Song Description

Watch this video first.

With apologies. I know I have changed the tenor of his talk for dramatic effect.

The letters of the following poem are interpreted as amino acids into codon triplets. Then the triplets are mapped to musical notes A, C, G and D. (D standing in for T). The harp playing throughout is playing the code...

This poem will be written by Human Mark II...

concept you've got here. Seeing the song name got me curious and I wondered what the heck "T" was for. I wish that "D" could replace "T" in other things too, like Tough to Dough ;^P

Seriously though, I enjoyed this one!

making cells that breathe in CO2 and excrete Octane is a great idea!

this is powerful tech -- it could be used for good or evil -- as all tech can be.

i hope for the best

thanks

this poem will be written by a Transhuman - Human Mark II.

they won't necessarily care about the mere Human genome.

excellent &mdash 04/04/08 - 08:41:25 AM
I like the way the rhythms play off each other, very Glass. Also like the idea of post-human music - would it exist? This is conceptual music of the finest kind - funky and provocative.

I just returned from Simon's Rock &mdash 04/05/08 - 09:32:54 PM
where my daughter was interviewing for the AEP merit scholarship - and as I participated in a panel discussion with some students I felt like I was in the X Men movie - hanging out with some super power kids - that's how brightly their intellect shone. They were all 15 - 17 years old.
It was a great day - and this is a wonderful end to the day. Can't quite explain how appropriate it seems - but I know how it feels.

Thanks.

Fun! &mdash 04/07/08 - 10:32:33 AM
I love the idea of parallel patterns existing between music and nature, whether DNA or long-chain molecules or mathematical patterns. Tool losely used the fibonacci pattern as the rhythmic basis to their Lateralus album to great effect:

I dig the bright, throaty bass against the harp. The soft, vocal-like synth chords are also very effective. The melody has a wandering quality that implies a pattern as it circles particular tones.

this kind of music is fun to do - you toss out most of the usual rules, and make up your own.

it really appealed to me to code the poem into proteins, and then into codons, then into amino acids, and finally into musical notes. it's somehow both mystical and scientific at once.

thanks
