Lyrics:
MARY JANE AND THE MAGIC POWDERS
By Bernardo Barreto

Mary Jane was a street junkie
I was just a drunk
I met her in an alley on my way back home
She asked me if I wanted her to come along.

I was wasted and I didn't care
So she came with me to my apartment
To my home sweet home.

She played some Bob Dylan
And took off her clothes
Her arms covered
With some long black gloves.

That was sexy I though
But I was too tired to play
So I just watched her walk around
And doing her thing.

I thought her thing was cocaine
But instead it was smack
I wasn't a junkie,
So I had never been around that.

Curiosity got me
And I decided to try
She told me I shouldn't
I wasn't the kind.

She probably doesn't want to share I thought
But instead she grabbed me and filled my nose
I fell back on my bed
And I swear I though heaven
Had come down to earth.

Well...morning came soon
Erasing all the sins of the night
She was gone with the sunrise, vanished by the light.

All she left was a memory
Some cheap lipstick and the smell of white dust.

Good slow swing &mdash 04/01/08 - 09:59:32 AM
Music, vocal and lyrics match excellent you can almost 'smell' the atmosphere and mood. Tragic souls but a part of life .... every one have a past and someone no future.

Blues with a kind of slow jazz swing .... Good work.

Interesting backdrop &mdash 04/03/08 - 06:30:04 AM
and the lyrics and concept are very good. The only thing I notice about a lot of your songs is that the vocal cadence and the way you sing is very similar in each song... for an exercise I read the lyrics before listening and what I heard in my head was almost exactly how it sounded.

Musically, this is interesting but I would really like to see and hear you step out more vocally and experiment with different vocal ranges. You hold a tune well... but again, I think you could challenge yourself more with the melody.

You have such a great, distinctive sound Barretok. The lyrics here, though heartbreaking, are so perfect for the music. BossHook used the word "alluring" - I have to agree, well put. Congrats on another winner!
