Woodstock (21)
Description:
Woodstock Project.

I grabbed an old flute I had. It's made of PVC pipe with holes drilled into it. It has been years since I played it, so please be kind!

Otherwise, I tried to give it a live sound, which is harder than it seems, for me anyhow.

I don't know if I tried to emulate anyone, except a general feeling of the era. Who knows?

Blow your minds!

Thanks and Peace,
Doug

Lyrics:
Sunshine upon my window
Rain on my face
Goin' out to see my baby
Found this place
Where dogs tear into houses
In their race
To steal my soul and take it
From this space

I beg that when you find me
In this place
Remember all those moments
Spent in grace
Against the cold and darkness
You can brace
And pull me back to sunlight
From this space

computer, flute and guitars

Love this &mdash 03/29/08 - 05:39:54 PM
The guitar sounds good, and the flute has a pretty amazing sound for something made out of pipe - is that true? Those lyrics are great - amazing imagery and brilliant ideas. Nicely done. Peace.

Thanks Dave! &mdash 03/29/08 - 05:58:48 PM
Yup, true. It's a flute made of pipe. It's played on the side, and blown accross the hole, just like a real instument. I picked it up at a local art fair about fifteen years ago.

Thanks for the comments!

Thank you sir! &mdash 03/29/08 - 06:04:32 PM
It was a lot of fun and not too serious. But I think I did manage a few good things, here. The audience was great! After the performance they were throwing roses up to us (me, myself and I) on the stage!

Thanks, Feter for the opportunity!

You Rock man... The first part of that acoustic guitar made me think of zeppelin... Very good mixing to this amassing song... Bravo

You really captured the woodstock feel here, the flutepipe is very distinct sounding, nice going!

Thanks TW &mdash 03/30/08 - 01:11:34 PM
The challenge of the day was getting anything good from the flute. Yet, to give the live feel, I kept a bit more mistakes than Usually get through.

Peace,
Doug

Sound like something I would have done in 1966 &mdash 03/29/08 - 08:42:26 PM
3 years before Woodstock, in 1966. It also sound very true to the era and it does indeed sound like a live performance. An excellent track Doug.

Very cool and fits the theme perfectly. Thanks for sharing. Somehow I missed it the trying to go down the list and listen to all the songs that were done for Woodstock-MJ

Be well my friend

so mellow &mdash 03/29/08 - 09:28:24 PM
this is tremendous!

thanks

p.s. somehow you made me think of this:

I like beer, and I like cheese
I like the smell of a westerly breeze
But what I like more than all of these
Is to be on horseback

Hey and away we go
Through the grass, across the snow
Big brown beastie, big brown face
I'd rather be with you than flying through space.

I like thunder, and I like rain
And open fires, and roaring flames.
But if the thunder's in my brain,
I'd like to be on horseback

Some like the city, some the noise
Some make chaos, and others, toys.
But if I was to have the choice,
I'd rather be on horseback.

Some find it strange to be here,
On this small planet, and who knows where.
But when it's strange and full of fear,
It's nice to be on horseback.

Some are short, and others tall,
Some hit their heads against the wall.
But it doesn't really matter at all,
When you happen to be on horseback.

So if you you feel a little glum,
To Hergest Ridge you should come.
In summer, winter, rain or sun,
It's good to be on horseback.

You know, I'd rather be on horseback.

(Mike Oldfield of course)

Thanks for the listen. Yah, I can see a connection. But more important, I haven't heard Mike Oldfield in a long time! Gonna have to dig some albums out, now that I reattached my turntable to my stereo!

Peace,

if there was an award.... &mdash 03/30/08 - 09:16:07 PM
for authenticity you'd certainly be in the running. Music really fits the time perfectly. In the aftermath of Woodstock, the Hog Farm helped set up this homesteading community in Norton, VT called Earth People's Park. It was free land- you had to essentially stake your claim... every summer they'd hold a concert/ festival to raise money to pay the annual property taxes... I remember hearing music so much like this. Granted, I was just six or so but some things you just don't forget!

Cool song!

Glad for your visit!

Thanks for qualifying the mood of this tune! In the end, it's always a shot in the dark, for me.

Were you a farmer, too?

[ Reply to This ]
Not a Hog Farmer &mdash 04/02/08 - 01:10:08 PM
but we did live in the Park for over a year... my folks moved there in the dead of winter (and it's a brutal place) with five kids in tow (between ages 2 mos to 7 years). It started to get really weird with all kinds of transients, especially in the summer- that's about the time they decided to move back into the more mainstream society.

I really like how the song builds. It's very relaxed. What did you use for the crowd noises? I was born in 1980 but can still appreciate classic rock. Very well done Doug!

That four bomb is just ridiculous. I hope that you accumulate enough votes that it becomes statistically anomalous and the filter eventually removes it.

I love the feel of this, Doug. It absolutely feels live (digging the 'thank you' at the end). The lyrics are really, really interesting, too and I think the flute adds somthing very different to the song. Very nice work!

Well hi-dee hi Lisa! &mdash 04/02/08 - 12:52:11 PM
Yeah, it always seems kind of funny when people blatantly ruin the systems for personal gain.

I've kind of learned to look at the trends rather than the totals.

Glad you like the tune! And the "Thank You" was originally right after the last note. But then I thought. (Song ends... rest... lift head...) "Thank you." Funny that you noticed! The only thing I would have done differently is to put a bit more emotion into the vocals. It's always the better performance in the living room than back in the study - with the equipment.

Peace,
Doug

Ok Mark... &mdash 04/02/08 - 01:04:59 PM
So I'm a bit of a nerd. On top of the three layers of crow and festival sounds, I added an airplane passing and flies buzzing the mic.

Thanks for the generous comment! I really liked your montage of guitar work for your entry!

That made me laugh. Clever composition especially, the beginning. I totally got the vibe of hanging out and waiting for the good stuff! And it arrived to be as organic and as real as I imagine you to be. Well, I never quite imagined that you were organic, but I doubt that you care much about your eggs being free range. I could be wrong though. I have gotten the hit that you're fairly close to the earth in some ways, though.

Nice lyrics, laid back vocals, overall setup and vibe. Quite clever. I haven't been listening much to the Woodstock entries because I didn't think that I'd be able to connect in any way but, you just proved me wrong. Thanks for the connection, sir. Impressive illusion you've created. I like the whole thing, as you can prolly tell.

Peace.

Hey Dion! &mdash 04/04/08 - 01:59:17 PM
Glad to entertain!

As far as organic, I don't get into inorganic foods. I think that includes that plastic fruit my mom kept in a bowl on our dining room table when I was growing up. My wife, Marily, has gotten me interested in the flavor quality of organically grown foods. Although, if it were totally up to me, we would be eating a bit more chips and fried chicken! As I get older, I'm discovering that some of those good foods tend to bite back in certain ways!!!

You know it's always a pleasure to have you visit. I'm happy that you found some redeeming quality in the style I picked.

Thanks for seeing the show!

Peace back at you,
Doug
