Keywords:
sometimes i am really glad i'm married (1)sad-core (2)weekend at bernies (1)
Description:
So yesterday my baby spilled a whole bottle of milk on the couch and i had to take the slip covers to the laundromat. While i was there i ran into a friend who told me that he was going to break up with his girlfriend because the relationship had become like "weekend at bernies" (they're just propping the thing up for appearances sake). after he left i wrote this on the little casio that I brought with me. woke up this morning, hit record and this is it.

he's kind of a gloomy guy, so i made the feel pretty plodding and melancholy. the picture is one of his paintings, he's a really great artist.

Lyrics:
i've been around here now for far too long
i need some passion in my life
it's long overdue lets go our seperate ways
you must be high to think it's right

(chorus)
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me
you can hold a torch but i'll be leaving anyway
i don't wanna be the one to rain to rain on your parade
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me

i feel the need to get away from you
i can go anywhere i choose
i'm sorry but i don't want to be involved with you
i need some passion in my life

i see myself in someone else's eyes
i wonder why i live my life this way

you don't want to know the way i feel inside
and you don't wanna see what's in my head
let me pull you close and share the things i dream about
suicide and puppy dogs and pretty girls

(chorus)
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me
you can hold a torch but i'll be leaving anyway
i don't wanna be the one to rain to rain on your parade
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me

i don't want to be here
i don't want to stay
i don't want to be here
i don't want to stay
i don't want to be here
i don't want to stay
i don't want to be here
i don't want to stay

(chorus)
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me
you can hold a torch but i'll be leaving anyway
i don't wanna be the one to rain to rain on your parade
you can say it's right but it feels wrong to me

Sad &mdash 03/27/08 - 03:50:36 PM
A sad song but good mix... I like the way you sing this it's get the right feelings to it.. Very cool done but in a sad way... I hope your friend can survive this break up OR better they stay together and fix all the bad ghost. If you know what I mean.

Take care

so glad you liked that. i tend to do things not caring what people think of them, and then i always hope that people do enjoy them. thanks so much for giving this one a moment, i appreciate it.

Great intro &mdash 03/27/08 - 05:59:46 PM
to a song that drips with melancholy. Somehow the idea of you writing this in a laundromat gives it extra pathos! The lyrics are very well done - filled with memorable lines ("let me pull you close and share the things i dream about/suicide and puppy dogs and pretty girls" - killer line, man) and culminating in the chorus which is almost humorous in tis juxtaposition of the contradictory ideas. A spark of inspiration, and a testament to the complexity and risk of relationships. Nicely done. Peace.

thanks &mdash 03/28/08 - 02:24:57 PM
for listening and for getting it. my friend is a dark and wildly funny guy, so there is supposed to be a bit of that in here. i like the line about suicide and puppy dogs too (rare that I like any of my lyrics). thanks so much man.

Beautiful organ intro.. And the rest of the song is so sad and beautiful. I like the Beats that appear in the ending of the song. The song is very long, and the tempo is slow, and I loved every second of it. You have managed to keep the song going and growing all the way to the end, which can be hard when the song is long! Your voice is beautiful, and you sing in a very passionate way, the way you sing it suits the song perfect! Thank you very much for this lovely tune!

so much. i didn't realize how long it was until i read your comment and checked the time. maybe i should set up GB so that it goes by time instead of bars. thanks so much though, i'm really glad that you liked this one as I wasn't very sure about it.

karmatoburn. very nice of you to say. definitely prefer when they just kind of come out on their own (i don't have the patience to slave over something). thanks for listening.

for stopping by. as far as george harrison goes, i'd unconsciously rip off the beatles even if i wrote a speed metal song. you are too kind sir.

I like the way you put your songs together, nice moods in this M2

Hey I have a request, make the next song her point of view, which might be a challenge, actually you make it sound like he is the one who has given up on the relationship, which is probably what you got from talking to him

too true &mdash 03/27/08 - 08:51:46 PM
sometimes ya gotta peel away the mask. it happens, But lucky for me I'm not a gloomy guy.

Cool choice of synths and beats, production is great as well. During work this afternoon, I checked MJ and played this for my art department. Didn't tell them who or what. After the song was over... the guys were saying wow, that is great, who is that? See you don't need my word for it.

great song &mdash 03/27/08 - 09:43:48 PM
I like this song Michael. You did a great job here conveying the meaning of the song and it is very somber indeed. If there is any hope at all, I guess it would be that it is good that your friend is breaking up before marriage and not after. Either way he sounds miserable. Back to you....sorry about that. You know I like your voice so much. You always do a great job. Thanks for sharing this.

Low fi gem &mdash 03/28/08 - 01:28:19 AM
This reminds me of your earlier work, when i first got into you, the great throwaway melancholic vocal. The tempo and feel are fantastic - totally suits my insomnia.

You just amaze me Michael - how quickly you can put together a really great song. If I even could write music like this (not to mention sing), I'm sure it'd take me weeks (if ever) to come out the other end with a production of this quality. This is a total keeper - guess you should go hang out at the laundromat some more! Thanks

Bitter sweetness, abounds... &mdash 03/28/08 - 12:45:44 PM
The first few notes and then, all the rest settled me right into the dumps but w/ a sense of palitable, sweetness. Damn! you're good! I like your synth and electronic drum work on this Michael! And of course, your voice does this piece quite the serving of justice.

Beautiful writing. And I'm not just sayn' that, either! This is truly an amazing work of beauty and pain. And GOD, have I been here too many times but, this is the best that it's tasted in a long, long time.

Thanks, Michael! Dion

Casio-core &mdash 03/28/08 - 02:35:54 PM
at its' finest. Love the slow deliberate pace and the sonic field is full of cool modulations. Excellent lyrics and vox. The wobbly low synth is perfect in the chorus - very Eno/Bowie.

lots of feeling and a cool DIY feel. I've heard you have a punk past. Could come in handy soon.

Michael .... &mdash 03/28/08 - 11:45:32 PM
I always look forward to your posts because I know I am gonna enjoy what I am about to hear . and this is no exception .... wonderful - you conveyed just the right amount of melancholy and (could I hear sighing) ??? I found myself sighing while listening ... p.s. my son used to dump his milk in my car ... different kind of laundromat for that one.

I think this may be my favorite of yours!

For one, it's just my style. I love the joining of contrasting sounds: the astronaut breathing, somber vocals (oh they're fantastic!), and music box keys (oh those descending scales!). Gorgeous.

Consider it downloaded and into my i pod.

I can almost hear .. &mdash 04/08/08 - 04:59:10 AM
.. the dryer spinning in the background.

In the Blur mould - minutae of life in a meaningfully plodding beat. Like the back story - very interesting (although, not uplifting) post Michael.
