Description:
I was in Alaska playing Fairbanks when I heard about MJ-Woodstock, so the other guys in the band and I decided it would be a blast to take a trip to the lower 48 and see what all the fuss was about. So we piled in the van, hooked up the trailer with all the equipment in it and started down the Al-Can highway, headed for New York State.

It took us nearly 2 weeks to get there, but when we did we just couldn't believe the size of the crowds and the sounds coming from the stage.

To make a long story short, we finally convince the Man to give us a rotation onstage. We were gonna warm up the crowd for some guitar player from out San Francisco way named Jimi something or other.

Anyway, we took the stage, and the site of somewhere near 1.5 million people scared the Stuff out of us for a minute or two. Then we just said the heck with it and settled on playing one of the blues numbers we'd done in Alaska. It always seemed to get a good reaction there, and we figured we had nothing to lose.

One of the guys back stage had a tape recorder going, and we managed to swipe a copy off of him, so here it is, from the stage at the MJ-Woodstock festival, a little blues number called " Stoned Cold Lonesome Blues.

Lyrics:
Stoned Cold Lonesome Blues
Written, Played, and Arranged by Edward C. Wemmerus Sr

Verse

Well tell me now baby,

Have you ever had the blues

I said tell me pretty baby

Have you ever had those blues

Cause I got me some -a-them

Got those stoned cold lonesome blues

Ad Lib

Y'all out there having a good time tonight

Some crowd we got here,

we got about a million and a half people sitting out on the grass

Yeah, most of em smokin' it.

Yeah, look at that little chicky right down there on that blanket man

that's one fine looking flower child

Verse

Have you ever wondered baby

When you're gettin' the bad news, yeah

That it always seems to follow

You know you're gonna get da blues, yeah baby

Cause you gonna get some, yeah

Some of dem stoned cold lonesome blues

Verse 3

I got the blues now pretty Baby

I got them stoned cold lonesome blues

I got the blues pretty mama

Got them stoned cold lonesome blues

Yeah now one more time

I got the stoned cold lonesome blues

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

Thank you Feter &mdash 03/24/08 - 04:01:46 PM
I decided I wanted to do at least one really killer song for Woodstock-MJ, and this is it. I've always loved doing the Blues like this, but I haven't played anything like this in so long that I was totally out of a way to do it. In several bands I was in in the past we'd do this kind of stuff, but without my mates to get the groove down I was lost. Until now.

Now I've figured out how to get it back, and I'm loving it. Let the Blues live on forever.

Thanks again Feter for putting this festival together, it has inspired me to go back to my roots.

Once upon a time, in a lifetime long ago I used to do this kind of music all the time. To be able to do it again, at least this once has given my heart a new lease on life. The fact that you found it enjoyable makes that feeling all the sweeter.

Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement Mark, it is appreciated.

Be well my friend

It's the Blues man. Thats what it does best is tell it like it is.

I'm really glad you dropped in to the festival and caught my act. Makes it so I don't have to come down to Miami in the winter. Hey wait a minute, that's were I want to be in the winter in Miami. Oh well maybe next year.

Thanks again for the listen and the cool comment Mc, it is, as always, very much appreciated.

Be well my friend.

Kudos dude.

Thanks Jack &mdash 03/24/08 - 06:02:25 PM
And hello, I didn't know you made it to the fair tonight. Glad to see you, and even happier you caught our act. I'm also glad we're not up in Fairbanks right now, the weather up there is colder than, well you know what I was about to say.

That's a new blues number we put together about 6 months ago up in Fairbanks, and every time we played it the crowd would go absolutely nuts. I mean from the first note, they be headed out to the dance floor and start really getting into it.

Really great watching a crowd go crazy when you playing something that really fun to play.

Anyway, great to see you here tonight Jack. When you get done with your gig, come on over to out site and have a brew and a toke with us.

Be cool dude

Hey there Joe &mdash 03/24/08 - 06:08:30 PM
You got that right. Hell, one night me and the guys played that song half the night. And considering that the night up there last about 2 months, we were worn out by the time we finally shut er down.

Really glad you got to hear this one Joe. It's kinda of special to me cause it's been a long time coming, for me to come home to my roots. Always loved a great blues song, and I always will.

Thanks for the great vibe man and the kind words.

Be cool and knockem dead man

I ain't never seen this many stoned souls in one place in my entire life. But we sure are having a lot of good clean, down and dirty fun here, I'll tell ya.

Thanks for coming over and catching the act man. Really cool that you dig what's happening up here on the stand, and took time to say so.

Be cool and Rock on Dude.

Really ... &mdash 03/24/08 - 10:42:07 AM
.... good blues played on the guitar. Sounds a bit like Luthor Alison (if you know him).

Also good blues voice, Ed.

1,5 mio. people .... thats a lot .... Ed :-)

Still awesome blues. Well played.

Thanks Claus &mdash 03/24/08 - 06:35:18 PM
Glad you got to drop in for a while and listed to the blues. Oh yeah, I know a little about Luther Allison. I've heard a little of his work, and after you mentioned him I went and read some about him. He was a really awesome blues man for sure, the real deal as they say. He was born about 300 miles from where I live, on the other side of the state of Arkansas along the Mississippi River delta, in a little town called Widener, Arkansas.

Well now about that 1.5 million people, that includes the roadies for the big acts like ah let me see now, oh yeah the Jimi guy. You know, the one from San Francisco, ah, oh yeah, Jimi Hender, or something like that. Hendrix, that the name, never can remember that name for some reason. lololol

Thanks again for dropping in Claus. Glad you like this and sent some kind words along about it.

Be well my friend, and be cool.

Ed

I Ain't NEVER goin' home man! Gonna stay here FOREVER! YEEAAHHH!!!

Jeez, your voice is awesome here, Ed! And those guitars! Jeez, I'm glad I made the trip...

Awesome. Just awesome!

[ Reply to This ]
Jeez Rik, are you off on a trip, Again ! &mdash 03/24/08 - 06:52:22 PM
You need to lay off that stuff man, it's gonna blow you mind, or whatever is left of it.

I know what you mean about never going home. I can remember nights when we'd play this kind of stuff till the sun came up and even then we only quit cause we couldn't hold the guitars up any more. ( from being tired most nights, from being wasted on the others )

This kind of music reaches down inside and drags you along with it, kicking and screaming all the way. The Blues have POWER over the human soul like no other music I know of.

Thanks for the really kind words about the voice and the vocal Rik. I was really getting into it when I did this one. It was almost like being back up on stage and belting one out for the crowd at an outdoor blues festival or in a really great Blues club.

And to tell the truth about it, I haven't done that in nearly 40 years now and counting. Will I ever get to do it again? Doubtful, but It would be a lot of fun to go back there and bring it back with me. I used to be a pretty fair singer once upon a time. Doing this kind of song was always my best suit.

Anyway, thanks again for listening and for the kind words. As always, I really do appreciate them and any other comments you make.

Be well my friend

Ed

That's the coolest thing you could say right about now Tom, thanks man.

This was a journey home for me. Been a long time getting to this kind of song but I finally found my way back again. And if those youngins can't stand the heat, tell them to get out of the kitchen. They want to play with the big boys then they need to step up to the plate and swing away.

Ya know what, I'm having way to much fun here at Woodstock-MJ I'm gonna go crash for a while.

Thanks again for the cool vibe man, glad you like my Blues.

Like I said to another friend of mine on another site, this is probably the best recording I've ever done, although it probably isn't the best song I've ever written. Hey, it is what it is, straight up Blues, and a lot of fun to do.

Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words Dick. Always fun when you give me a good review.

Be well my friend

This sounds great. You can really sing the blues! This is an excellent recording.Do you have any recordings of that backstage jam you did with Jimi?

[ Reply to This ]
Oh yeah man, Me and Jimi go way back. &mdash 03/26/08 - 03:21:07 PM
Of course I've never met the man, but I know who he is, or was I should say. Then come to think of it I've never really met you either. So yes, I do have a backstage jam of me and Jimi floating around here somewhere. I'll see if I can fine it and post it.

Thanks Mark for the kind words and for coming by. Glad you like this little Blues number. It was a real treat for me to do it because I haven't done any Blues like this in nearly 40 years.

Be well my friend and keep on playing the wonderful guitar of yours.

Your talking parts cracked me up Ed. You are such a great talent. I love this song. You did an excellent job at Woodstock my friend. I love your headband baby! :) Seriously...wonderful song. Thanks for another hit. (no pun intended)

Not to worry Gail, &mdash 03/26/08 - 03:42:47 PM
there's plenty of hits to go around. Just sit your beautiful self down here on the grass (no pun intended) and have a toke, it's cool.

Thanks Gail, glad you enjoyed my little fantasy at Woodstock-MJ. It was a lot of fun to do for me, considering I haven't sung the Blues like this in almost 40 years. I always love doing a great blues song when I was making music for a living, but life got in the way of my musical career, and it's been that long since the last time I belted one out.

Thanks again for coming to the festival, and for the kind words. I'm really glad you enjoyed the show.

Be well

Ed

Glad you stopped in for a listen man and found something to like. I appreciate the kind words about the guitar and vocals my friend, they count for a lot after hearing your entry into Woodstock-MJ. You have some serious playing going on in Firefly while yourself.

Be well and say hello to the GWB for me man, I haven't seen it in quite a few years.

the phone probably rang and ... you know how it is. This is one smokin' number you got here. Killer guitar intro and smooth vocals for sure. This is the real deal man - thanks for posting and joining the party. See you at the Hog Farm later for a bowl of millet and a shot of Jack.

Glad you liked the track Bud and for coming over for a visit. Later at the hog farm for sure man, but I'll just take the Jack if you don't mind.

Be cool man and thanks again for the kind words.

when you listened to this. Oh, sorry, I wasn't supposed to ask that.

Well anyway, I'm really glad you got into the groove on this one Micheal, and found it worthy. It was sure a lot of fun for me to do it since I haven't played the blues like this in nearly 40 year. Back to my roots, and it felt soooo goooood.

Be well my friend and keep on pickin.

Hey I read your story at the top it brought a huge smile to my face but then it dropped for two reasons Smile was because you mentioned Alaska

The Dowside is I miss her like crazy. Loved this great music love your singing always have. So I reckon I got half blues now :)

Cheers Peace Dee.

The funny thing is, &mdash 04/03/08 - 11:03:15 PM
I really was in Fairbanks, Alaska when the real Woodstock was gong on, and I was playing 5 nights a week at the Polaris Hotel in the lounge with a guy named Johnny Collingsworth.

The rest of the story was just fabricated to set the mood for Feter's Woodstock-MJ and play along with the general theme that seemed to be going on for the event.

After reading you tale of half the blues, I'm gonna have to write and produce a song about having "Half the Blues' What a great title that it, thanks

Glad you liked the music. At least it took away some of the sting of missing your daughter.

Thanks for the kind words Dee, they are really appreciated. It's the way the music seems to connect us all that's what always amazes me.

Be well and tell your Daughter I said to say hello to the Polaris Hotel, if it's even still there.

Ed

Hi Dee &mdash 04/04/08 - 09:02:26 AM
I'll let you know when I get it done. I already have a rough draft of the lyrics, did them last night. Now all I need is to finish polishing them up and put together the music for it and sing the vocals.

Take care Dee and thank you again

Oh bugger..... &mdash 04/05/08 - 10:49:25 AM
this is rocking, makes me think about taking up knitting as a hobby instead of geetar 'n' stuff...sometimes I think a guitar is like a scab cos I keep on pickin' it and it never gets better.....lol

Jarvoid

PS I think the pseudo stage setting idea was brilliant

[ Reply to This ]
That's a pretty gross analogy there Chris &mdash 04/05/08 - 05:19:23 PM
But I guess we takes em how we sees em, huh. Besides, the only thing I've ever gotten out of knitting was a fur ball. Stay with the pickin' man, it ain't near as dangerous and it's a lot more fun.

This was done for the recently concluded Woodstock-MJ event that ran all last month. I posted a couple of songs, but then I noticed some of the other guys and gals posting it like it was recorded at the real Woodstock. I just played follow the leaded there cause it fit in with the theme of the show.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words and cool comments. (all except the scab thing, that was gross) lol

Glad you like the show, come on over any chance you get and we'll sit and pick scabs... er.. guitars together.

SloHand! &mdash 04/18/08 - 07:12:39 AM
What do you get when you cross SloParts' smooth voice with screaming blues riff? Ol' SloHand is Back! Back from the country for a while. Nice to hear it. Nice arrangement, vox and great lead.

Well, gotta go jump in the mud while it's still purple. See ya next trip!

[ Reply to This ]
That mud is all Jimi's fault don't ya know &mdash 04/18/08 - 03:00:53 PM
The water in that Purple Haze spawned clouds which gave us Purple Rain, and hence the purple mud. That's a pretty long way to go for Purple Mud don't you think.

Ok. I'm back now from where ever in the hell I just went. Too much LDS in the 60's I guess.

Thanks for the very kind words my friend and the "SloHand" comment. As much as that feels good to hear, there can be only one and his name is Eric, not Ed.

Glad you liked this one Bob. Keep you ears tuned, I'll have some more pretty soon I'm thinking.

Be well my friend

Ed
