And not that it's missing cause, I wanted to play it but, live action, right here where I listen.
Good one! Thanks! Dion
Moviz
see you around here again Dion and I'm glad you liked the bawlsy rock train LOL. Hope you managed to jig along to it even without the tambourine..... thanks for the nice comment, regards M
Macaudion
can ya believe that i said that, given the context...
thanks for being so forgiving, Maurice! Dion
Moviz
All is forgiven my son LOL, cheers M
ktb
Maurice, nice bluesey jam. Your voice sits nice in the pocket and the music strikes a nice 'i'm a travelin' vibe.
Moviz
for finding the time to listen and comment, nice to see you. Yes, I'm a travellin' alright and I've not a lot further to go LOL so I keep trying different directions, regards M
damiengh
This seems so authentic in the genre. If you knock out the sound of the present day instrumentation, this sounds like it's right out of the mid to late 1800's America, religious communities of old. Sure you weren't around then........just kidding.
Your voice really helps to create that imagery.
Nice job.
Moviz
a hundred years before my time but hey, whose countin'? LOL I suppose the message hasn't changed though. Nice to see you here D and I thank you for listening, regards M
Your best yet Maurice! Great tune with loads of DRIVE. Really nice vocals throughout. Kudos my man!
Be well!
Moviz
Michael, nice to see you back and hope you're nicely refreshed. Thanks for listening and and for your comment, cheers M
Your best yet Maurice! Great tune with loads of DRIVE. Really nice vocals throughout. Kudos my man!
Be well!

This is a cracker Mo. DLed - cheers!
Moviz
good to have a good stomp now and then LOL, glad you liked it, cheers M
jiguma
First, the instrumentation sounds great - especially like the drums you're using Maurice. The "lo-fi" mic sounds perfect on this as someone has mentioned. A key change/chord change (whichever) would have added to the groove and lifted the tune. An enjoyable listen indeed.
Neil
Moviz
I hope that's solved it LOL. I agree about the key change and it did occur to me, but I'd got so far into the recording at the time that it would have meant undoing some things and redoing them. I'm getting on you know LOL, so I haven't got a lot of time left. Glad it came up to scratch though, so thanks for listening in, cheers M
Leon
Nice chugging music, Mo! I do notice the improvement in the quality of the vocal recording. It is not muffled and your new mic does bring a new sparkle to the voice. I really love the vibe of this song. Man, you are really moving into new territory in every song. Always something new.. brave and surprising. Thumbs up.
Moviz
for calling in Leon... glad you agree on the vocal. Nice comment too, but they say it's hard to hit a moving target so that's what I'm doing LOL. I just have to try different things, but it comes from when I was playing/singing live and having to please all ages and types, at all kinds of gigs etc, cheers M
Pete_NB
This just chugs right along. You vocals are right in the pocket as well.
Top shelf!
Moviz
very much appreciated, regards M
Doug Somers
Great rocker my friend. Lyrics, orchestration, singing including harmonies, the whole works are spot on. So when are you touring Canada? And thanks for the new tune for my iPod :o)
Be well,

Moviz
that's really made my day... so pleased that you liked this enough to listen more than once, regards M
Very nice Rocking piece Mr. Maurice. I enjoyed the music work and I can see that the quality is getting better. Wonderful piece!
