Lovely stuff! Those cascading notes really match the picture. I always thought that one day I'd play as cleanly as that. I'm still waiting :)

Painter man... &mdash 03/28/08 - 12:16:43 PM
Mark, i was just listening to one of your most recent recordings that shall remain unnamed for now because, folks don't yet have access to it but, I was listening and thinking, "wow... this man must have been born w/ a guitar in his hand"... (I tried not to imagine how yer ma felt about it...LOL)
Mostly, I am struck w/ how vividly and seemingly, effortlessly, you paint such amazing works of art! The other thing that strikes me is, how they seem to sound happy and sad at the same time. Not sad in a way that would have me believe that you're a sad person, but a type of sadness that evolves from a place of an ability to deeply care. Maybe care isn't the right word - I didn't mean "care", like, as in overly concerned - more like you just seem to be in touch w/ the right emotion at the right time and ya just happen to be able to clearly express it, musically at least, and not w/ the sense that you're wallowing but, just passing through and sharing a mindful thought about it.
Beautiful work, as usual, Mark! Thanks for sharing! Dion [ Reply to This ]

my Mom did say it was a very difficult birth... I'm glad you like the song. That happy/sad thing is one of my favorite things about music. If I'm putting that across at all that's great!

Is there a style you don't have rockin'? &mdash 03/28/08 - 01:14:39 PM
Great tune - and tone. You get so much music out of six stings and ten fingers. Amazing. [ Reply to This ]
Here are &mdash 03/29/08 - 09:06:09 PM
a few styles that I am quite horrible at- Bluegrass:Don't know the difference between Salt River and Salt Creek(Is there one?).Flamenco:Can play a fairly convincing Malaguena if asked by a drunk.Metal:With lots of distortion can fool my students by playing tapping part from Eruption. Can also play intro to Thunderstruck which impresses 14-year olds.Classical-used to be pretty good but haven't played acoustic in years because of hand pain. Can play some Bach pieces on a strat-they sound extra good with a wa-wa pedal...I could go on... thanks for your support,I need to go practice Salt creek(River)

One day you're &mdash 03/28/08 - 03:38:45 PM
going to post a track and i won't be amazed by your playing, rhythm, sense of dynamics and melodic genius! Actually, maybe not. Certainly not today. This is excellent. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I can only dream of playing like this. It is such a pleasure to hear this wonderful music you share with us. Great piece. Nicely done. Peace. Mark - you are clearly one of the best guitarists at MJ - especially in this style. This tune amazes an agricultural guitarist like myself - so many notes, so little time :)
Outstanding playing and timing.

Mark, another beautiful melody played with that clean touch of yours out of that amazing sounding non-archtop.
I sent the link to this to Ken Hatfield, for I thought he might enjoy as much as I.

Haunting &mdash 03/29/08 - 01:47:21 PM
This is beautiful; haunting, moving, charming, both dark and light... just beautiful! I hesitate to say anything even remotely critical, because I like it so much, but I wondered about the amount of reverb you use... more than I like, I guess, but maybe it's central to the sound you're going for, in which case ignore this comment!
Great work here. You're an amazing talent. [ Reply to This ]
You are &mdash 03/30/08 - 12:40:24 PM
right about the reverb.I would have loved to have played this on my nylon string but this weird pain syndrome just won't go away.I've been messing with the sound to compensate for the really light strings I am forced to use.I'm very glad you like the song! [ Reply to This ]

Which, in turn, gets me happy...

The notes seem to roll off your strings like the water off the falls in your picture - naturally and with great beauty. You have nailed it as far as the style is concerned making a thoroughly enjoyable piece that captures your love of that part of the world.
Thanks for sharing!

I'm completely taken aback by this piece. I used to dream of playing jazz guitar - not this well, even! Now I just play A jazz guitar (Hofner Jazzica)! I can see you holding video iChat lessons here (for pay).
Just curious: What is that guitar you're playing? Strings - fretless? Neck pickup vs. bridge pickup? [ Reply to This ]
Thanks &mdash 04/10/08 - 09:19:16 PM
The guitar is an old Ibanez Strat copy (77?) that I bought for $100.There's a picture of it on my song "Jazz Bluez Jazz".I've been having a weird pain syndrome in my left hand for a few years-this is really the only guitar that I play. For some reason it bothers my hand very little.I use real light strings because of my hand, mostly the front or front 2 pickups unless I'm playing rock.It does have frets but they are pretty worn down! Are the ichat video lessons a real thing? Thanks for the comment.I much enjoy your music. [ Reply to This ]
