Description:
Its what I feel

Lyrics:
What I Feel

Gazing at the moon..
I know I'll see you soon
But when now - I can only guess
When I try to go to sleep
I only dream about these
Demons making promises -I'll surely regret
All the colours of the rainbow
Could not satisfy my soul
I'm an animal - hungry for life
And I can't live without
Your sweet caress I need you - nothing less
So lets make love until the morning light

I see the bright sun burning in the sky
I feel the earth spinning round beneath my feet
But this can't be real
You send such sweet love across
The universe and I'm a million times the man
Thats how I feel - what I feel

People talkin crazy
I'm just sittin lazy
Got to kill the time some way
Countin down the hours
Countin every second
But Friday is still a lifetime away
Now I'm shootin up again
Drivin round the bend
I try to keep my hand in the fire
I could call you on the phone
We could chat on msn
But it ain't enough to keep me alive

(Chorus)

I see the murderes on the street
I curse the eagle in the sky
I laugh at every man I meet
Cos I know theres more to this than meets the eye
Someone tell me why..

We spin the wheel again and pray
We kiss like children in the rain
By rivers running wild and free
You find the inner voice of truth
And I will find you..

I see the bright sun burning in the sky
I feel the earth spinning round beneath my feet
But this can't be real
You send such sweet love across
The universe and I'm a million times the man
Thats how I feel - what I feel

Great bouncy rhythm, excellent vocal performance, and terrific melody. Love the keyboards, and the percussion works very well. The chorus in particular is hooky and catchy. Some fantastic imagery in those lyrics, too. "I'm a million times the man" - great line. This is great. Sounds like you're in a happy place! Nicely done, brother. Peace.

Thanks dajama &mdash 03/25/08 - 07:45:25 AM
for your generous words..I'd like to say it came about by happy coincidence, but well, its a chord progression I've had in my head for about 12 years now, just I could never find a way to use it.Yeah - guess I am - I don't often get inspired like that, unless something really good is happening in life and that hasn't happened well - for a long long time

a million times &mdash 03/25/08 - 07:46:41 AM
the song. The production is flawless. The lyrics incredible and your voice right in the pocket. But most of all I am in awe of your music. The progression, the musical flourish's that separate it from the pack, and your piano solos :-) Love the sounds

Thank you very much - I have to admit I drank er...quite alot of whiskey while I wrote the words (as a certain girl who phoned in the middle of it would testify if she were present).I think the chords progression is slightly influenced by Jeff Buckley, erm Iain Brown, and a bit of Yes in the middle part.Hope it works, anyway.

Thanks dick - music is weird. It continually baffles me how many combinations of chords and melodies there are from just 12 notes.Talking of rolls - cheese works really well with onion I discovered the other week well worth a try.Hope it continues - Richard

Like buses - except theres only one in windermere. Thanks very much Len - I'm still hooked on Mac OS 9,and I must admit its quite meticulously bodged together with bits of sellotape really.Hopefully it comes together and the joins dont show too much.Regards - Richard

Spot on &mdash 03/25/08 - 08:46:58 AM
Very inspired work. I particularly like the chorus and how it jumps to life contrasting the verse. The musical touches throughout are most appropriate and make the whole sound come together wonderfully. The synth (filtered squarewave?) that floats above the mix is a little gem in this piece. And the lyrics - so evocative!

It seems like all cylinders are firing for you Richard. Brilliant!

Keep well,
and thanks for posting for us to share.

Thank you very much doug - the synth is a jx10 plugin from mda ,it has loads of liquid portamento sounds that I love messing around with.the chorus was the only bit I could play guitar on so hopefully that bit of extra strummin helps

since visiting... not disappointed in the least with this cool little song. Though it's not little, really... In fact, in addition to it's catchy melody moving along, Paddler you have woven into the song some great instrumentation, songwriting, singing, and playing. You are one creative dude.

Thanks.... I see the bright sun...

Thanks Mr Maurice - the voice is a weird thing i think - my body has become 30 something years yet when I compare how my voice sounds to when i was 16 it doesn't seem to have changed - perhaps a couple of things got stuck somwhere, hehe.Elo - i only ever heard mr blue sky what i always ad a soft spot for that track - quite into the vocoder thing too.Highest regards - Rich

Andy &mdash 03/26/08 - 12:24:24 AM
This has the fun jangly bag of bones carnival atmosphere of the best cuts of Andy Partridge, who is one of my favs. The strings are really note worthy on this. They sound absolutely real--and tracked in a studio no less. The keys are ace as usual. Man you is on a roll is right. Keep 'em coming, I got all sorts of new iPod candy today!
Best,
Philip

Why hows it goin there Phil - good to see you around again and what creative comments you make. The strings at the beginning are real - I bought an old broken fiddle with only two strings from a junk shop and my mate later pointed out that its an old stratavarius copy - not like vastly expensive but worth more than I paid for it and just a nice old well mad instrument - would be good to get it fixed someday.I'll have to look into Andy Partridge - thanks for taking the time - Rich

Thanks Steve - you always leave great feedback.I had a good time recording this - I like it when things fit in some natural way 's like everything just stares you in the face - that break ere or there - that needs to go there etc - doesn't often come together like that . Cheers sir - Rich

Love the way this twists. I get stuck in patterns when writing but this is fantastic. Strings are excellent. Love the lead break, really well played. Production is very polished. Did you do all of this on GB?

.. &mdash 03/26/08 - 08:14:09 AM
Thanks mark - no - I have used garageband at work with kids in bands, but I don't have anything that hitech unfortunately - I'm using mac os 9 with an old software called 'Muzys' from the 90's and the also discontinued free version of protools which only allows 8 tracks.I usually do all the backing rhythms electronica etc on muzys then import it as an aiff into protools, which can be then synced up with midi by changing the tempo to match that of the aiff, then recording anything through mics over the top.The one great thing about protools is how accurately you can zoom in and cut and paste bits out.If it sounds polished - thats a bit of luck - I have a right game getting anything to come through the mic - everything utlizes sellotape I'm afraid.Cheers - Richard

OS9 - &mdash 03/26/08 - 09:53:59 AM
Saw this in your comment. Have you ever tried Opcode Vision. Really pretty powerful and you can get it for free. A lot of what is in Logic was taken from Vision, which used to be the leading commercial DAW out there under OS9. You can get it from here: http://opcodeusers.com/opcode/vision.html. All the docs are there, but there are a couple of us Vision prople out there if you have questions.

thanks Graham - what exactly is it? I downloaded all the files and my folder looks like the snapshot but theres some conflict with dae/oms at the moment so the app wont start - i might put some more effort into it if i knew what it does..is it audio multitrack/midi sequencing by any chance? if so I'd probably be interested.I like site like that for the nostalgic. If u haven't tried muzys btw I still reckon it kicks the arse for sampling - really versatile but visually dead simple.Anyway thanks again -Rich

Put this one... &mdash 03/26/08 - 07:26:38 AM
In that portfolio, or resume, or 'best of' collection that you save for showing to prospective record execs...

Wonderful pop song. One of those ones in the British pop tradition where I'm grateful to have the words written out so that after I'm done bopping along to the melody I can have a clue about the song...

Good mix, good playing, really solid vocals...

Great writing! &mdash 03/28/08 - 11:47:02 PM
It's stating the obvious to say you are extremely creative, and this is another fine example. Cool! I'm glad this got a good rating from a lot of people because it got me to notice it, and it's all quality stuff. It does sound a bit low-tech production-wise, but the writing and performance and arrangement is all so great that any production concerns are roundly trumped. Bravo!

I like the fact that you take adventurous forays in your music. This sounds quite a bit different from your other compositions, and that demonstrates your boldness in taking new directions. The melody is not predictable and it is what keeps it interesting.

I gotta listen more to your song catalogue to discern the diversity of styles that you have employed in your music.

Great job!
