Live Blues (1)
Description:
Here we have a really naked recording....totally live, one take, the second bit of jamming we did on April 3rd. This was the warm up before the real work of learning new material and telling stories has begun. Our rehearsals are more Jam sessions...after we learn a song we explore a lot of different ways to play it...we really have a great time...on this day, I had bought a few new pedals and was giving them a spin....I broke a vein in my right index finger while playing this...hence the title. The next song on the cd will be entitled The Ice Bag.

but this is us live, no click tracks here, no overdubs, no punchins....just 3 guys having fun and blowing off life's miseries..

enjoy!!! or not, if that is your choice

peace all

Great sound, great playing &mdash 04/10/08 - 12:04:21 AM
Positively smokin', as per usual. There's a break in this song that is so nasty that you should go see your priest as soon as possible, or else I fear for your immortal soul.

You are a killer guitar player, Zeets - of that there is no doubt. Your rhythm section is holding their own, as well.

Thanks for the choice - I enjoyed!
Great work out - guitar, drums and bass what else do you need? Sounds like one of those jams where the hard disk runs out of room before you're ready to stop!

thanks mark!! &mdash 04/10/08 - 10:44:56 PM
coming from you...that is quite wonderful....you know, I haven't played in a power trio since my younger days comfortably. The last band I had with scott, was the same as this, power trio plus front singer/harpguy...but i never really felt comfy there....but nowadays, these trio sessions feel so good...we rehearse at least once a week sometimes twice, plus we have played enough onstage now to really feel confident in one another.

bryan is just the nicest bass player, and since he bought BooBoo, the squire fretless, he has blossomed as a player so much. The fretless gives endless sustain it seems, so the band stays fat, even if bryan plays the simplest of lines...it just is great to hear him get that instrument together.

i listen back to hours of these rehearsal jams and marvel at the drummer I got to play with me. Fran Bishop just cooks...i cant say enough for his creativity, and now that the band is tight and well practiced, our time is better and better...we tended to speed up or slow down alot when we first got to playing together...but it wasnt a simple matter of the drummer's time...we all felt time differently and it caused us as a band to fluctuate. We work on that alot...and Fran's developing style within the band is key. he is getting stronger within the band, and we all can feed off his confident playing. He is just so good. When he lays into a groove with confidence, it is sheer beauty.

I love these two with all my heart....

we began recording Scott's material today and should have some things to hear soon!

thanks again mark, for all the continuing support.

Bloody Well Done &mdash 04/10/08 - 11:44:47 PM
I've heard of *finger-popping* music, but this is ridiculous! What actually caused the vein to pop?

Rockin' and fluent (perhaps too much so in your particular case... lol).

The band seems to be growing together quite nicely. This jam has a solid feel of a unit to it, creating a synergy that gives it even more power. This, despite the fact that the bass part is somewhat timid and subdued in this mix.

Lots of nice licks in here... at least one apparently dangerous to your health. ;)

j a.... &mdash 04/11/08 - 05:45:38 AM
i think it was the bending of the lower strings...we were playing pretty hard...

but, a few minutes of ice and i was good....now if the vein had been in my head, then it would be a problem...

Bryan edits his playing to the trio format...and on this style of shuffle, the simple repeating pattern instead of a walking baseline, he seems to concentrate on subltle changes from chorus to chorus, with a slow build in intensity. Pretty nice cushion to improvise over...

thanks for stopping by and the thoughtful comments!

you know yourself, as a blues player, or improviser of any sort really, that when you are on, you dont think in terms of, "ok now some of this, now some of that"...it is this weird ability to be able to hear what you want to play a microsecond before you actually play it...and when you you are really in the zone you know where you are going and can get further and further ahead of yourself....you know EXACTLY what comes next....i actually live for those moments, and they happen soooo rarely.

Always enjoy your blues playing very much, B!

Thanks for the kindness

Great stuff &mdash 04/11/08 - 01:09:00 PM
Lovely playing, and the fact it's all one take is inspiring. A terrific demonstration of musicianship and - perhaps more to the point - a great, grooving track that sounds like a lot of fun was had in its creation. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Great blues shuffle, Love the tone, nice vintage sound. Like the licks at the breaks. The wah sounds good. Always some great blues guitar here. You can tell you have honed your technique over the years of giging. Look forward to more!

Wow! You are really cooking here, Stevie Ray Ziti! Love it, and would love to hear you play live. It's all really good, but there are parts where you are going completely nuts, and those are my favorite moments!
