Description:
so i had taken out my electric guitar with its sad 4 strings tonight after reading the cbgb's post and was randomly recording some hard riffs and such, and than was led to an idea i had when i recorded unbreakable which was to take one song and make an entire album based on that one song or instrumental. i find that my quick simple songs sound the best and with unbreakable i had recorded a simple 4 chords played with two rhythems the second rhythem using the power chords of the chords. same progressions. anyways to cut to the point i took that same track cut it down to just the chord progression and than messed around with playing lead guitar over it. ive been experimenting a little more lately with putting lead guitar or melody parts over my songs to make them more interesting and because i love playing melodies i just never could combine it with my song playing before. so this is just me taking the same song unbreakable and free playing some melody over it.
as an after thought if anyone wants to tinker with the idea's here the progression is AEDE very simple. i played it with a capo on the second fret since i hate the A chord lol. the melody was based mostly off of starting on the root note of the chord and going down to the third with variations n such.

nice reentry. Looking forward to what your 4 strings can do next.

thanks &mdash 03/31/08 - 06:59:41 AM
hehe thanks. i like the idea on this one so i think i'm going to flush it out and perhaps sing one of my poems over or perhaps leave it an instrumental.

thanks, ive always loved playing melody stuff but i never knew the chords well enough to play it over anything really. with this since its such a simple progression and one i know very well now i was able to play and not have to think too much about what notes would work

glad you enjoyed &mdash 03/31/08 - 07:17:33 AM
thanks, i always forget how much more comfortable an electric feels in my hands lol and how much easier it is for playing melodies.

choice chance &mdash 03/31/08 - 11:02:15 AM
A good listen. Relaxing and flowing. I'd like to hear some slap bass with this. Maybe a little Southern organ, too. That would round it out nicely...give it what orchestral composers call "spacing" (a well-distributed range of voices from low to high).

if only i had any of those instruments lol. slap bass would be interesting. my friend got mad cuz he was trying so hard to be able to play slap bass i borrowed my other friends bass for a week and became better than him when he was the bassist and me the guitarist lol. organ would perhaps be interesting. thanks for the comment it's appreciated as always

Thanks, Selts. Not sure if we should do any more with it. Should we? I suppose I should ask Chance for permission!

mess around all you want &mdash 04/02/08 - 09:26:53 AM
oh mess with it all ya want. i think i need to get out the pen and paper and write out the melody so i can make it more structured. i was free styling it on this one just going with a basic theme.

Relaxing &mdash 03/31/08 - 12:25:08 PM
This is very mellow and relaxing. Kind of has a Jack Johnson feel to it. I can picture palm trees swaying in the breeze or one of those Corona commercials looking out at the beautiful ocean. Get some lyrics, flesh it out with some more instrumentation and this one is a winner!

thanks &mdash 04/01/08 - 09:12:52 AM
thanks, i will prolly sing one of my poems over it. over time i shall prolly go with my idea of taking the same base guitar track and putting a bunch of different songs over it.

melodic chords &mdash 04/01/08 - 09:16:05 AM
the chords are the same track from unbreakable deleted everything but the rhythem guitar and played a different melody over it than on the other song. it is a pretty nice progression though. i like it because it gives a lot of room for putting good vocal melodies over it. ussually pppl would play ade instead of aed it does sort of sound better chord wise, but there's so many options for vocal melodies the other way. especially melodies with the notes right next to eachother. glad you enjoyed :)

i like &mdash 04/02/08 - 11:53:35 AM
very much. that melody you're playing is great and i love the sound of the rhythm guitar. should be in a film as is, has a definite mood to it. 4 strings huh? that's cool. we should have a challenge where people record a song and they can only use the A string. great job.

thanks &mdash 04/02/08 - 12:42:15 PM
its a good chord progression. it works in any key and sounds pretty. thanks for the listen. if you listen to unbreakable it's the exact same track on the rhythem guitar.
