The Japanese word for a firefly is "hotaru." Their eerie lights are thought to be the altered form of the souls of soldiers who have died in war.

Lyrics:
Fire fly
Are you a star that fell from the sky?
Have you come?
To ask us to answer for what we’ve done?
And how do we cleve,
with what we believe?
Firefly

Fire fly
Raising your legions from where they lie
Now they roam
Thousands of miles away from home
And what we have done
Is what we become.
Fire fly.

Fire flies
Painting a picture before our eyes
Rays have beamed
Iluminations of what we’ve dreamed
A comet that’s burning,
is consumed by its yearning
Firefly

hello &mdash 03/27/08 - 01:55:21 PM
Great lyrics. The lyrics definitely set a tense tone that is amplified by those piercing keys. When set on the bed of the cautious and anxious guitar it works very well!

In a Trance &mdash 03/27/08 - 09:16:16 PM
I don't want to ruin the pleasure trance I'm in at the moment by typing, but suffice it to say you're on repeat and I'm in love with this song. Magic.

Typing later when the spell is broken.

Back &mdash 04/05/08 - 06:49:25 PM
I'm not really sure how many times I've listened to this song since I downloaded it, but it's a lot. One of my favorite listens was when it was snowing at night (no, that's not normal weather this time of year in Seattle) and I was lying on the sofa watching the flakes drift down. The fingerpicking sounded gorgeous with that. An airplane was flying overhead, very low, and the lights were cutting through the snowflakes just as the electric solo kicked in. It was one of those magical musical moments and I'll think of it every time I listen to this song, Rene.

One of the things you're so good at is creating a mood with music, whatever the mood might be, it's not always "moody," if that makes any sense. Your vocal here plays so beautifully against the guitars and I think everyone should study this song in Tasteful Use of Reverb 101. You used it so well to create so much space and magic.

Thank you for this beautiful song that I'll be listening to for years to come. Please make more and don't take so long!!!
xo Lisa

Haven't seen you around here for some time Rene - lovely song, beautifully played and sung. Some odd rhythmic things in there which work well. Clean and clear production sounds great. Welcome back to MJ.

Two voices &mdash 04/15/08 - 07:14:41 AM
Wow! That's a very fine voice you have! I like the way you sound like two different people; "Fire fly" is sung with a gentle, softer quality, but some lines are sung with a fuller voice, almost like another singer has jumped in. I'm impressed! Very effective, and very expressive. Profound poetry, and the music has a haunting quality. Fantastic!

Great! &mdash 04/27/08 - 02:22:23 AM
Yes, real deep vocal. The guitar playing is killer. What effects you used to make it sound like that? The drums and the background keys are just fine. But my only suggestion is that why when the electric guitar enters the background is low and especially the guitar?
But really a fine piece of work. KUDOS!

Take Care

bigger sound coming &mdash 05/02/08 - 08:57:06 AM
The guitar sound is from my home made electric guitar with which I use an amp/speaker modeler called Pandora's Box. It is made by Korg. That is the maximum output I could get out of the guitar after recording it with, alas... garage band. I did it on the first take and after playing it back I thought... oh yeah, I better not try again. I admit I am not much of an engineer. Any suggestions are welcome. Also I have bought logic express and will be using that in the future so I should have a much greater dynamic range to work with.
