Description:
This song started life as a 'blues' believe it or not and was played on guitar (well the chords were LOL). Then as I went through suitable drum beats, I happened across this one and so I saved it with this beat and began another with the blues version (coming at a later date). On this one I swapped the guitar and went keyboard; searched for suitable instruments while all the time, it was on TV about princess Diana's Inquest at the other end of the room. So it's no wonder that this took a poignant turn. When
Diana died, I was already in the middle of a very dark period in my life, due to a back that was in constant spasm and pain. Then her death really affected me deeply for some reason and I remember writing a poem dedicated to her. As I wrote this song with the accompanying newsreel about her, it brought a lot of those feelings back to me.
The sadness of lost love sings out in this melody and that's why I named it' Lost Love's Lament'. It's about Loves twists and turns throughout life, one minute up, next minute down; then we feel great until it kicks us in the teeth. it's like a snake that weaves and squirms it's way through our lives.... now you see it ... now you don't.
I chose the Boldt Violin as the main instrument because of the emotional drama it can add with it's vibrato, which may not be to everyone's taste, but I tried all the other violins and they sounded like a fork scratching on a plate in comparison..... and I think it sounds perfect for this emotional song. I can almost see a Rumanian Gypsy playing this with his shoulder length hair and flashing eyes. In fact I used to have an old LP of Gypsy music that had a similar sounding violin lead with lots of vibrato for drama and emotion. Last night I wrote this Poem about the many facets of Love so here it is then.... hope you like it. Didn't know which genre really, but I suppose Ballet, would be a good one for this.
Love Is
Love’s the force that won’t relent; it gave us all our lives,
Hurts us, yet we don’t resent it, when it blinds our eyes.
Keeps us warm, yet leaves us cold,
Keeps us young when we grow old.
Soothes us when we have the need,
Yet cuts the heart until it bleeds.
Love leads us through its merry dance, sensuous, loving, warm,
Makes the heart beat faster sometimes, yet can make us calm,
Makes us happy, makes us sad,
Treats us good and treats us bad,
Makes us healthy, makes us ill,
Yet we crave it; always will.
Love twists and turns its tortuous way and leaves us in deep pain,
When it seems we’ve lost our way, it lifts us once again.
We can’t avoid it come what may,
It’s in our lives and here to stay,
Love is part of everyone,
It lives with us and when we’ve gone,
The love we gave will carry on,
In loving memory.
Maurice Vizard 8/4/2008
This below was the Poem I wrote for Diana.
'They Say…,And Yes, It’s True (In respect of Princess Diana)
They say a sea of tears were wept,
A million flowers also swept to follow her,
So great a Nations grief,
They say her love, it knew no bounds,
Compassion too, which many found
Remembered, in their grief.
They say she touched, not just the few,
But many people, leaders too,
Yes, they all said her heart was true,
And paid respect, as was her due,
They say we never will forget,
And this, I feel is true.
They say a thousand Angels sang, in
Welcoming her home again,
They say that all of Heaven too,
Had come to gather in her name,
And all of this I can believe,
Through tears…., I know it’s true.

Ballet.... &mdash 04/09/08 - 01:37:50 PM
Perhaps a Pas de Deux...
Very mournful music, Maurice, and beautifully realized with your Romanian violin. Your descriptive notes really put this piece into perspective. There is always a sincerity to your music that comes through clearly. It is so nice to hear calming, meditative music in a world of such chaos.
Peace.

Very well arranged. The emotional mood carries well throughout. You are really getting your money's worth out of those GB instruments :) Great performance!

Nice that you liked the arrangement and the song, sad though it is. I keep having a bash with those instruments , but the violin was the freeby from Boldt, cheers M [ Reply to This ]

Nice gypsy violin Maurice &mdash 04/09/08 - 06:35:46 PM
Very sad and mournful - I can see a ballet too. Diana's life and death is a sitter for a ballet I would have thought - or a children's fairytale - or both.
You've done really well with the violin (although the constant vibrato could have maybe been reduced a bit) and the other sounds. The drums in particular are at the same time very interesting but subtle.
I really enjoyed listening to this Maurice - fine job my friend.

Thanks Neil... &mdash 04/10/08 - 04:47:21 AM
for the listen and nice comment, which is greatly appreciated. The excess vibrato I did try to calm, at another's suggestion, but it seems to be built into that particular Violin and it wouldn't respond; the alternative being the fork on a plate LOL, so it was no contest, regards M [ Reply to This ]

I do, I do,...you've seen right through me. Actually I remembered that my Great Grandmother was an Irish Gypsy, which I discovered a few years ago as I was tracing my genealogy. Anyway, I digress...... I'm pleased that my sadness pleases you LOLOL (in a nice way of course), you say the sweetest things LOL. I have an Aunt who would have described this song as "Music to jump off a cliff to", and I think that's a good description too LOL, all the best, M [ Reply to This ]
right then Maurice &mdash 04/10/08 - 10:15:19 AM
great choice of the Boldt Violin i think. lyrics are touchingly poignant. is amazing how some works evolve and am grateful for your in depth back story here ... adds so much to a wonderful listen. Class Act ... you are indeed! [ Reply to This ]
Yes Jack &mdash 04/10/08 - 11:25:39 AM
this really did 'evolve' and I'm pleased it went the way it did, adding a new string to my bow LOL (I only got the pun myself after I'd started writing this) and I'm glad you agree about the Boldt violin, for me it sounds the most natural (but who am I ? ). I'm pleased too that you read and enjoyed the words. Thanks Jack for always being so supportive; you're quite a class act yourself, cheers M [ Reply to This ]

Very cool, Maurice &mdash 04/13/08 - 04:00:51 PM
I think this works very well with the orchestration. I'm sure it would also be interesting using another instrumental approach like guitar, but I would be surprised it it could be better than this. The melody is sad and almost tragic, and the violin works well, I think - expressing the emotion nicely. Very impressive arrangement and terrific production. Nicely done, my friend. You have quite the range! Peace. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks David... &mdash 04/13/08 - 05:10:10 PM
glad you liked this. I agree that a guitar could be nice on this, but I'm not proficient enough to do that.. I'll leave it to someone else. Pleased that you dropped in to listen, cheers M [ Reply to This ]

I didn't expect any more comments on this, so thanks for the nice comment and really pleased you liked it. The Bell was done on my midi from GB's 'tuned percussion' called Tubular Bells. I think it came with the Jampack Symphony that I bought. Cheers M [ Reply to This ]
Your music definitely implies &mdash 08/10/08 - 06:51:45 PM
loss that is almost uncomprehendingly tragic. After the fact, we wish we could back and prevent things, but of course, there is nothing that can be done. If a gypsy violinist was playing this for me, I'd be crying in my goulash. I am not meaning to make light of the emotion.
Forgive me. I began to think about the violin played by the blind hermit in the black and white Frankenstein movie. It made the "monster" cry. [ Reply to This ]
I Know &mdash 08/11/08 - 04:35:42 AM
what you mean Char. I have an old LP of Gypsy violin music somewhere, that I bought in my twenties and that too used to have me choked. It's a very emotional kind of instrument and way of playing. Thanks for listening and I'm glad you enjoyed it, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Passionate and very moving work Moviz. &mdash 09/01/08 - 09:33:11 PM
Tragedy affects us deeply and from it can come heartfelt art. It does here.
