Description:
its a pop song dammit!

ILoveVariousJeremy - Great Thumpin Bass Guitar
ILoveVariousDaleks - Weird Noises and Scary Sounds
and Drums On Demand
Lyrics:
Before bakelite, single slices white
What is going through my head right now? Left right, what second sight?
I was so devout but I had major doubt
I had fingers in my mouth, oh wow, I got saved in time, It was razor fine
I had form, I made out, I had far too many things
Where are they now?
I got bright got my first taste of bakelite
No more plasticine, some amazing machines
Whose are those fingers in my mouth , oh wow
I was phasing out, too much craze aloud
I had form, I ate out, I took far too many things
Where are they now? I got tight
Got my first taste of bakelite
Now I got wash and wear, polyester hair
What is going through my head right now?
Is it writer's cough? I can't shake it off
My bad form, fade out, thought i made so many friends
Where are they now?
Got bored, and I hit restart
Couldn't tell my friends and enemies apart
But I got back right
Got my first bite of bakelite

Wow - I'm first on the scene &mdash 04/12/08 - 09:35:27 PM
and this is a great song. I love it when a few clicks brings a complete surprise from someone I've yet to discover. Gotta see what else you've got - seems you just joined this party - welcome. I really like the weight and humor and invention. Reminds me a little of Nick Lowe and Kevin Ayers - two faves. Nice meeting you. [ Reply to This ]
First off the rank &mdash 04/13/08 - 02:46:15 AM
Nick Lowe is one of the great producers and songwriters and i think i'd be a little short of breath at that altitude! Thanks Bud and great meeting you too [ Reply to This ]
Wow! &mdash 04/12/08 - 09:57:28 PM
This is rock solid stuff. Good groove, reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on but oh so very original.
The lyrics are written by a poet.
I can dig it. [ Reply to This ]
It had to come from somewhere &mdash 04/13/08 - 02:51:30 AM

Silvertones &mdash 04/13/08 - 05:42:32 AM
Thanks Peter Im havin fun here so far - the guitar is an old early 60's Silvertone semi which i bought recently - it screams real nice when i hit it and the fretboard plays like an acoustic so its been fun to write on. One of the main inspirations for the song was actually getting this guitar because it reminded me of the old acoustic i had when i was a kid - all those centuries back! [ Reply to This ]

Now that was a cool as hell, train wreck! What of a sensible mind that wouldn't be able to relate to the craze of "bakelite" action...
What a writer. Great execution, from head to toe.
Curious, how this came about.
Every note went towards making this happen but, it was those last bit of twangy things that pushed down hard on my body tingle button and it made me laugh out loud. My friend asked me what was so funny and I didn't have the words for it. I just went, oh... nothing, just a good dose of bakelite...
Thoroughly, good! Thanks for joining to hang w/ us! And, welcome to MJs, Joe! Dion

maybe a telemovie... &mdash 04/13/08 - 11:07:22 PM
I'm having a great time hearing all the things people are getting out of this track so I am glad you got buzzed by the bakelite monster. I did forget to credit the Daleks for inspiring the sound effects and i must confess, a lot of the lyric lines were taken directly off TV which i had on in the background as I was writing. My partner was channel surfing and a contestant on a quiz show is saying "What is going through my head right now?" That kind of thing and it all fell into place.
I did clean up the train wreck a bit - the original ending was a very funny drum sample mashup but maybe on the next one!
Thanks Dion and glad to be here. [ Reply to This ]
... &mdash 04/13/08 - 01:57:38 AM
lyrics seem pretty good. production sounds fine. part of it reminds me of bats coming out of a cave that was pretty cool. the vocals almost have a country feel but with the instrumentation it turns into a nice rock tune. [ Reply to This ]
the bats are definitely out on this one &mdash 04/13/08 - 11:20:27 PM
and it was much more countryish until i changed the drum track to the on-beat instead. Then everything started to go weird the way i like it ha. Glad you enjoyed it mate [ Reply to This ]
POP! &mdash 04/13/08 - 02:02:10 AM
Sorta song that makes you wanna jump round the house- truely bouncy. The lyric and the guitar give it an XTC, quirky kinda feel. Great mix, really nice licks and a tune thats surgically implanted in my head.
Welcome! [ Reply to This ]
hey thanks &mdash 04/13/08 - 11:26:52 PM
that was exactly the effect i was hopin the song would have - XTC have always been a huge inspiration and i love those quirky hooks that you cant get out of your brain. This is pop as the man once said. [ Reply to This ]
Catchy tune &mdash 04/13/08 - 03:15:28 AM
coupled with great lyrics, tight playing and high production values make this a winner. Love all the extra little 'noises' too!
I look forward to your future posts.
Peter [ Reply to This ]
Not sure about the production values &mdash 04/13/08 - 11:33:52 PM
- I'm happy that people are hearing the song ok but i find it hard to be objective and mix at the same time. Talk about multi-tasking! The little noises come from too much Sci-Fi (especially the Doctor)and the lyrics are about growing up and going wrong. Something we can all relate to here i think. Thanks for the comments mate [ Reply to This ]
Nice first post &mdash 04/13/08 - 05:37:08 AM
Kinda like this sort of Rock.
The mixing is top in my ears.

mixing is top? &mdash 04/13/08 - 11:38:45 PM
thanks for the kind words - did you mean the mix is too toppy? Or you like it? I do make my mixes more bright as a rule - i do 99% in the headphones (my monitors are not great) so a lot of the time it sounds a bit more trebly and sharp and could use some cutting down [ Reply to This ]

For not letting me miss this. What is it with all you Aussies with all the catchy tunes and great production? Then you toss in some witty lyrics and cool bg vocals while making it all sound effortless.
Love the song and really looking forward to hearing your future offerings!

Hey Adam big thanks &mdash 04/14/08 - 01:16:45 AM
Not sure about effortless - lots of animals were harmed in the making of that song - especially my dog who i caught staring out the window, growling, paws over his ears during one long night's drawn out vocal session.
I'm looking forward to getting more involved here. And also to working my way through the mountain of songs everyone has uploaded - lots of great stuff. [ Reply to This ]
cool tune... &mdash 04/13/08 - 09:42:07 AM
...I used to sell bakelite...the well heeled folks turned their noses up to anything that wasn't from the good ol' days of toxic poison death for the makers...
Very imaginative playing and the production's very good. Agree with bud: Nick Lowe/Kevin Ayers are definite songwriting influences...but you've made your own style...welcome to MJ... [ Reply to This ]

Some may hear... &mdash 04/13/08 - 02:34:07 PM
...Nick Lowe or Kevin Ayers... and I hear this weird outtake from the secret psychedelic album put out by Clarence White, Skip Spence and maybe John Cale...
Clarence on lead vocals...
Very enjoyable. I'm playing along on Telecaster while listening... Honestly, I don't exactly know what it's about, but it FEELS great.
Gotta love those boingy sounds at the end. Making boingy sounds with guitars and effects is one of life's great joys.
Welcome to MacJams, too, while I'm at it. Any friend of Neal's...
(And look at who's already fav'ing your song... Not such bad company, either...)

hmmmmm serious names &mdash 04/14/08 - 01:49:47 AM
being bandied about here - have you been going through my record collection?? ha! I would have gladly swapped an arm or a leg (preferably from one of the other band members) to have been anywhere near Clarence or at a Moby Grape gig - or to hear John Cale write and rehearse "I Keep A Close Watch" - sighhhh! I love my influences and I've had a ball making music and I have to thank Neil for prodding and pushing me onto the stage here. Now try and get me off... !
Great meeting you and all these fascinating people on here - it's a wonderful weird world indeed [ Reply to This ]
Great stuff &mdash 04/13/08 - 02:41:25 PM
Very cool song, and excellent performance. I love the lyrics - some excellent lines in there. The guitars are spot on, and the vocals are very nice. You have a warm voice that I feel I could listen to for a long time. Love the interesting sounds that kick in around the 2:00 mark. Very cool. Neil pointed me in this direction, and I'm happy he did. A man of discerning taste, he is for sure. Nicely done. Welcome to MacJams! Peace. [ Reply to This ]
I think i am in great company here &mdash 04/14/08 - 02:14:37 AM
and i'm flattered at the things people are saying. It's great to see people from all different styles and schools mixing it up and i'm hoping to being part of that. I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to sample everybody's work at once but i just got Find Yourself and loved it. Nice meeting you - joe [ Reply to This ]

was what Neil said... He is always talking down his competition! LOL...
Welcome Joe. You really got a fine tune here... very fine, I must say. I can only add another voice in the chorus of "amens" to what has been said already. Nice to have another seasoned rocker here at MJ.
I'm looking forward to more, and maybe even a reunion collab between you and that renegade bass player, Neil.

well-done and pickled to follow! Been sampling stuff (songs that is) at random and I was just listening to (and enjoying) Half Over Now. Great hook there.

Sorry about the delay Joe, I've just returned from staying with Neil & Jan this weekend, where I had the opportunity to listen to your first submission to this site!
"Is it writer's cough, I can't shake it off"- LOL! bloody brilliant! The chorus is catchy, and the 'extra FX' work a treat...
Anyway, I look forward to hearing more of your work...
...and welcome to MacJams!
