Description:
This was written one night... yes, at 3 AM... when I found myself blocked and just started plucking away at my guitar. The song really did just "come out," and if I say I WASN'T pissed off at my "then" boyfriend... would you believe me? Didn't think so. Anyway, I just love this song so much, and couldn't believe I hadn't shared it wit'choo's!

Lyrics:
i left behind
i left behind a note
it had your name written on it
i hope you read it
i hope it made you cry

i wrote my pain
i hope you felt the same
i hope it felt like a knife went
into your heart when
you read my words goodbye

does a broken heart really bleed?
oh bleed for me
it'd make me so happy
if you would bleed for me
my pen is now my sword

it took no time
it took no time at all
i put the pen to the paper
the words just came out
i didn't even try

can a broken heart really bleed?
well look at me
i hope you're happy
this ink is all over me...

Sorry about that. &mdash 03/30/08 - 09:06:32 PM

I was a bit taken aback by your story that you made the guitar tune up
I sent you a note about this too. cheers
Peace Dee .

Excuse me &mdash 03/30/08 - 09:33:01 PM
Who are you? I wrote this song, in my home, in my studio, about 2 years ago, and I have the COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION to prove it. That is ME playing the guitar, in succession of notes that I wrote, and singing my lyrics, melody and harmony. There is nothing at all similar between my song and your song called "SMILE," which is all loops anyway. As I said in my note to you, you did a good job manipulating the loops, but it sounds nothing like my song. NOTHING.

a calm kind of pain... &mdash 03/30/08 - 09:52:29 PM
...in your voice as you sing this.

I love the softness of your voice contrasted to the staccato words. Wonderful harmonies.
There is something about taking pain and creating something beautiful from that pain--a wonderful irony i will never be able to understand.
But this is beautiful, even in its sadness.

thank you for sharing

Well &mdash 03/31/08 - 01:39:05 AM
It's too damn bad the kerfluffle over the song origins seem to have caused you to get some serious bombs in the ratings because this is, as usual, better than 98% of what gets posted here and deserves more recognition. You're always so great when you do these absolutely spare pieces with your beautiful harmonies at the center. This would work as an acapella piece, but the tiny bit of guitar really solidifies it and makes it into a SONG. I've always admired your artistry and soul so much.

peaceful &mdash 03/31/08 - 04:02:59 AM
doesnt sound like you're mad at him to me sounds like you want him to feel your pain so you know he loves you i often think the same way. 3am turns out the best music. you've got a pretty nice voice.

Great &mdash 03/31/08 - 05:20:18 AM
Your singing really reminds of the late Kirsty MacColl - crystal clear and lovely harmonies. The sparse guitar leaves loads of room for your voice to fill the space and gives it a great atmosphere (just like you would get at 3 a.m. when it's quiet). Great job!

Hey Stacey &mdash 03/31/08 - 05:52:57 AM
This is just an excellent song....simple and sensitive. Sometimes honesty
says it best. On occasion the hardest part is, making that creative part of yourself take a seat so you can just talk in your lyrics. The vocal is also perfect for this song.

Hello again &mdash 03/31/08 - 06:32:06 AM
Is there any chance you could redo the guitar using the same settings that you used on "I missed you (take 2)"? The guitar on that sounds realy nice.

Sad song with sweet emotion running all over it. You sing and write well and I really enjoyed the harmonies. Great job. Thanks for sharing with us.

Another installment for *Wounded: (The Stacey Diaries*). :P

Don't you ever hitch up with any winners? lol Well, if nothing else, this steady procession of putzes seems to provide you with an exhaustive songwriting resource... *Lemon-Aid*, to be sure. ;)

haha Joe. Same guy, mostly. I did get lots of fodder from his lies and deceit, if nothing else except sharper senses!

There was a kerfluffle? &mdash 03/31/08 - 06:30:03 PM
The things I miss by going to work.

This is another strong lyric, Stacey, and another strong vocal.

It actually reminds me of a song I wrote a long time ago which had a similar alternating bass figure under everything... Sometimes that steady whomp under the thumb is a neat base to build on...

Kerfuffle &mdash 03/31/08 - 08:35:58 PM
Oh yea, there was a kerfuffle. Sheesh, but the guilty party is negligible. So small in my world as to be insignificant.

Anyway, I would love to hear your song with the alternating bass line! Would you post it? Or is it already posted?

Thanks,
Stacey

The vocal on this &mdash 03/31/08 - 09:03:42 PM
is beautiful. Nicely restrained vocal performance that's all the more powerful for its quietness. Lovely harmonies and clever, biting lyrics. Nicely done. I'll be taking the time to check out more of your music. Never ceases to amaze me how it's possible to miss so much good music in this place! Once again, very cool. Peace.

Enjoy &mdash 04/02/08 - 12:23:37 AM
the song of course is sad, you do a very nice job with the Johnny Cash type back and forth electric guitar sound. Love that trademark Stacey singing.

Thanks for sharing
